24.01.2022 Ok so weve established that for a lot of people life just does not seem to be fair. AND Your ability to accept and find something positive to focus on will help you cope when life gets tough. I have been sharing with you my coping strategy: Taking back control by ... Identifying what is really troubling me and Accepting that this is what needs attention right NOW in order for me to restore my sense of wellbeing I then: Come up with a plan by 1. Considering all potential ways to deal with the situation. Usually there are a number of actions I can take so 2. I write them all down and then prioritise them 3. Once I have a prioritised plan, I then create my To Do list where I transfer from the initial list what I can action. Then, with the rest on the list I seek help: With anything that I know I dont have the skills for, or I look for emotional support or advice from a friend or family member. The people around you dont know what you need so tell them. 24.01.2022 Did you download my walking tutorial? If not here is the link https://bit.ly/2PfHSHS We are told to take 10 000 steps daily, but do these 10 000 step have any basis for good health? As I have said In my opinion taking BAD steps is detrimental to your health as it is a repetitive movement SO taking 10 000 of them every day will increase your risk of knee, hip and ankle injuries, replacements and pain.... You need to walk correctly or you could be doing yourself more harm than good repetitively until you end up in the queue for a hip or knee replacement. So, watch my walking tutorial here https://bit.ly/2PfHSHS In answer to yesterdays questions: 1. Are 10 000 steps per day unrealistic? That will depend on your lifestyle. If you are working a 9-5 job you will need to allow an hour and a half a day for extra walking. 2. Are they a marketing ploy? A professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School who researches the role of physical activity in promoting health and preventing disease. Says 10 000 steps originated in marketing, not medicine. It was not a scientific study. 3. How far and how long are 10000 steps? Ten thousand steps equate to about eight kilometres, or an hour and 40 minutes walking, depending on your stride length and walking speed. I can tell you that I ran 5km 5 times per week for 8 years and I didnt have the body that I have now. I was overweight and weak. So, as I have said, you have a whole rest of your body that needs attention, but walking is a good place to start. It will get you moving doing something that you know and are confident doing, BUT an intelligent full body workout that is safe is what you ACTUALLY need. Trigger put reminders around you daily to stay focused 3. Stick to the schedule this is critical to you succeeding... STEP 4 : ACCOUNTABILITY FIND SOMEONE THAT WILL HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE. There are a few ways to do this: Tell the world - Post your goal on your social media page. By putting it out there for everyone to know, you will have the support of your network and you won’t want to let them down, so you will show up and take the action. Buddy find someone with a similar goal and hold each other accountable. Group join or create your own accountability group with regular meetings, the objective being to check in on each other. As I’ve said, it requires much less effort to DO nothing, just sit back, make excuses and let life pass you by... WHY DO WE HIDE BEHIND OUR EXCUSES?... As Her Smile client Jennifer said: ‘Nothing in the ten-day challenge is beyond you. It’s just getting you moving. Making time for yourself is hard and making yourself a priority is difficult. The easy way out is to make excuses and put others ahead of yourself.’ Jennifer acknowledged that hiding behind our commitment to others is an easy way out. The hard work comes when you make yourself the priority and choose to put your energy into You. Ok, so then why make the effort to make yourself a priority? 22.01.2022 STEP 5 of the Her Smile’s steps to getting back on track is: Focus on what you CAN do drop the excuses. We are masters at procrastination and love to come up with reasons as to why we CAN’T. The famous ones:... I’m far too busy. I can’t make the time. I’m not feeling well. I need more sleep. We waste so much precious time and energy coming up with excuses and creating roadblocks to sabotage ourselves. I want you to put a STOP to the negative approach and START to think only positively: I will find the time take the Action and allocate time for your goal in your diary I may not be feeling my best but I will work on my goal for 10 minutes and if I really am not well enough, I will stop. I will go to bed earlier and get more sleep so that I am fresh and can work well on my goal. Changing your mindset is everything and we have choices in life. 21.01.2022 This weeks theme is You Are What You Think. Right now, for a lot of people life just does not seem to be fair. I could mention the reasons why but that would be allowing us to focus on the negative and experience has taught me that does not change anything. Your ability to accept and find something positive to focus on will help you cope when life gets tough.... I find sitting and thinking about it and how unfair it all is, just raises my anxiety levels and makes me feel helpless and out of control. What you think about creates your feelings which then flow on to be negative or positive emotions depending on what you are thinking. Make sense? My coping strategy is the moment I identify a negative emotion, I immediately start asking myself what have I been thinking? Sometimes there are a few topics in my head that can be causing the emotion. I address each of them separately and inevitably the main culprit raises its head. By doing this I am: 1. Taking back control by 2. Identifying what is really troubling me and 3. Accepting that this is what needs attention NOW in order for me to stop the anxiety and restore my sense of wellbeing If I dont deal with it immediately the anxiety becomes stronger and stronger and this is what causes dis-ease and illness. So, ladies when you have something troubling you, my advice is to try the three things ive mentioned above. Do what you can, with what youve got, where you are. Theodore Roosevelt. 21.01.2022 Continuing this week’s theme is ‘You are what you Think’, We were discussing how to get back on track with achieving your Personal Goal. Her Smile’s steps to getting back on track:... Schedule your goal into your life. Trigger to remind you daily to stay focused STEP 3: stick to the schedule. Missing a schedule is one thing and making the conscious effort to prioritise it for the next day means that you accept that you were distracted but make a commitment to yourself to get it done the next day. But it's not the fact that you missed one schedule that's the problem. It’s the cumulative impact of never getting back on track. If you miss one workout, you suddenly feel more out of shape than you were before. This is dangerous as you begin to lose your confidence in your ability and so start to miss more schedules. For this reason, it's critical to stick to your schedule, even if it's only in a very small way. If you feel can’t fit in the full 60-minute schedule, plan to do 30 minutes or 15 minutes but do something! These small schedules may feel like you are producing small results but they will eventually add up to something positive, and they will ensure longterm success. 18.01.2022 This weeks theme is You Are What You Wear. When last we spoke we dug deep into your body shape and what to wear to give your natural shape balance. We believe that when dressing your body, you want what you wear to match your personality so that not only do you look balanced, but you are comfortable, happy and that will show in your beautiful Smile! and our mission here at Her Smile Is to Help Every Woman Grow Her Smile xx... This week we want to talk about what colours YOU should be wearing. We believe that when you are intentional with your colour it can totally impact your mood and the way you show up in the world. When you are in the right colours for your skin tone, hair colour and personality you will glow radiantly. So how do you know which colours are best for you? 1. When people compliment you, You look really good today!, make a mental note of what colours you are wearing. 2. The same goes for if people say Are you feeling ok? You arent looking well. Make a mental note of what colours you are wearing. Pay attention to what compliments are coming your way as chances are these colours are good for you. They make you look vibrant. All my life I have received compliments when I am wearing Black or when I am wearing Fuchsia Pink. I know that these are my colours. I am also comfortable in these colours and they make up most of my wardrobe. I know that I have to make a mental note when shopping to try other colours to bring accents to what I wear, as I will always naturally reach for black and pink. A while back I decided that I needed to grow up and explore other colours. So I created a business where the logo colours were yellow, blue and green. I changed the colours in my studio and was forced to wear these colours. My behaviour changed and I became someone else. I knew something was wrong, so I rebranded to Her Smile, and used MY colours in the logo. Now I feel at home in my studio and in my uniform. I watched MY SMILE Grow! Todays Task: Think about what colours make you smile. Make you glow. Make you Radiant. Wear them and see if you receive compliments. If you receive compliments note what colours you are wearing. Our hair was done by @skyescreativehair who was amazing and so lovely to work with and who we loved immediately! 17.01.2022 Continuing this weeks theme, You Are What You Do, We are nothing without our Health and so here at Her Smile we always address this first. We have been discussing the 10 000 steps per day and I was asked Should we be taking 10 000 steps a day? Now, we become less active as we age and develop a sense of entitlement, like we earned this sedentary lifestyle ... WHY? Because we have worked and been active (parented, earned money) all our lives. To give you an idea, Sedentary = 2000 to 2700 steps per day. Some people take less! The problem with the sedentary lifestyle comes the sedentary mindset as we feel that we have earned the priviledge to eat what we like! People feel that if they cant, they are being punished! (every meal should not be a party!) These two together = Pain, Ill Health, and Early Death. 2000 steps are on average, depending on your height, 1.6 km. They will take you 15-25 minutes to execute. Thats what sedentary people do? WOW! Ok, so we need to get a wiggle on! In answer to yesterdays questions: 1. Should we be taking 10 000 steps a day? Well if sedentary people are taking a total of 2000 steps thats going to the bathroom, shower, kitchen, buying groceries, going to work, = 15 25 minutes of total on their feet. We dont just need to know how to stand a walk correctly! As you know here at Her Smile, we believe that you are what you Eat, and we have already discussed in previous posts that it takes 35 days for the skin to replace itself. Are you providing your body with Quality foods in their purest form, rich in the ingredients that it needs, to manufacture what your skin needs to be beautiful?... Are you reaching for and including Fruits, vegetables, meats, seeds, grains and nuts, packed with nutrients that can not only improve your health, but give you the glowing skin you crave? It is important to eat a variety of foods as individual food sources have different nutritional compositions that make them unique. For this reason, you should include as many different foods as possible to cover all your bodys Protein, Carbohydrate, Fat, Vitamins, Minerals, Enzymes and Antioxidants it needs to maintain and promote a healthy digestive system, so that all the essential ingredients for skin health can be absorbed. If you are healthy inside, it will show on the outside. This week we will cover a few more of these essential foods for skin health. Right from a child personal choice is an important part of our personal development, self-esteem and confidence.... In our teens we suddenly discover our independence and that we have choices. We begin to explore this by playing around with different ways of dressing, much to our parents’ dismay. We become aware that what we wear affects how we feel and how people will view us. We get a clearer reflection of our growing self-image. We explore different colour combinations and the success of introducing scarfs and other accessories to our personal style. 12.01.2022 This weeks theme is You Are What You Think. Our plan on how to cope when life seems unfair is developing. I have been sharing with you my coping strategy which is: 1. Taking back control by... 2. Identifying what is really troubling me and 3. Accepting that this is what needs attention right NOW in order for me to restore my sense of wellbeing I then: 4. Come up with a plan by 5. Considering all potential ways to deal with the situation. Usually there are a number of actions I can take so 6. I write them all down and then prioritise them 7. Once I have a prioritised plan, I then create my To Do list where I transfer from the initial list what I can action. Then, with the rest on the list I seek help: 8. With anything that I know I dont have the skills for, or 9. I look for emotional support or advice from a friend or family member. The people around you dont know what you need so tell them. * Dont dwell on the negative emotions. They will sink you and YOU ARE NOT GOING DOWN! * The situation you are in can go two ways, UP or DOWN depending on your attitude. * I make a decision to focus on three positive things that I can do each day to improve my situation and focus on positive thoughts and even fake a smile. The energy you emit has a flow on effect which will influence those around you. So, you have a choice... is it going to be negative or positive? I know it requires a lot of self-discipline to put two feet on the ground when you wake up in the morning, and choose a positive attitude when everything seems helpless, But I am asking you to give this a go. You chose your goal, have you started working on it?... It is very easy to become side-tracked in today’s world and lose sight of the goal. We live in a very distracting world, however we are the masters of our own destiny, so Reassess Refocus Restart! Her Smile’s steps to getting back on track: Schedule 1. Schedule your goal into your life. It always begins with this. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail! Ladies take your page a day diary and schedule in the time. Look at your life and schedule your time to work on your goal in the parts of the day and week that you are wasting time. Do less of the time wasters like watching TV and take more action on the goal. You need a time, a place and a date with your goal in order for it to happen. Trigger You also need a trigger to remind you. If you want to lose weight put a scale in front of the fridge or an image of you when you were looking your best on the pantry door. What we are doing is spending time getting to know ourselves, because the more you know yourself the easier it is going to be to get dressed in the morning and step out feeling fantastic. And ladies dont you deserve that?... You are not being selfish. You are strengthening yourself so that you can be the rock to everyone that leans on you. So, 1. You have listened to compliments received and made a note of the colours that make you radiant. 2. You have established whether you are warm or cool toned. 3. You have tried out different colours from your wardrobe or colours around the house and worked out which ones make you look and feel great and which ones make you look and feel ill. The goal is to wear colours that have a positive affect on you and make you feel more confident. Todays task: 1. Get into your wardrobe and separate your garments into colours that you look good in and colours that you dont. 2. Go through the garments in the latter category and decide which you can and cannot part with. Make a decision. 3. Now with what is left, start to try them on. Play around with different colour combinations. If you have something in your wardrobe that you absolutely love but you have now established that it is the wrong colour for you, you dont have to throw it out. It can be worn as an accent colour. For example - if its a dress or shirt, find a jacket in your colours that complement the dress/shirt and wear it over. This will tone down the colours and they will become a cheeky accent to complete your look, and you will still look radiant and healthy. The objective when dressing is to feel comfortable and alive. As I have said in my opinion taking bad steps is detrimental to your health as it is a repetitive movement so taking 10 000 of them every day will increase your risk of knee, hip and ankle injuries, replacements and pain. You need to walk correctly or you could be doing yourself more harm than good repetitively, until you end up in the queue for a hip or knee replacement as it works its way up. ... We hear all the time that we should be taking 10 000 steps every day. My question to you is Where did these 10 000 steps originate? Apparently in 1964 in the run-up to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics a Japanese company made a device called a Manpo-Kei. A 10 000 steps tracking device. It was a marketing tool... Ok, so are these companies selling these devices just to take our money? I mean 100 million fitness devices that fit on your wrist like a watch were sold across the globe by 2019. DO THESE 10 000 STEP HAVE ANY BASIS FOR GOOD HEALTH? In my opinion taking poorly executed steps is detrimental to your health as it is a repetitive movement. SO, taking 10 000 poor quality steps every day will increase your risk of knee, hip and ankle injuries, replacements and pain. SO! 1. Should we be taking 10 000 steps a day? 2. Are they enough for good health?
