25.01.2022 New display bike day | 1999 TREK 5500 OCLV USPS 54cm team issue bike. Well its been a while since I have changed my classic bike window display. This is one I have been working on restoring recently. It needs no introduction thats for sure.... The 5500 OCLV (optimum compaction low void) was at the time the lightest road frame on the market (1100g) and one of the first full carbon framesets used in the TdF which I can only assume is why it won 7 Tours consecutively. Complete with Rolf Vector Pro wheelset, Dura Ace 7700 9sp groupset, Cinelli 101 stem & bars, Hutchinson USPS team issue tyres, USPS San Marco Aspide saddle, this is as it was sold out of the catalogue and raced in the TdF by the 1993 World Champion Lance Armstrong & team. This was a real game changer for the bike industry at the time when the rest of the peloton was on steel & aluminium framesets. 23.01.2022 One of my favorite frames all time to ride was the CAAD5 - circa 2001. And this R3000 CAAD5 was a very rare colourway back then. It took me 14yrs to find one in 2015. . As always I rode it then sold it on. Until this year, when I late night eBay purchased this one... without knowing it was my 2015 one I sold that’s how rare they were. .... Anyway Nathan, the local connoisseur of fine classic bicycles insisted it will fit better in his stable then mine. . It's Treks most aerodynamic bike, which makes it an ideal triathlon bike and a great choice for TT! - A big 60cm Team EF Education First Rapha Cannondale SystemSix Aero Bike. We know just how fast these bikes are and Josh Annells will at 5am tomorrow.... We altered this a bit in the front end with specific Easton bar and stem, along with Quarq Powermetre and tubeless road Schwalbe tires wrapped around the Knot64 carbon disc wheels. - The most popular bike this month has been the Cannondale Scalpel Si Carbon 3, XC MTB. 13.01.2022 IMPORTANT! A bit of housekeeping for the ride. Here is a pic of the 2nd Mt Mee 101 in 2013 with 22 riders.... Tomorrow see’s edition No.8 and a hell of a lot more friends. Weather looks like it’s pretty comfortable! Unlike the heat of last few years rides. There will be a wide variety of abilities & fitness levels and all out for a good solid bunch ride, But just a reminder this is NOT Zupps or Cycological today. IDEALLY we should have a group head off 1st at 0630 & 5mins to 10mins later the stronger riders take off which..IS SELF SEADED. Please don’t be a sandbagger otherwise it will turn into a drop fest. Don’t be that rider, in the front group trying to get extra Kudos flexing your power, leave that for the Nundahdome. Wait until Mt Mee climb before releasing your watt-bombs. This will hopefully allow most of the bunch to arrive into Dayboro pretty close together to start the Mt Mee climb & minimize any passing traffic issues on Dayboro Rd. This is not a Scratch race, it’s a safety issue & please use your common sense. IF YOU ARE ON THE FRONT, out to Dayboro, please take it easy on the pace. The quicker you get to Townsend Rd, the longer the wait until we roll off again. Watts2Gain Powered by Cycling Sel will be on the climb somewhere surprising you with some snaps, she also needs to get across to the decent before the bunches. So the faster you ride on over, the less chance of getting a new profile pic for you. We will have limited water at Townsend Rd as the only supported stop. (Further on if need be there is a toilet and water at the Mt Mee lookout on the right hand side if required, usually a coffee van) Usually groups splinter into much smaller bunches, please keep an eye out for anyone needing assistance or in the hurtbox. Then it’s to the bakery at Wamuran for some fuel and rest at your leisure, riders will roll in at different paces. BE CAREFUL ON THAT HIGHWAY SHOULDER!! Back home via the usual route Morayfield/Narangba/Dakabin which I have posted some maps you should save and will be nice cold drinks and fresh water at the shop for you or Cafe nearby if you roll in that way. As a guide these are rough distances. LSC to Dayboro - 18km MT Mee climb (easy 5% avg) - 7.5km Across the top to D’aguilar pub - 28km D’aguilar pub to Wamuran Bakery - 10km Wamuran to LSC - 35km REMEMBER, THIS IS JUST A SHOP RIDE, BUT A VERY POPULAR SHOP RIDE. 12.01.2022 Yesterday we had the inaugural LSC BVRT express. Yarraman to Esk (96km) on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. An eager group of 10 riders set off from the shop at 6am courtesy off the Watts2Gain Powered by Cycling Sel tour van. ... We ran gravelbikes, hardtails and dual suspension 29ers, and took many KOMs and cups along the way for everyone. 12.01.2022 When the boss lady / wife discovers you sold her bike a few months ago, then say's you need to build me a new one..... I best make up for it and make it a good one! Well I did start to put this together in early April and now the whip is cracking to get it finished.... Again, the one bike to do it all. Call it a gravel bike, commuter bike, road bike, path bike, CX bike, these bikes will tick every one of that with ease. Started life as a 2020 Cannondale CAADX frameset, I built it with SRAM Rival 1x groupset, running 40t Cannondale SpideRing & 11/42t cassette, Thomson 0deg post & Fabric Scoop ladies saddle. Also being a wheelbuilder, I better do some bling. Lightweight Stans Crest MK3 ZTR rims with Gold Hope Pro2 evo hubs, once I pulled the hubs out of the box I remembered I had some Gold aero spokes tucked away for the past 10yrs waiting for a build one day. Well this is that day, of all sizes these were the exact length for this build, so got to work and with matching nipples they work well with the Emerald pearl frameset. 11.01.2022 2020 done, How awesome was today for a ride LSC101 done for another year. 142 riders....... I can’t thank everyone enough for coming along, Today again I met so many new faces which was great to see, I also know plenty made the trip northside from far and wide, thank you What a ripper of a day with the weather, what more could we have asked for today I'd say absolutely perfect, seemed to be a tailwind 85% of the day. You know those perfect days we sometimes get on the bike. Hopefully everyone made it back safe n sound I do understand there was a bit of a stack and a few mechanicals & punctures, I tried to drop between as many groups as I could to say g’day. Today was the 5th official LSC101 and 8th or 9th 101 I’ve hosted, every year this ride is bigger and bigger, not sure why it works, but it just does again very greatful. Plenty of helpers today, so thanks so much to my wife Lisa, my little 4.5yo Evie & Sister in Law Renee, my folks helped out and Watts2Gain Powered by Cycling Sel Selina & Tony for always helping out with support, ideas & rider assistance they are always tremendous supporters. Selina not only lent her bike out, picked up some riders back & forth, and was the official photographer today, then cycled back from Wamuran Bakery. Her images will be ready and uploaded in the next few days, so stay tuned. Thanks for the good ride into Dayboro, I don’t think we caused many motorists grief with the split bunches. The time gap worked ace and our 2nd group linked up right on the base of the climb. Here are a few pics I grabbed for now, please tag yourself/friends in them & today’s top 10 hill climb results, I see Leighton took out the decent PB today on the nasty side 3rd consectutive year, uphill honours went to Sean Murray pretty comfortably 18:20. Nice job. I think extra kudos need to go to Young gun Para cyclist Kyle Willis of The Bel Squad, for keeping us honest on the run out to Dayboro even gapping us at stages, always with a smile, plus Chevonne and her 14yo son Sam who on Xmas Eve rode 500km and 200km in one ride then nailed it fresh again today We will add more pics ASAP, Plus some GoPro footage ASAP. 07.01.2022 Today I was lucky enough to wrestle my Cannondale Slice RS TT bike throughout the busiest streets of Brisbane nudging speeds of 80kph in the Tour de Brisbane Brisbane Blast event today. Although a lot of us are still confused at the format whether it was an ITT or Bunch sprint event it definitely is the style of event that tickles my fancy given my longtime ago experience at underground fixed gear alleycat races over the same streets.
