19.01.2022 We'll soon learn the outcome of our 2020 local government election. Regardless of the result, I'll never forget this experience - my first campaign, a campaign almost entirely run on social media in the midst of a global pandemic. A campaign that started with nothing but a fleeting idea and was launched on a whim, but ended with a passion for change and a hunger to keep fighting. I've learnt so much about myself and my local community, and I've met (mostly virtually) the most...Continue reading
17.01.2022 If someone told me five years ago that this year I'd lose an election in the same week Trump battles it out for a second presidential term, I'd be so confused and likely terrified. What a year it’s been. Well done to our incumbent councillors Tim, Lou, Kat, Marcus and Andrew for being re-elected for another term and congratulations to our successful new councillors Heather, Peter, Christina and Rhonda. Dick, I'm sad to see you go. Maddy, you ran a great campaign.... Although we have more female councillors than we did before, we also have fewer progressive councillors and we still have no councillors under the age of 35 representing us. I'm not sure what this means for the future of our council. With everything said and done, I'm feeling disappointed, overwhelmed, proud, relieved, exhausted, thankful and inspired. Over a thousand people voted for me and for that I'm so grateful. I'm sorry we didn't get there this time. I want you to know my fight to advocate for our people and our planet isn't over. It’s just the beginning. I'm delighted to announce my intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2022 Victorian state election. In the meantime, I'll continue highlighting and addressing the issues that matter to our community. I’ll continue to represent and advocate for young women. I’ll keep listening, learning and engaging. Thank you for following my journey so far. I look forward to the next chapter. Now I need a wine or I might even go a little higher up the shelf.
13.01.2022 The first confirmed COVID-19 case in Australia was identified on January 25, here in Victoria, when a man who had returned from Wuhan, China, tested positive for the virus. Since then, a total 20,345 people have tested positive to COVID-19 in our state. On August 11, just a few months ago, we had 7,880 active cases. As I write this in the early hours of the morning on 24 November, almost 10 months to the day since our index case was diagnosed, we have for the first time since the beginning of this global pandemic, NO active COVID-19 cases in our state. Not a single one. Thank you, Dan Andrews. Congratulations, Victoria.
04.01.2022 I've tried to compile as much preliminary scrutineer data as I could. It's a pretty decent sample. It looks like Louise is back in. Probably Dick and Tim as well. There's not a great margin between the rest of us, a few hundred votes or so, but it's safe to say I'm most likely out of the race. Let's see what happens with the rest of the ballots and how preferences flow on Thursday. I'm feeling a mix of emotions, obviously a degree of disappointment, but above all I'm grateful. Thank you to the 353 people I know of so far who dedicated their number one vote to me, you're amazing.
01.01.2022 I’m so glad we have yet another strong female leader elected to represent us as Mayor. Well done, Louise!
