20.01.2022 SLOW DOWN AND BUCKLE UP. Drivers are being urged to take care on NSW roads, after the number of people dying while not wearing a seatbelt or speeding doubled compared to the same time last year. Between March and July, 65 people died in speed related crashes on NSW roads, up from 27% of all fatalities during the same period last year to 54%, and 17 people died while not wearing an available seatbelt, up from 9% of vehicle occupant fatalities to 22%. Minister for Transport an...d Roads Andrew Constance said :Too many people are dying on roads close to home during this health crisis. Nearly 70% of those who died when they weren’t wearing a seatbelt crashed on a road in their local area, These aren’t just figures, they are people. People who are missed by their families, their friends, their colleagues and their communities simply because someone decided to speed or didn’t think it was important to put on a seatbelt. Transport for NSW Deputy Secretary for Safety, Environment and Regulation Tara McCarthy said that men in particular were featuring prominently in the statistics. Of the 65 people who’ve died in speed related crashes, 48 were men, and of the 17 driver and passenger fatalities not wearing an available seatbelt 13 were male. While speeding and seatbelt related deaths were up, fatigue related fatalities were down from 15% to 8%, and alcohol related crash deaths remained steady at 13%.

17.01.2022 One upside of 2020, if there's such thing, is that we've become more aware of the germs surrounding our day to day lives. Optimistically speaking, it's safe to assume that most of us have picked up new cleaning or hygiene habits this year. But if there's one area that we typically overlook, it's our cars. A recent study conducted by Compare the Market discovered the top five dirtiest parts of a car's interiorand let's just say that if you're the type who constantly eats in y...our carit might make you reconsider. Compare the Market is an automotive insurance comparison website based in the United Kingdom, and its study involved testing ten different vehicles using high-end surface test swabs and computing systems to determine Relative Light Units (RLU). An RLU reading is then compared to the amount of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) collected during the swab. Basically, the dirtier the test area, the larger the ATP amount, producing a higher RLU reading. A high RLU reading means gross, dirty, germy, cringing levels of disgust. The ten vehicles used in the study ranged from family cars and luxury vehicles to work vans. Each one was swabbed in the following places: shifter, indicator stalks, steering wheel, driver seatbelt and seat, interior door handle, windshield, stereo/touchscreen, and rearview mirror. The study also swabbed a toilet seat at an office building to have a comparison in bacteria levels. According to the results, the dirtiest area of a car is the stereo with total RLU reading that was 371 percent dirtier than an office toilet seat. In second place was the shifter, racking up an RLU reading 331 percent higher than the porcelain throne. That is gross, but not surprising considering how many objects we grab, touch, and scratch before reaching for the stereo volume knob or touchscreen. In third place were the indicators stalks, and fourth and fifth the steering wheel and handbrake. Just so you know Len Hollis disinfects customers cars before and after the repair - but after that it's up to you to bust out the Glen 20! See more

15.01.2022 Pooch protection. Pets can be unpredictable in a moving car, and they can cause accidents when they get loose in the car. As you would imagine, you’d be swerving and driving erratically. It’s driving under the influence of a cute pooch. Don’t take your hands off the wheel. ... Don’t allow a pet to ride with its head out of the window. Everybody loves seeing a dog with the wind blowing in its hair, panting contentedly. Consider this: any obstacle close to the vehicle could strike your dog in such a way to injure or kill it, even if you get too close to a tree branch. On the less-deadly-but-still-may-require-a-vet-visit side, dirt, bugs, and dust could lodge itself in your pet’s ears, nose, eyes and throat. If your dog thinks he’s Evel Knievel, he might even try to jump out of the car; then all hell breaks loose. These tips will help pet owners create better restraint options for their pups: 1. Harness: A chest-style harness in the back seat is a great way to keep medium to large dogs in place during long and short trips. Check the manual for the pet harness to ensure you’re running the seat belts through the appropriate loops. Clip the harness to a restraint tether into the seat belt buckle or child-seat anchor for comfort. 2. Crates and carriers: Use seat belts to secure smaller dogs in portable pet carriers in the second or third row of your vehicle. Smaller carriers can also be placed on the floor between the front and second row to limit movement. Medium and large pets can ride in a sturdier kennel secured to the vehicle cargo area in SUVs or trucks, fastened to the vehicle as securely as possible. 3. Cargo area dividers: If you’re driving a large SUV, consider installing a divider behind the last row of an SUV. This is a great way to keep large dogs out your way while driving; just remember that also securing them with a harness is a smart idea.

12.01.2022 The Mercedes-Benz S Class has always been the show pony for new automotive technologies. Back in 1957 it was the first car designed with crumple zones - a technology patented by a Benz engineer. In 1981 anti-lock brakes were a huge leap forward. Even the smart key was an S-Class first in 1988. In 1995 it showcased its electronic stability programme (ESP) to help mitigate skidding and it was the first to feature distronic cruise control in 1998 The next S-class is the first c...ar worldwide to be equipped with airbags for rear-seat passengers to protect them in the event of a frontal impact. It calls for an entirely different concept to that of front airbags. When deploying, for instance, the airbags must be able to adapt to child seats. Combined with a Belt Bag, an inflatable safety belt, the S-Class is continues to set new benchmarks in safety - shame not many of us can afford one! See more

11.01.2022 If you have lusted after a Ducatti motorbike but cant justify one how about a folding bike? The folding e-bike line, born from the partnership between Ducati and MT Distribution, is designed for those who want to move around the city without compromising on style and comfort and is made up of three models: Urban-E, under the Ducati brand, and SCR -E an...d SCR-E Sport, dedicated to the Ducati Scrambler world. 11.01.2022 Check this amazing concept car out the 1948 Norman Timbs Special. One of the more elegant, streamlined and swooping custom cars ever created was this Norman Timbs Special a project that would take over three years to complete. Timbs was an automotive engineer who had worked with Preston Tucker on the Tucker Automobiles. Later, he built several Indy Racing Specials. The car stood 47 inches high, from floor to the top of the windshield. It had a 117-inch wheelbase and measured nearly 18 feet (5.48m) in length.

10.01.2022 The Rolls Royce Ghost is no automotive midget and yet apparently not big enough for some. Accordingly, the luxury car maker has launched a longer wheelbase Ghost essentially turning the rear into a lavish living room on wheels. The company proudly noted it allocated a spectacular amount of resources to developing the perfect in-car champagne cooler. Nestled between the rear seats, it has two operating modes: it chills non-vintage champagne to precisely 6 degrees Celsius, and vintage champagne to exactly 11 degrees. Rear-seat passengers can sit back, sip Dom Pérignon Rosé and enjoy more legroom than many people have in their living room.

06.01.2022 A Million Dollar Monaro that was up for auction may be deemed a national treasure In a last minute development Lloyds Auctions received contact from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications to state that the rare Monaro could be an Australian Protected Object. Aimed towards preserving and keeping history within Australia, Mr Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions commended the governments stance in protecting A...ustralian motoring history for the future of Australian enthusiasts. We have been recommending general motors buys this car and donates it to an Australian Museum as a parting gift for them leaving the country. Its the very first factory-built race car to bear a Holden badge and is credited with launching the Holden Dealer Teams racing dominance in the 70s and 80s, cementing the Holden vs. Ford rivalry that still divides the nation today. The car is a significant piece of Australian motorsport history, not only shaping the success of Holden as a company, but also setting the stage for the domination by Holden and Peter Brock for the following two decades. This particular HT Monaro is the first Holden prepared by motorsport legend Harry Firth, which debuted at the 1969 Sandown 300, but a fiery crash at the 45-minute mark ended the race prematurely. Findings from the crash were used to homologate changes for other HDT Monaros which led to Colin Bond and Tony Roberts claiming victory at Bathurst the same year, with Des West and rookie Peter Brock finishing third. Thus the legendary success of Holdens Dealer Team was launched, and Holdens ongoing rivalry with Ford cemented. In the end it didnt reach a million at yesterdays auctions. Bids for the Monaro closed at $715,000. Lloyds Auctions said it was the highest price for a road registerable Australian Holden ever sold at auction. Chief operations officer Lee Hames said there were seven bidders, which came down to two enthusiasts who fought it out, both with the intention to keep the car in Australia. The winning bidder wished to remain anonymous. See more

05.01.2022 There had not been such a pontifical vehicle until 1980: Instead of being chauffeured around in the usual black, representative limousine, John Paul II used a nacre white Mercedes-Benz 230 G with golden details for the first time during his visit to Germany forty years ago. The rear of this special G model features a bench for the Holy Father, which was installed on a continuous floor panel that was raised by 40 centimetres and protected by a high, transparent dome made of ar...tificial glass. Consequently, the Pope remained easily visible for the, on some occasions, several hundred thousand people attending the events, both when he was sitting down and standing up. Various lights were integrated into the sides, floor and roof of the superstructure, which were used to provide direct as well as indirect lighting and made sure the Roman Pontiff also remained well visible even in the dark. To celebrate its 40th anniversary the Popemobile is on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany.

03.01.2022 How stunning is this? Intrigued by the idea of what a race car from the early 1940s could have looked like were it to feature an electric powertrain, designer Alexander Imnadze Baldini created a special concept which he dubs the Helvezzia Tipo-6. The vehicle has been designed as a racer, albeit one that could also be used on the streets. It has a shape similar to classic race cars from the period and, despite the electric powertrain, sports a large chrome grille up front. Being a race car, the Helvezzia Tipo-6 has just a single seat.
