25.01.2022 It’s self care Saturday again. Make sure you carve sometime out of today just for you.

24.01.2022 ANXIETY, WORRY, BIG FEELINGS and BEHAVIOUR in CHILDREN. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the link between ANXIETY, WORRIES, BIG FEELINGS, and BEHAVIOUR in children. In particular, the many ways in which these feelings can show themselves, and the variety of behaviours that express these feelings. I see this a lot, in the children we work with, other children around us, and of course my own child. Not to forget, my own memories of being a child myself. And it has got me ...wondering: what can or do we put in place during childhood to better equip us as adolescents and later as adults, in managing these feelings, these worries, these anxieties, and in recognising the behaviours that stem from them? There are so many ways that anxious, worried, BIG feelings come out, in children and in adults. There’s the classic ‘fight, flight, freeze’ that’s always talked about. There’s the nitpicking, backchat, focus on controlling any small aspect of life, there’s the inability to act. There’s the anger, the ‘acting out’, the destruction. And so much more. Does any of this sound familiar to you? I know as an adult I have developed strategies to ‘cope’ when my own big feelings get the best of me. As a parent I’m actively working at supporting my child’s experience of all feelings big and small laying the groundwork and providing support for him to develop his own strategies, manage his own behaviours, and be the best he can be. As a psychologist working with children, I am we are working closely with the child and their families to help them recognise and acknowledge their feelings, helping them find ways to express their feelings, and helping them develop their own strategies in the face of their own big feelings, their worries, their anxieties. There is no one true right way to help your child manage their BIG FEELINGS. Lift Your Future Psychological Services can help you and your child find the ways that work for them. If any of this resonates with you, if it puts you in mind of your own child and their experience of ANXIETY, WORRY, BIG FEELINGS or BEHAVIOUR, contact Lift Your Future Psychological Services on [email protected] to discuss how we can help. --- Elizabeth Bone: Educational and Developmental Psychologist ---
