17.01.2022 Between A Croc and a Hard Place Life in the Gulf is not for the faint hearted. Where there are barra you will find the largest reptile on earth, the super stealth hunter, the saltwater crocodile. What chance do you have against a prehistoric creature that can travel large stretches of sea and hundreds of kilometres of inland rivers, weighs 200-300 kgs, grows 3-5 metres, can swim underwater for long periods holding its breath, slowing its heart rate and seeing through transpar...ent eyelids before approaching underwater and slamming their gnarly jaws on their ambushed prey. Not even the canny barramundi is safe. 12.01.2022 Tinder for Brolgas Now, as the breeding grounds continue to dry out in the Carpentaria region the dancing brolgas concentrate into non-breeding flocks. But all that bird watching can lead to romance as this is where the young birds often meet other young birds and pair up for life.... You can tell a paired couple by their synchronised calling. The female starts with a trumpeting bellow skywards which the male follows with one long call for every two of the females. Nature's love song. #barracentre #karumba #exploretnq #holidayherethisyear #outbackqueensland #goodtogo #brolgas

10.01.2022 Is that you Barry? Don't forget you can do your bit to support the barramundi restocking process by Adopting a Fingerling. Who knows ... he could grow up to be a one metre, boomer baby barra maker one day.... Here's the link you need to help sustain a better fishing future : https://barracentre.com.au/product-cate/adopt-a-fingerling/ Happy BarraMonday! #barracentre #karumba #exploretnq #holidayherethisyear #outbackqueensland #goodtogo #thisisqueensland #happybarramonday

05.01.2022 Barra and Champagne Did you know there is a petition to ensure only Australian fish can be sold as barramundi? It's because 60 per cent of fish sold as barramundi in Australia is actually imported Asian Seabass, and Aussie fishermen just aren't buying that.... Similar to champagne, which can only be called champagne if its from the Champagne region in France, Aussies want the barramundi to have the same regard for its origin. And so another battle with the mighty barramundi begins. Here is the link to the petition if you are interested. https://www.change.org/p/australian-fish-names-committee-ba Happy BarraMonday! #barracentre #karumba #exploretnq #holidayherethisyear #outbackqueensland #goodtogo
