09.01.2022 It's REALLY important for cats to be given optimum litter tray facilities. Failure to do so can result in problems such as house soiling, conflict in multi-cat households and even stress-related health problems such as FIC (feline idiopathic cystitis) So what do we need to consider? SIZE - Bigger is better! Many litter trays sold in the shops are too small for your average kitty. The ideal size is 1.5 times they length of cat from its nose to the base of its tail - that...'s pretty big! NUMBER - The ratio of trays should be one per cat plus one spare. This is because cats like to have the option of using a clean tray if one is dirty (or urinate in one tray and defecate in another) Providing the correct number of trays also means a different tray can be used if access to one is blocked LOCATION - Litter trays should be located in quiet areas with easy access. Thoroughfares and busy areas are best avoided. Litter trays should not be lined up next to each other as cats just see this as one giant tray. Other cats may also block access to the trays if they are all located in the same area LITTER CHOICE - Each cat will have its own preference, but most cats like soft, fine litter (remember the cat's ancestry lies with the African wildcat, so they prefer soft, sandy substrates) Clumping litter is easier to clean out and scented litter and tray liners are best avoided COVERED OR UNCOVERED - Each cat had its own preference, but if covered trays are to be used the flap should be removed and the tray checked regularly. It's really easy to forget about cleaning out a tray if you can't see or smell it! CLEANING - Litter trays should be scooped out twice a day and fully cleaned out each week . Use soap and hot water to clean litter trays and avoid strong smelling products which can unpleasant for cats. NB: older cats may favour shallow or modified trays for easy access

07.01.2022 My kitty cats if they could threaten me lol

06.01.2022 Mr Thor suffers from feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) which is brought on by stress, what does he have to be stressed about though i say he lives like a king but i have worked out its when the girls are in season and they harass him. I have found a combination of Feliway spray and the diffusers through the house help! Stress and anxiety can affect your cat in similar ways that it can affect us humans. Anxiety can be due to a number of things such as: >A new pet or person in ...the family >Multi-cat households >Separation anxiety from owners >Travelling or moving >Building or renovation work >Boarding in unknown location such as a cattery >Vet visits >Hectic and/or noisy events (Christmas, fireworks, thunderstorms, parties) >Change in routine (pet sitters, new job, visitors) It is important to ensure you give your buddy time to adapt to changes and keep an eye out for any behaviour that may be telling you that your fur-baby is suffering from anxiety. Scratching Scratching is a normal part of cat behaviour as it helps your buddy relieve stress, keep their nails healthy and also assists in marking of territory. Providing a good scratching post and training your cat to use it will generally prevent your buddy from destroying other items in the house. If you do notice your buddy beginning to mark furniture or other household items, it may be a sign that they are stressed or anxious. It is important to act on this behaviour and recognise your buddy may doing this as a cry for help. A Feliway diffuser can be useful to help calm your buddy while you address any issues that are causing him or her stress. If you are still concerned about your cats behaviour, a vet check up is always a good idea as there may be an underlying medical condition that your pet is trying to tell you about. How does Feliway Help? Feliway is available in a diffuser and a spray. It replicates the feline facial pheromone that cats naturally use to mark their environment as familiar and safe.
