25.01.2022 Last week the large hole was posted here now the large sandstone blocks photographed have been wrapped in plastic. This appears to be "salvaged" from a rather significant looking archaeological find on Church Street - that public interest needs to know about, and why this heritage item is not informing an honest redesign of the infrastructure layout plans for cultural presentation and interpretation. Notice the large Shale block and convict-shaped blocks.

13.01.2022 The latest chapter in the fight to save Willow Grove from demolition WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY. In 1988 the air rights from Willow Grove were transfered to th...e neighbouring site in exchange for substantial extra floor space on the new GE building. This resulted in restrictions on the title protecting Willow Grove & the garden forecourt from development - OR SO IT SEEMED. "There were three owners during the time that the restriction was placed on Willow Grove and all three accepted the requirement to protect the heritage building and garden forecourt," Cr Davis said. "If the state government had intended on saving Willow Grove from demolition, they would never have required the removal of the restriction from the title prior to sale." 05.01.2022 FIGHTING FOR WHAT REALLY MATTERS A must-read in the SMH News-Review today, Elizabeth Farrelly writes: 'Heritage, as a soft, embedded value, is entwined with pla...ce. Like women, it is networked. The government wants to shift this building [#WillowGrove] out of the way and reconstruct it next to the old jail. With all respect, that’s so male. It’s expensive, object-driven problem-solving behaviour. Dharug elder Aunty Julie Jones calls it profoundly disrespectful': https://bit.ly/30PwVxI In the meantime, as the CFMEU confirms their Green Ban, radio star, Ben Fordham blasts local MP and a Minister in the Berejiklian government over its ‘ludicrous’ plan to 'move' Willow Grove, calling the latest announcement 'nuts:. The interview on 2GB yesterday morning can be heard here: https://bit.ly/3nAKF9e Fordham's comments follow the release of the Response to Submissions Report, with the government now proposing to 'move' the much loved Italiante Villa to another site, to make way for the Powerhouse Parramatta https://bit.ly/2zPNwHj The plans have been condemned by heritage experts and the local community alike, with National Trust of Australia's Conservation Director David Burdon in his letter to the SMH Editor today, writing: 'It is true that some earlier structures including two churches have been moved from Parramatta to new locations in the past, but these were solid sandstone buildings able to be moved stone by stone. Perhaps those advocating this idea are forgetting that Willow Grove is a cement-rendered brick structure with plaster ceilings that cannot be moved without catastrophic damage any "relocated" building would simply be a bad replica with the original iron veranda tacked on to add a veneer of authenticity. One would have thought that it is much easier to move the building that is still on the drawing board rather than the one that is already built'. https://bit.ly/3jLnkiR The CFMEU in their Media Release write: 'The 'plan' to move Willow Grove is nonsensical and will result in the loss of the building's heritage value. Willow Grove is over 150 years old, made of 150-year-old bricks and 150-year-old timbers. The dismantling of the building will inevitably result in the destruction of much if not all of the original materials. What will be rebuilt on a completely different location will not be Willow Grove - it will be a copy. And given the low-ball figures we've heard bandied about on the cost of the project, it will be a poor copy at that.' To view the full Media Release: https://bit.ly/3jJMDSo
