23.01.2022 A little reminder. Enjoy today and any chocoaltely treats you may choose
18.01.2022 It's Easter Long Weekend so routine may be out, meals may be out of your control and different foods/snacks may be on the menu. This may disrupt your BGLs - it's ok. Here are a few tips to get you through if you experience a level above target range this long weekend. - try not to stress... - think about why it may be high and try something different next time - don't withhold meals/snacks because you had a high level - Remember to incorporate any Easter treats into your carb counts with meals and snacks and combine them with good fats and protein to minimise the impact on your BGLs. - If it works for you this weekend try to keep up some activity. A nice family walk. Rest up if you need it :) Enjoy this time with family and friends.
16.01.2022 FRIDAY DIABETES PREVENTION TIP An Easter appropriate Type 2 Diabetes prevention tip seeing as it is Easter weekend. A few things to remember over this weekend (and always!). Having 'treats' such as chocolate Easter eggs is something you do not have to completely give up if you have GDM or are wanting to prevent Type 2 Diabetes after having GDM. ... It's just important to approach it carefully and considerately. Think about portions - don't overdo it. Choose something (eg a specific Easter egg) that you know you would like to have and enjoy and eat it mindfully and without guilt. Try not to restrict - as this often ends in binging later Don't skip meals or snacks because you are having some easter treats, think about when you are having these 'treats' eg combine them into your afternoon snack. Think about pairing them with appropriate fat/protein snacks to help reduce the impact on your blood glucose levels. You can absolutely have an enjoyable and guilt free Easter!

08.01.2022 Life After GDM You've made it through a pregnancy (or multiple pregnancies) with GDM - so now what? We know that approximately 60% of women who have had gestational diabetes will go on to develop Type 2 Diabetes within 20 years and that women who have had GDM should have follow-up cardiovascular screening to better assess early risk of cardiovascular disease. ... So what does this look like? - chatting to your GP regularly about health screening and pathology to keep an eye on - keeping up those healthy food habits you were nailing while you had GDM (this doesn't mean that you have to follow the strict diet plan) - exercising regularly including resistance training - working on reducing stress - improving sleep quality and quantity - get educated! Know what you need to be looking out for in terms of developing Type 2 Diabetes and the screening that is recommended regularly. If you have questions, get in touch!
