23.01.2022 Congratulations Andy from Life Education Ballarat and District! Andy Sholl: Governor General's Medallion Recipient 2020 was a unique year that brought many challenges. For organisations like Life Education Victoria that do so much in the community, the ‘how’ may have changed but the ‘why’ and the ‘who’ have not. ... The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia Honours and Awards recognises the outstanding service and contributions of Australians. Recipients come from right across the country and from all walks of life. Whilst some well-known people receive awards, many more are known only to those they help and serve day-in-day-out. All recipients are worthy of recognition and celebration. Life Education are proud to present Andy Sholl, from the Life Education Victoria Geelong Committee, with the Governor General’s Medallion for his outstanding voluntary commitments to Life Education Victoria and the community. Andy has been a part of the Life Education Geelong Committee for 20 years and has collectively fundraised on average $10K/per year or $250,000 to support operational costs. Andy is an ex School Principal who is passionate about education to drive change in key social challenges - drugs and alcohol abuse. He has made it his priority to ensure that as many children in the City of Greater Geelong get to experience the Life Education Victoria programs. As the president of the Life Education Geelong Committee, Andy has built strong relationships with local businesses and organisations such as Geelong West Rotary and has maintained all those relationships in spite of COVID19 last year. The City of Greater Geelong donates $8,800 per year to support the operational costs of our program. The committee are also successful each year in receiving grants from the ‘The Give Where You Live Fund ‘ that supports students in low socio economic areas to access our program. He is a man of many skills and this has significantly benefited the running of our program in the City of the Greater Geelong. From fixing a broken hinge in the van, to writing a submission or delivering a presentation to a new stakeholder, Andy will stop at nothing to guarantee the program is maintained and our impact felt widely in the local school community. Andy has always been instrumental in building the relationships between the committee, it’s local facilitators as well as the team at head office. With the rapidly changing COVID19 situation this year, Andy has been the glue that has supported our Geelong facilitators and committee to transition to the new direction of Life Education Victoria. Thank you Andy!
