25.01.2022 Comfort zones... A favourite place to be, particularly for students! It's as the name suggests, it's comfortable and it makes us feel safe and secure. We know we won't make any mistakes and we'll just cruise on through whatever it is we are doing... Ask yourself though, is this really learning? If you can answer every single Maths question correctly right from the get-go, can you honestly say you have learnt something new for the day or was it something you already knew? Ho...w do we get our students out of their comfort zone?... We build supportive learning environments, tailored to their needs. If you think that your child needs an extra helping hand to build the foundations of true learning, contact me today! 0419 323 146 :) See more

23.01.2022 THINGS TO REMEMBER: 1. These times are not your ‘norm.' Your first thoughts upon reading my ideas and tips could be, ‘my child will never go for that’ or ‘I can’t get 3 kids to focus all at once!’ This could be the perfect opportunity to try something new and be flexible in how your home operates- it might even be the catalyst for changes you have previously wished for! 2. As a parent, you are NOT expected to TEACH your child/ren! What you are expected to do, is provide your ...child/ren with a safe and healthy learning environment. More to come on this! Teachers are still working and they’re still available to assist when needed. 3. No question is ever silly or too small. We often tell kids to ask us anything because chances are, there is someone else who has the same question but is too afraid to ask! The same applies for adults :) Don't forget to like this page for regular updates, resources and tips. Please share with anyone who might benefit from this too!
22.01.2022 The end of term is fast approaching! This means school reports are just around the corner... Some students may be excited about this and others roll their eyes and want to hide the report away! Having open discussions with your child during the school year about their progress and how they are travelling will help identify any areas they need further assistance in... We all have strengths and weaknesses- our strengths should be celebrated and our weaknesses identified and worked with... Concerned your child's weakness is academic? I can help! 0419 323 146

21.01.2022 Building a child's resilience is such an important aspect of development a sense of the whole self! Had a bad day? That's OK, there is always tomorrow... Didn't get the mark you were hoping for on a test? That's OK, find out what happened and work towards ensuring it doesn't happen next time... Made a decision that didn't work out the way you thought it would (within reason) ? That's OK, you've learnt a lesson! No matter what, all we can ask is for our children to keep moving forward and to continue learning along the way!
21.01.2022 Happy Holidays! Thanks to those of you who have entrusted me with providing tuition to your child over the past 6 months! I will be away until the end of this month, but if you think I can help your child with any educational needs, please don't hesitate to contact me!
20.01.2022 The holidays are almost over for our students who return to school this coming week... Some will be looking forward to returning and others will be dreading it! I always take the time to sit down and reflect on time that has been in order to ensure I am on the path I truly want to be... Is this something you practise yourself? Having open conversations and modelling this behaviour with your child will help them to do this themselves in the future... Need help with some hints & tips? Watch this space!
20.01.2022 Education isn’t a competition between learners... it is about our INDIVIDUAL progress and improvement. Contact Carissa on 0419 323 146 or private message to get your child’s tutoring journey started!
17.01.2022 When we ask young children what they want to be when they grow up, they often 'dream big!' I want to be an astronaut, scientist, firefighter, doctor, vet, etc... As we get older though, these dreams often become 'smaller' (and arguably easier to attain)... When does this happen? Why does this happen? There are many reasons, but mostly it comes down to self-belief and self-esteem! Let's ensure every child has the opportunity to achieve their genuine dream... The best time to start is now. Make sure they reach their full potential by providing them with the tools to enhance their education. Contact Carissa on 0419 323 146 for assistance! :)
16.01.2022 WORKSPACE I hope your first day of remote learning is going well within your household! Something to consider is how your child(ren) was (were) set-up for the day. Were they constantly out of their chairs looking for resources they needed (or ones they didn’t need?). Was there an action plan at the beginning of the day, so they knew what they had to work through? Was the space they were working in assisting with this?... Here are some tips to create a workspace which will be the basis for a positive learning environment: - Desk or the kitchen table: these should be in a communal area. Kids are more likely to stay on track if they know that their screens are easily seen by others. This space must be free from clutter and stocked with the necessary resources (pens, rulers, etc). Primary school students could have this space set similar to their desk at school and secondary students should have a pencil case with everything they need ready to go each day. - Laptop/iPad/Internet: what you need specifically will depend on which school your child attends. If you are experiencing problems with the technology being used, please contact your school. Most that I have heard of are providing hard copies of work and are assisting those without computers at home. - More than one child working at once? Have them sitting in the same area- quite often the older child will be able to help out the younger one and a student is more likely to work when they see someone else working as well! This will make it easier for you to monitor what they’re doing too! - A timetable/checklist that is visible at all times. More to come on this in the next post!!! However you choose to set up your child’s learning space, it should be quiet, clean and free from distractions (TV, music with the volume up, etc). Also discourage the use of headphones for playing music, as this is another form of distraction! Do you have anything else to add to this list? Do you have any questions specific to your family’s needs? Leave a comment or private message the page * Here is an example of what a desk arrangement could look like- thanks to the mum who allowed me to share these! Feel free to post your set-up to give others some ideas!
16.01.2022 Each and every day, we are given the opportunity to learn something new...Ensure your child is recognising what they are learning by incorporating conversations around this. This could be in the car on the way home from school or around the dinner table (or elsewhere!)... Sharing something you have learnt models the fact that we are all learning constantly regardless of our age and will help you reflect on the positives of your day too! Happy Friday!
14.01.2022 Hmmmm??? Does the word ‘Algebra’ evoke fear in your child? I can help! Contact Carissa on 0419 323 146 or private message to book your FREE consultation!
14.01.2022 I'm still here! This page has been quiet for a while now due to our family expanding and me taking some time off to care for our toddler and newborn!... With the remote learning experience just around the corner, I thought I would post some tips and tricks to support you through this. Please PM me if you have any questions in relation to the remote learning experience. I would love to be able to share these questions on my platform (anonymously if you wish). I will do my best... to answer them and will also invite you all to contribute as well! Let's turn this page into a supportive community so that we can help minimise the stress that might be felt in households at this point in time! Please share with others who you think might be interested in this!

01.01.2022 CHALLENGE: use the numbers available and the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to hit the target. Each number can only be used once but it may not be necessary to use all of the numbers. This activity is a great way to engage students who are competitive! You may want to set a timer for your child, or race against someone else! :)
