Any questions should be directed towards the Rev. David Reid.

The first thing which comes to my mind is the enormous faith which Jesus must have had to expect the universe to provide for the needs of the people who had come to listen to his teachings. The event did NOT start with the feeding of the people...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Eucharist of the Ascension

02.01.2022 A Christmas message from the Vicar: Each year, when Christmas comes around, it is a busy time for people. It is a happy time of giving of presents and of families and friends getting together. It also is a sad time when we realise that some of our family and friends are no longer there having departed this world. Christmas is a time when we celebrate the birth of the child Jesus in Bethlehem as recorded in the gospels. It is the memorial of the commencement of a love story to... be generated on a world-wide scale. It is seen as the commencement of Christianity, a religion which was supposed to be promoting the commandment of Love your neighbour. Does that mean that we need to put ourselves and all our possessions at the disposal of our neighbours at any time? Does that mean that we need to dispose of all our possessions and hand our money to the poor? Does that mean that we are supposed to invite any homeless person into our home? Those are questions which each one of us needs to answer individually. Loving our neighbour can only work if greed and self-interest are overcome. And, looking around, what has humanity learned in the last 2000 years? Are we able to express our love for each other and for the whole of creation in a positive and effective manner? There is a certain innocence about babies; they follow their instincts. Babies have not yet learned the politically correct way of doing things. Babies also are totally dependent on their parents and other family members. We, as Christians, need to follow the example of Jesus in arriving on this world as a fully human baby, as one of us and then, as he grew up, giving himself totally to what his Father needed him to do to teach humanity that the only way to happiness is Love. No doubt Jesus was a highly advanced soul ready to express the complete Love of the Godhead for His humanity and for all of His creation. In many ways, we can see Jesus as our elder brother who is there to guide us. No doubt Jesus as the Christ was the total expression of the Godhead, the complete expression of Love Incarnate, here on this world to show us the way back to God which many of us seem to have lost. Perhaps we can find this Love by going back to our innocence as a baby through following our intuition, totally trusting the Christ child in us to guide us back to the Father realising that we all belong to the Fathers family and that we all are brothers and sisters who depend on each other. The clergy and congregation of St John the Divine wish each and every one of you a blessed Christmas and spiritually prosperous 2020. On behalf of St John the Divine Liberal Catholic Church, Fr Adrian de Graaf (Vicar)
