25.01.2022 Surfers Paradise put on a gorgeous golden sunset last night that turned the ocean into a huge vanilla milk shake. It was market night - we always buy the same things - fudge, a strange toy, bird warblers... You can’t beat the happy holiday atmosphere of Surfers. Even though nearby Brisbane is locked down this weekend, there were still crowds of people out enjoying the balmy weather, crazy cars and fluoro-lit beach. You can get your hair braided, fake tattoos or buy light-...up T-shirt’s. Holidaying dogs sport new, sparkly bandannas along the esplanade (Our Sweetums was one of them, as you can see!) . #surfersparadise #surfersparadisebeachfrontmarkets #destinationgoldcoast See more
24.01.2022 Well hello Perisher! This is the Matterhorn Lodge and it is seriously the best-kept secret in Perisher. This is our third stay at the Matterhorn and we love it more each time. Families are made to feel so welcome here - children of all ages can stay, and they love playing in and around the lodge. Its great on the family budget, too! 23.01.2022 Well hello Thredbo! We are so excited to be visiting Thredbo this week! We arrived at our beautiful Thredbo accommodation this afternoon - the Thredbo YHA - to gorgeous sunny skies and those beckoning snowy slopes Tonight we had a wonderful surprise - the flare run was on (where people ski down the mountain in a line holding bright red flares). It looked amazing, and people watching from the opposite chalets cheered and rang cow bells Then there was a fireworks show We... got to watch from prime position - the deck of the Thredbo YHA! This is the second YHA property weve stayed in this year, and Ive got to say they are such a fantastic family accommodation choice - we just love them. Weve settled into our self contained apartment with kitchen, bathroom, lounge and everything we could need. Were super-cosy and all ready to hit the slopes tomorrow- woo-hoo! 22.01.2022 Have you ever visited Cockington Green? #hosted This gorgeous Canberra gem is a stunning English village - in miniature! It even comes complete with its own (human-sized) mini train Wander down perfect pathways lined with colourful blooms and take in the stunning scenery - castles, cottages, mini-cricket matches, Stonehenge...it’s all here, and it’s amazing! I’ve been taking my girls since they were little, and now that they’re teens it’s lost none of its charm. We al...l love it as much as ever Cockington Green is a huge favourite in Canberra - not only with visitors, but also with the locals. Things you can do at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary : You can actually HOLD a koala (it’s legal in Queensland - here you can see us all trying to cuddle Brute the koala at the same time ) They have the amazing WildSkies free flight bird show (where you can see this terrifyingly gorgeous Wedge Tail Eagle ) They run an incre...dible wildlife hospital that you can peep in on - there, they treat many thousands of sick and injured wildlife - including many local Bushfire affected koalas in 2020 They run Segway Safari tours that are SO much fun! You learn all about the animals in the Sanctuary too. (Check out our video on our Letsgomum YouTube channel) They have their very own water park inside to cool off They have The Lost Valley area where you can walk amongst friendly Lemurs & much more! They have a Koala Sanctuary where keepers discovered a brand new Joey in a pouch whilst we were there They have fun high ropes courses for all ages. There are shows, shops, cafes, animal experiences with koalas, crocodiles, owls, dingos Did I mention the absolutely iconic parrot feeding out the front, which you can do mornings & evenings for a gold coin donation? (Here you can see Samantha get her very first parrot on her nectar plate- and me land my first ones since I was five - I nearly cried I was so excited ). The NSW skifields have received a big dump of snow in the last two days - about 20cm - so if you are a skier or snowboarder, and able to in these CORONA-19 times, nows the time to get down there! 19.01.2022 Look at that beautiful view! This was taken from the top of Mount Perisher today Ive been skiing behind my kids today with my mouth open - sometimes in shock, sometimes in fear! Its like a light has suddenly switched on inside of them and they are skiing down huge mountains and handling everything Perisher can throw at them. Today they conquered both Mt Perisher and Mount Blue Cow I had never been all the way up to the top of them before - never mind down them Somet...imes I feel I am just tenuously hanging in there behind my kids Fearless, they are...or just a little bit crazy. Im not sure which. I was very glad to get back to the Matterhorn Lodge this afternoon for some relax-time . 18.01.2022 Lets run away somewhere...even if it is a bit bushfire-scarred! In the midst of COVID-19 chaos, what else could we do but grab the fam, the dog and go for a bush walk! Did you know theres an app that shows you walks, bike rides and runs in your local area - and it works all over the world?! A friend told us about it this week, and we instantly found so many more trails than we thought we knew about in our area! Its called AllTrails and the basic version is FREE! ... As you walk it shows where you are on a real-time trail map so that you dont get lost It even tells you if the trail is dog and kid friendly, how long it is, how easy or difficult - and you can record how far you walk! This is exactly what we need in times like this - because at least we can go for a walk run or bike ride ! So go have some fun outside, away from the news bulletins and devices. 16.01.2022 Well clearly these two snow-unicorns are loving our Thredbo YHA stay! (Where do they get the energy, I wonder?!) The thing I love about staying at YHA is how family-friendly they always are - and Thredbo YHA is no exception. 14.01.2022 We are having such a wonderful stay at the Matterhorn Lodge Perisher - its no wonder families return here year after year. The Matterhorn Lodge is such a relaxing and welcoming place to be. You just feel - looked after Breakfasts and dinners are included in your stay, so as well as being a family budget-friendly snow accommodation choice, Mums and Dads also get a break from cooking and washing up - bliss! Our day is started with a full hot breakfast and a Barista coff...ee for me After breakfast we simply step outside of the front door, snap on our skis and slide down to the ski lifts! This is the no-stress Perisher accommodation choice. After a big day of snow fun everyone cant wait to get back to the lodge for dinner - its a 3-course delight every evening. Theres always something delectable, and a kids meal version too. Soup to start, then roasts, curries, pastas- and a yummy desert to finish up Following dinner its time to relax in the huge bar and lounge. Snow lines the windows but the lounge is cosy inside with its log fire, lounges, big tvs and games tables. On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is night skiing and fireworks too The Matterhorn Lodge is also managing social distancing inside beautifully.
