23.01.2022 Happy Biannual Confusion Day. Does anyone know what time it is?

23.01.2022 The ABS has released its annual marriage statistics and here are some that we're most interested in this year including a new landmark number of marriages by Au...stralian civil celebrants: Provisional data released for January to June 2020 shows a 31.9% decrease in marriages. Total marriages down 4.5% from 2018 to 2019. Queer marriages accounted for 4.8% of marriages, down from 5.5% in 2018 - we're pretty interested that that percentage hasn’t dropped more, to be honest. We would have thought there’d be a flood in 2018 and then less in 2019, but it’s pretty static. March most popular month in 2019 - 12.6%. Spring was the most popular season - 32.4%. Saturday 19 October most popular day in 2019 - 1976 couples nationwide. July most popular for weddings in NT! NT had 10 more weddings than 2018, all other states had less Fascinatingly they’ve reported on registered relationships this year, and 16.4% of all legal relationships (if you add registered relationships to marriages) were registered rather than marriages! That registered relationship proportion is going up year on year, which I’m also interested in given queer couples can now marry and no longer need the registered relationship process And finally, we celebrants have tipped over the 80% mark. Civil celebrant solemnised marriages made up 80.3% of all marriages in 2019.

23.01.2022 See 2020 out five of the best hours out could have this year, OPD with Sarah Aird Civil Celebrant https://www.lifeskillstraining.com.au/opd/opd-webinars

20.01.2022 We’ve had a planning meeting today on how our OPD offering will be new and different in 2021, and we’re so excited to tell you about it. In the seventeen years that marriage celebrants have had to complete ongoing professional development it has devolved into something celebrants have to do out of obligation instead of something we want to do for continual (ongoing) improvement (development) of our skills (profession). In 2021 Life Skills Training is changing the game, thanks in advance for coming along for the ride!

20.01.2022 We believe in year-long, life-long, training and development because you don’t even know what you don’t know.

18.01.2022 There’s a powerful strategy over on the @celebrant.institute right now. Grab a friend or family member, even over the internet, and see if they can find you, without you telling them how to find you.

18.01.2022 We thought we might reply to some messages in one big post: We have one Face to Face OPD session left and it’s in Perth, Western Australia, on the 13th of December with David Carey.on the topic of legal forms and difficult clients, it’ll be a ripper of session for West Australian celebrants. There are 32 spots left in five of our remaining Zoom webinars, the last one is December 9, and all you need is a computer, or tablet, or phone, and an internet connection. Pants and m...akeup are optional. Distance education enrolments are open until December 4, and the coursework is due back December 15. So if reading and filling out PDFs is your jibe, you've got just over a week to start. https://lifeskillstraining.com.au and click on OPD

18.01.2022 The Wedding and Events Industry was, and still is, heavily impacted by the COVID-19 restrictions imposed throughout the country. To assist going forward, Kathry...n has been working tirelessly to create an online platform to enable Celebrants to personalise their own set of Client Terms and Conditions. Imagine, booking fees, postponements, and cancellations clauses galore! If you're a celebrant, and this sounds like something you may be interested in, check out the link below to find out more; https://hallettlaw.com.au/online-store/ And don't worry, photographers and videographers, you're next!

18.01.2022 I recently completed my OPD with Sarah Aird and it was a very enjoyable day! The content and engagement with the other participants was managed so very well and I learnt so much. I would recommend her as a trainer for sure! @libby_cornish_celebrant

17.01.2022 The 2020 OPD obligation remains in place. You have until 31 December 2020 to complete your OPD. To ensure you do not miss out on fulfilling your OPD obligation we encourage you to contact your training provider to discuss how you may undertake your training as face to face sessions may no longer be an option. The AGD has made available a one hour OPD activity which consists of 25 questions on legal aspects of marriage in Australia. The OPD activity is available on your self-s...ervice portal and is free of charge. Guidance on how to access and complete the OPD activity is available in our factsheet ‘Knowledge of the law 2020 OPD activity’ available on our website. In exceptional circumstances, you can apply for an exemption from completing OPD. You have until 31 December 2020 to apply to the Registrar of Marriage Celebrants for an exemption. Applications can be made via the self-service portal. We suggest that celebrants make arrangements to undertake their OPD sooner rather than later and work with the OPD providers on the method of delivery.

17.01.2022 The freedom allowed by the Australian marriage legislation makes the Australian civil celebrant movement one of the best places in the world to be that person who stands at the end of the aisle and marries people. We’re proud to be a leader in your world!

12.01.2022 All of Sarah Aird Civil Celebrant’s OPD dates have sold out so we’ve just released one more: November 25, from midday Melbourne time, in an online webinar over Zoom. Register now at https://celebrant.io/nov25

11.01.2022 Check your spam folders for an email from me with a link to a website which tells you which day of March it is, five OPD sessions you should consider before Christmas, info on how OPD is changing in 2021, and a ‘happy new year’ because let’s start saying it early this year.

10.01.2022 There’s only a few ongoing professional development sessions left before Christmas. If you’re a little sceptical of OPD online, here’s Cassie’s review: I completed my celebrant OPD with Sarah via Zoom on Wednesday and had such a positive experience. I was a little sceptical about how she could hold our attention for six hours online, but she did it! I gained a lot of value out of the legal refresher and loved the break-out rooms, which gave us an opportunity to network and discuss issues in smaller groups, something I've really missed this year during lockdown. I also loved the little pop quizzes along the way, which was useful for my wandering mind. Thanks Sarah and team, always love doing OPD with you.

09.01.2022 Zoom OPD, Baby Boomer approved

07.01.2022 One day soon, you might be there already, after the lockdowns and the restrictions, you’re going to have to work hard again. What are you doing today to ready yourself for then?

06.01.2022 It’s that time of year in the celebrant calendar to ask yourself, how cool are you?

05.01.2022 We do two things really well. Your Certificate IV in Celebrancy to become a celebrant, and your Ongoing Professional Development (OPD) to stay a celebrant. Hatches, matches, no dispatches. You can just contact the Attorney-General’s Department for the dispatching part.

05.01.2022 The NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages has released the numbers of how many marriages were solemnised through the past few months of COVID. A 69% reduction in April, and even a 26% decline in March when many people were still having weddings until the last week.

05.01.2022 Weirdest place you’ve joined a Zoom call from this year? This is Josh starting today’s OPD webinar from outside an airport with Sarah and the celebrants doing OPD today. What has been your weirdest Zoom location?

04.01.2022 What is, who is, Life Skills Training? We do two things remarkably well. 1) The ongoing professional development all Australian commonwealth authorised marriage celebrants need to complete. It’s five hours a year, and we’re really proud of our offering. You can do it in a webinar (online over Zoom), distance education (PDFs or printed manuals in your own time), or when it’s safe, face to face.... 2) The qualification needed to become a commonwealth authorised marriage celebrant, the Certificate IV in Celebrancy. Our students will be the best celebrants in the marketplace, running sustainable and relevant businesses. If you’ve done your Cert IV and your OPD, then we love the Celebrant Institute for everyday support in your celebrancy practice.
