24.01.2022 Protest Vote? Good luck to the candidates that have put their names up for the council elections in 2020, for the Rockhampton region and Livingstone region. I appeal to the incumbents and prospective contenders to realise that rates need to be in line with CPI as average workers, pensioners and people on welfare have not had any significant income rises to offset increasing costs and are being put further into financial hardship with every rate increase. Council should stick ...to the basics of managing roads, rates and rubbish and any grandiose projects such as a levee bank blowing out to 189 million dollars, should be left to the private sector to invest into, if it stacks up to being feasible, in regards to a return of benefit towards the investment. People are hurting out there, and to justify increases in rates as just the cost of a cup of coffee are deluding themselves especially when every other costs such as electricity, car rego, insurance and other bills continue to climb. Land evaluations have been alluded towards decreasing in value in certain areas, why is that? When industry declines in a town and hundreds of jobs are lost, there is an exponential loss of jobs from the support services and supplies that supported the lost business. When there is declining industry in a town, there is a loss of interest for housing as the jobs are not there anymore and as a result, housing values drop considerably from people not investing in homes. I hope people lodge a protest vote against the current Rockahampton region mayor as nearly two thirds of the people didn’t want her anymore at the last 2 elections? Good luck Chris Hooper, I hope you win with a considerable margin and consider the hurt that battling rate payers are going through. See more

23.01.2022 Blue Cards? I watched a 7 news report last night and nearly choked on my coffee when a news report revealed that volunteer fire fighters are required to have a blue card to be able to fight fires, as they are now classified as a health worker. A representative claimed that 86% of the 22000 volunteer fire fighters will be sacked if they don’t get a blue card by the extended time of March next year. Who is the bright spark in the Qld Government, to come up with this idea? Where... is the evidence to support this action on our volunteer fire fighters? I believe that this idea is as helpful as an ash tray on a motor bike. Blue cards are for people working with children and to have one requires criminal checks, a JP or police officer to sign off the application and costs a fee every 2 years. I can understand the requirement for people that work with children on a daily basis, but not with someone that is highly unlikely to have contact with children while fighting fires. Does the Qld government want anyone to volunteer their time to support the community in need, from bush fires? I believe that this is an attack on regional Queenslanders as who will fight the fires if our volunteers quit or are sacked at the end of March next year? See more



22.01.2022 Remembrance Day November 11th is deemed as Remembrance Day, a day to give 1 minute of your time in silence, to remember the fallen that gave you, your freedom today. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of First World War on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month". What Do People Do? Many Australians stop what they are doing at exactly 11am in their local times ...on November 11 each year to dedicate a minute of silence for those who died in war, especially soldiers from as far back as World War I. Those who join in this act of remembrance include teachers, students, politicians, and workers of public and private sector enterprises. Many people wear artificial poppies on the day and key political figures make speeches in remembrance of the nation’s fallen heroes. Services are held at 11am at war memorials in suburbs and towns across the country, at which the Last Post is played by a bugler and a one-minute silence is observed. Remembrance Day has been partly eclipsed by ANZAC Day as the national day of war commemoration. I have and always will, observe 1 minute respect for all of our soldiers that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom that we enjoy today. Please continue this respect and continue this tradition so that all soldiers feel the support in Australia for their efforts in keeping our country safe and providing peace in our world community. 21.01.2022 Stop the Corona Virus The coronavirus fallout from businesses being shut and millions of jobs being lost is an absolute tragedy in our nation today. The reason a lot of people step forward to go into their own business is to be free to set up a lifestyle and a future for themselves and their families, at the same time presenting a service to the community. A quote from Theodore Roosevelt says it all, Dare Greatly... It is not the critic who counts; nor the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly; so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat. To all businesses that have been closed through no fault of their own, I feel for your challenges and that of your employees please keep your spirits high and soldier on. It is important that we as a nation stand together strongly and fight this virus by following the health departments recommendations such as following social distancing guide lines, avoiding crowds, applying good hygiene such as washing hands regularly, sneezing into your elbow, don’t touch your face and self isolate if you are ill. The better we follow the health recommendations the quicker we can get over this virus and get our lives back together. See more

21.01.2022 Bushfire Safety We have serious conditions for serious bush fires in our community and it is important to listen to authorities in regards to keeping your property safe, by preparing and if necessary flee, possessions and property can be replaced, however your life is irreplaceable. Fire needs 3 things to survive: Fuel, Heat and Oxygen and when all this aligns, you have potential for extreme danger. Remove the fuel by removing flammable materials; such as grass, leaves in the... gutter and anything that can be considered as risk. A fire break needs to be created in some situations to help maintain a containment line, if there is no fuel to burn, there is a considerable reduction in risk. Heat can cause things to explode and burst into flames and by ensuring combustible materials are in a safe area and perhaps using water with sprinklers to cool concerned areas is a risk reduction measure? Oxygen is the other necessary ingredient for fire to survive and that is how some chemical fire extinguishers work, by smothering fire and starving it of oxygen. Make no mistakes in preparation and ensure that you follow warnings as bush fires with the right mixture can devastate very quickly, with little opportunity to escape, if you are unprepared. A huge thanks to all of the efforts from our emergency services workers in this extreme event we are facing. I have experienced out on properties, with limited resources and understand what it is like to fight fires in 40 plus heat. Keep your fluids up and if you are called to leave, leave immediately as fires can suck out the oxygen that you need to survive. See more

18.01.2022 Reach Out. The corona virus has already seen businesses closed and millions of people being put onto the jobless list. Please do not give up hope, seek support from the government and support services that can help you through this temporary period. We will all come out okay if we respect the health department and new regulations that are being introduced each day to make our lives safer.... In this time of social isolation, we can look at our finances and look at ways of locking down and saving money; do we need the extra phone, do we need 2 cars, can we cut back on insurance, can we apply for house repayment relief, can we get relief with our power bills, can we cut back on advertising, can we get relief on our rates? Always look at the positive out of every negative, this virus may well make us stronger if we look at our costs and cut back personally, to save us into the future. At all costs, don’t go into spirals of despair and regrets, get back on your feet and tackle your highest debts right down to the lowest as every dollar counts. A dollar saved is a dollar earned, so I recommend that you use this time of isolation into surviving by taking charge and not letting chance ruin you. Remember that this is a temporary set back as viruses don’t live through every season. Please look out for your neighbour and the most vulnerable people in our community and respect social distancing and good hygiene. See more



17.01.2022 Parliamentary enquiry? Mayor forced to levee project alone was the head line 30/1/20 in the Morning Bulletin. I believe that our local member Barry O’Rourke,... should instigate an immediate parliamentary enquiry into the whole levee bank project on behalf of the rate payers and future generations that will be paying for this, years to come. The initial surveys that were done by RRC did not reflect the same results that were done by both Bill Byrnes and Michelle Landry. The results from Bill and Michelle showed that over 60% of people were against the project. The open public consultation day on a park along the river bank did not provide any substantiated answers even with the glossy brochures as the engineers couldn’t answer questions on the pumps and how much the annual maintenance costs were going to cost rate payers as the feasibility report was not concluded. The cost to benefit analysis I believe is highly dubious as where is the itemised cost of previous flood clean ups and what about localised flooding from severe storm cells, where the levee will do absolutely nothing but act as a dam? There is no storm water drainage in Quay Street or the CBD, what hidden costs are there, including the stabilisation work already done to the river bank? The project has gone from 35 40 million to now approx 109 million in a few years before any construction has taken place, who stands to benefit from this blow out, the rate payers? Barry O’Rourke, please investigate this project as I would hate to see rate payers of Rockhampton and the future generations of our young people being burdened with a 109 million dollar plus debt. 13.01.2022 Rockhampton? Lactalis Australia is closing its 30 yr operation in Rockhampton, placing approximately 47 people out of work due to milk production plummeting down 14.7% recently. Before we attack the business operator we need to understand the circumstances for their decision; lack of supply which has been propped up by supply from the south. What has caused this problem, drought, market supply chain, greedy interests? Businesses survive when costs are controlled and there is... a market that is sustainable to allow the business to grow and employ people locally. How many businesses have we seen come and go? How many office spaces, vacant buildings and land do we currently have in our town and is it a healthy situation for prospective investors to look at? The end result of the current management, I believe will send this town into bankruptcy as there has been no real permanent jobs created into this region. We need permanent jobs to create stability in this town such as manufacturing, not play grounds and water parks. The lack of permanent jobs will destabilise everyone’s housing nest eggs as the value will decline from lack of demand from people wanting to invest in their future. No future for our region will impact everyone from the rich, middle income and the poor. We need a change right now, before the situation is too late and becomes nearly irreversible. It is not only the immediate impact on the people that have lost their jobs it is the impact of other businesses that support the business that has closed and the end result is more jobs lost. Miles refuses to apologise for controversial tweet about Trump’s COVID diagnosis 03/10/2020 Queensland’s Deputy Premier Steven Miles is refusing to apologise for a controversial tweet about President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis. President Trump announced via Twitter both he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19, in a response to the tweet, Mr Miles asked if the president had considered intravenous disinfectant.... I take great offence to our deputy premier’s remark, in regards to his statement that the leader of our free democracy should take a lethal injection? We dodged a bullet, not from the ALP premier in QLD, but from public advice from the chief health officer and Queenslanders following that advice. Australia has relied on the United States in past wars, to save our country from attack from hostile countries. Our freedom has been fought by our patriotic Australians that have served our country to preserve the freedoms that we have today. Steven Miles has a Doctorate in Unionism to his name. The wharfie unions are crying out for a 6% increase to their wages that average over 100 000 dollars, in times of a pandemic crisis, where thousands of businesses are going broke and unemployment figures are going through the roof, going slow for necessary items being imported to our country? The unions have been responsible for putting Australian service member’s lives at risk for several wars. Sabotage at the wharfs, where fights broke out with the US army in WW2 and in the Vietnam War. I hope that Queensland doesn’t get involved in a new war as I am sure that if Queensland was subject to a foreign attack that our Health minister would be crying for help from the USA, and eating his criticism against the elected leader of the free world?

03.01.2022 Boycott our council? Businesses are taking the hardest hit with this coronavirus and the community is taking the hardest hit with loss of income due to jobs lost. How do we bring accountability back into our region, when our mayor and councillors are talking about 2.5 % rate increases in the most severe economic down turn? I suggest that our business community, that are the worst hit, introduce a boycott on all business and services to our mayor and councillors if they increa...se rates onto our struggling rate payers, what are your thoughts? I certainly am disgusted about any talks of an increase in rates; they should be debating decreases and assistance to our community. If they don't want to deliver a service to our community, by helping us in these unprecedented times then maybe we need to give them a strong message that this is totally unacceptable and boycott them from our community? Oh well, you are now a minority voter, as ratepayers don’t seem to have any voting power anymore as the levee bank, that may break our financial bank, continues on with no accountability, please Barry sack this administration as they will send us broke?
