18.01.2022 Chest Lift - the wrong way, followed by the right way. Chest lift appears to be just a sit up, however mistakes are common and one particular error in technique is the movement of the hips and pelvis. Note with the first 3 chest lifts the curling of my hips. This prevents the deepest core muscles, pelvic floor and transverse (TA) being strongly engaged. ... With your hips and pelvis in neutral alignment (not imprint as the legs are on the floor), imagine they are cemented into the floor and cannot move. All you are able to do is lift the chest to get the scapular/shoulder blades off the floor. Think of your ribs, closing down towards your hips, not the hips curling up towards to the ribs. This ensures we are using deep abdominal muscles not just the superficial ones, and will increase strength much faster. With every lift, also draw the naval into the spine so the lower belly flattens rather than domes. The flattening of the stomach toward the floor will deepen the connection to TA.
