19.01.2022 Almost finished this hanging that has been on my mind for months. Every week I tried to finish more and more hand made round discs (which took way longer than I expected!) but I got there in the end. Every single piece on this hanging was rolled out, cut to the size I wanted, pressed with my fingers to get the texture, smoothed around the edges and finished with a little hole in the middle. I made 113 in the end which dried on my deck over many weeks then off to the kiln. I’m... am so happy with the way it’s turned out, so simple yet so textural and intriguing. It is super heavy so will need some claws or a stud haha but it’s worth it. I’ll get a full size pic soon, can’t wait for you all to see the finished piece. 16.01.2022 Stylin’ beads . I’ve had a few enquires about these lately as they’re not on the website at the moment! I’m just testing a different type of clay to see which one I prefer. I know tassels are very popular, but I do love a simpler style with knots only like this . Each bead is individually hand rolled and poked by me, then dried naturally and into the kiln. Making a nice little round ball is surprisingly hard so they take some patience and a little red wine. 13.01.2022 To my lovely new followers, each time I bring out a new piece, I (for the most part) let the kids name it. The name choices for this one are questionable. So far Finn (5) and Milla (3) have narrowed it down to: Palm, White Whale, Wee Wee or Hanging. Safe to say we’ll re visit this tomorrow but for now I’ve made a large wall necklace made of XL hand rolled Matt white clay beads and the collar of the palm inflorescence I use for the ‘Seasnake’. I’ve always wanted to use this... part in some way shape or form so I’ve held onto heaps of them! I love this piece, it’s elegant but edgy and so beautiful up close when you can see all the hand rolled beads and the perfectly imperfect nature of them. It’s hard to see the scale in the pic but it’s massive and I largely underestimated the weight of it so it’ll need a good hook- no stickies for this one . I can only make about 2 of these each year given the amount of cuttlefish needed and the fact I collect all of my materials. Could I purchase the cuttlefish? Yes, probably, but that’s not why I started this business. I started it to make the time to do something I absolutely love and involve the kids where I can.
