20.01.2022 We may not be able to play right now, but when every state's got the green light, we want to come back bigger and better than ever - and you can help! A small (or large if that's more your style) donation will help us build funds to support the development of LGBT+ inclusive teams around Australia like Southern Lights Ice Hockey, while also helping us have the resources to advocate for our community at all levels of Australian hockey. And because we're partnering with Australian Sports Foundation, your donation's totally tax deductible - very handy this close to tax time!

17.01.2022 Hey queer hockey family - you may have noticed we've been a bit quiet lately, and I wanted to give a bit of a personal update as President on why there hasn't been a lot going on. Like many in our (and the wider) community, I struggle with mental illness - in my specific case, anxiety and depression. Over the past few weeks, things have been particularly difficult, and I've needed to step back from a number of responsibilities. It's easy and common to feel guilty or like yo...u're failing when your mental health impacts your ability to go about your normal life and responsibilities. That's why I wanted to share this with all of you - I probably waited a bit too long to take a break and get treatment because I felt that way about my responsibilities. Please, if any of you are struggling at the moment and need assistance, make sure you ask for it. From friends, family or professionals, whoever you feel comfortable talking to. GPs can help you with a mental health plan to get Medicare rebates when seeing psychological professionals, and there are a number of phone and online services you can contact to chat to someone if you feel more comfortable talking to someone anonymously or need immediate help. These services include: - QLife (LGBTQIA+ support): https://qlife.org.au/ - Lifeline: 13 11 14 - Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636 or online chat at https://www.beyondblue.org.au/ Having received the treatment I needed, I'm doing much better and am looking forward to working with the committee to try and get some fun online catch-ups organised soon to cater to everyone from us Melburnians in Stage 4 to the free-range residents of states like Western Australia. Stay safe, and remember to take care of yourself during what's a very difficult time for many. Carl

13.01.2022 As well as being Trans Day of Visibility, yesterday was a special day for our organisation too - two years ago on 31 March Kade Matthews put out the first call for interest in what was destined to become Australian LGBT Ice Hockey and Southern Lights Ice Hockey in 2019.

10.01.2022 iceHQ have been the home rink of Southern Lights Ice Hockey since they started playing in 2019, and it's been a particularly tough year for them with restrictions keeping the rink closed most of 2020. 02.01.2022 A lot of people like to pretend [racial violence] does not happen. That it does not exist. That’s part of the problem. That’s where you get pushback as a minority.
