21.01.2022 With all the different kinds of home loans out there these days it can be a bit confusing. Generally speaking, the more bells and whistles a home loan product has, the higher rate of interest or fees charged. Basic "no-frills' home loans tend to have lower interest rates. That doesn't mean that the more complex products aren't right for you - it just means you should understand them, and their fees, thoroughly. The link below provides simple descriptions of three popular aspects or 'add-ons' of home loans - their advantages and disadvantages. It's a good a place to start for those venturing out into the home loan space. https://www.amp.com.au//what-is-a-redraw-a-line-of-credit-

12.01.2022 There's a thing called "sequencing risk".... Boring name, for sure, but really very important for people in retirement. Let me explain. We all know that markets go up and down, and the reason we invest is that markets tend to go up much more often than they go down. However, the timing of when markets go down can be devastating for retirees, even if in future years markets swiftly recover. Below is an article that illustrates this problem. Unfortunately the article does not provide solutions, but there are definitely ways to manage sequencing risk. I'll address that in my next post. http://www.ampcapital.com.au//sequencing-risk-one-of-the-b

10.01.2022 I just found this excellent short video from MLC on salary sacrificing into super. If you don't know what the term means, or if you've heard of it but don't really know much about it, then it's well worth having a listen - it only goes for 3 minutes. There are some changes coming up with super, and some of details in the video will be different from 1 July onwards, but the principle is exactly the same and the benefits are well explained. Hope you find it helpful, and of course if you want to more, just give my office a call. https://www.facebook.com/MLCAustralia/videos/885463554916196/

07.01.2022 With all the 'stuff' that you hear from the Government, you could be forgiven for tuning out most of the time. But there are some big changes occurring to superannuation from July 1 this year that have been in the pipeline for a while now. The link below will take you to an article and a short video that goes through most of the important changes. Some of it will relate to you, and some of it won't, depending on your age and the amount of wealth you have already accumulated. ...So some of it will make sense, and some might not. But make no mistake about it - your super is an important part of your journey towards retirement, no matter how old you are. If you use it wisely, there are significant financial rewards to be had. I will definitely be talkng more about these superannuation changes the closer we get to July 1 this year, but for now, take the time to get your head around the changes that apply to you. Cheers! http://www.ampcapital.com.au//super-changes-are-coming-2-t

04.01.2022 Every 3 months I provide a market update on what's going on globally (from an economic point of view) and how it might affect investment markets. It's written in a style that is (hopefully!) clear and easy to read. Bottom line? Apart from uncertainties surrounding Trump's presidency, the global picture is reasonably positive and markets are likely to have a positive year. For more detail, click on the link below. Cheers!... http://lewisfs.com.au/quarterly-market-update-april-2017/
