25.01.2022 In each and every one of us is a little gift. In each and every one of us is the ability for greatness. So ask if you’ve ever asked yourself; how is he always happy or why does she seem to ‘have it all’, it’s because they have found their gift and are acting on it. When I was 19 years old I found my gift and I ran with it. I dropped out of Melbourne University (or as they like to call it ‘The University of Melbourne’) and I started a personal training course. Coming from a ba...ckground where academic achievement is of the utmost importance, this was hard for my parents to comprehend. However soon they realized how important it was for me to make this decision. I urge you all to find your gift and when you do, run with it. It may be your passion for music or your love for fashion. It could even be helping the elderly or teaching future generations. No matter what it is, forget the titles of exclusivity and go for it. There is so much more to life than just getting up and going to work. If you don’t like your job and are permanently miserable because of it, do you really think that’s called living ? No...that’s just simply existing. Now, I am 24 (hard to believe sometimes) and I am so thankful I took this leap. For me, the world of strength has allowed me to express my true self and has allowed me to connect with thousands of people. It is MY medium through which I feel I can impact a change on this world. Taking this leap is scary though. There will be bumps and a whole lot of shit that gets in your way but I promise you this... at some point you will reap the rewards of your decision and YOU WILL realize why you made that jump to live instead of exist...

24.01.2022 STOP SQUATTING That's right. Squats are bad for your knees (especially if you squat below parallel). They are also really bad for your back due to the excessive axial loading of the spine. Hold on...is it the squat or is it you that's the problem?... There is no exercise that is inherently good or bad. It all depends on the individual at hand and whether or not they qualify to execute the movement in a safe and efficient manner. For example... I had a client today who did their first session. In our consult she said that she always had back pain after squatting and most quadriceps dominant movements. From her screening, it was evident that she had very tight ankles (especially her left one which was causing some rotation in her squat). She also struggled to hinge at the hips (in a wide stance couple with external rotation) without getting into flexion at her lumbar spine. These particular issues were all functional, not structural, which means that we were able to illicit changes with some mobility work. After releasing her posterior capsule of the hip and doing some work to increase dorsiflexion of the ankle, her squat looked a whole heap better and most importantly it allowed her to squat PAIN FREE. Now you could say, "Why do all that work just so she can squat?" Well firstly, she wants to get back to doing Barbell Back squats. And second of all, being able to squat without pain and dysfunction serves as a great screening tool itself. It allows us to look for tightness through the lower limbs and by adding the overhead squat test we can also look for dysfunction through the thoracic spine. Remember, THERE IS NO INHERENTLY GOOD OR BAD EXERCISE (apart from curling in the squat rack). If you suffer from back pain when training, drop a comment or shoot me a message or an email at [email protected] :)

19.01.2022 My biggest decision. I say it every year, but this has most definitely been (and will continue to be) my busiest year to date. Working 50+ hours a week and studying full time never gets easier. However it comes with great pleasure to tell you now that I will be opening up my own performance center this year. All the early mornings and late nights are worth it when you get to work with some amazing clients and athletes. I cannot wait to continue doing so in the new premise.... The gym is called 'Avia Performance' and I will be opening it with my right hand man, Luke Troiani. He will be heading up the Musculoskeletal work. Our goal is to not only coach our athletes, but to also educate and inspire change in the industry. Stay tuned for more updates on the new place. As always team, stay strong.

19.01.2022 Life is bound to throw curve balls your way. Which path are you going to take? Are you going to let it defeat you and ebrace the experience and learn from it? Yes certain events can make you feel upset but you have the ability to grow from them. Being injured and not being able to move around pain free since July 22nd 2015 has sucked (yes I remember the exact date) but I am absolutely loving training at the moment and I wouldn't have it any other way. My weaknesses are now b...ecoming my strengths. The same thing applies to life in general. Things will come up but you will learn from them and you have the ability to become an even better person as a result. Never lose hope. I guarantee there is the light at the end of the tunnel #teamavia

18.01.2022 The atmosphere and level of intensity has been unreal from all our lifters. Here's one of my favourite moments from the last few weeks. Cristian's love for training is second to none and he was pretty happy with this 202.5kg single. Watching everyone progress and dedicate themselves to the cause is inspiring to us as coaches. #teamavia

16.01.2022 Why do you train? For the first time in a very long time my dad got the flu badly enough for him not to go to work. I cannot remember the last time he took a day off due to sickness. Both my parents are now 61 yrs young. Dad still trains in the gym every week boasting about his 50kg deadlifts and mum will ensure she goes for walks on a regular basis. Neither of these activities take a whole lot of time out of their day but by staying consistent they have maintained relativel...y good health. By staying active and being conscious of your health you can save lots of stress and sickness as you get older. Enjoy the physical activities you partake in as well! Choose things you'd actually want to do. Whatever your goals may be, stay focused and enjoy the ride :) #teamavia

16.01.2022 Rome wasn't built in a day Progress in the gym takes time. It requires effort, diligence and a whole lot of consistency. It can of course be hard when we're not seeing any immediate progress however take a step back and have a look at the big picture.... In the last few weeks you may have been struggling with a certain lift but have a look at where you originally started. You may not have lost a lot of weight in the past month but look at what you have accomplished thus far. You may have even put on 5 or 10 kg on a certain lift which is something to still be very proud of. Find a coach that you trust and keep plugging away and believing in the processes. "Good things take time". As always, stay strong team :)

10.01.2022 These 2 little pocket rocket rockets are a direct reflection of what mental strength is all about. I could harp on about them for hours but I'll refrain this time. A conservative top single for Elena Beslis with 112.5kg and a massive PB for Sandi Alcorn with a 140kg deadlift. Both of these girls weighing in at 53kg. Being proud to coach them is an understatement

09.01.2022 This is the longest I have gone without posting anything on this page. So apologies for that. With setting up the new place and getting life in order, things have been on the busier side that's for sure. At the end of the day, however, we can't just make excuses or continue to blame external factors. We get one shot at this thing called life so make the most of it. Don't sit around blaming anybody for the lack of success in your desired field. Don't hold grudges and never let... your ego or pride get in the way of what you really want. If you have a goal in the gym then go out and chase it down. If you're struggling, take a step back, seek guidance and find the root of the issue. Once you have done this, the problem solving is over and you can now get to work. As always team stay strong and stay tuned for updates on the new place as well as the new Facebook page. Will keep you all posted !

09.01.2022 Training the beginner lifter. Deanna came to me as a beginner. She had been to the gym sparingly and had never done any form of consistent strength training. Over the past 6 months she has worked extremely hard and has reaped the rewards for her efforts. ... Her current numbers are: Squat: 95kg Bench: 62.5kg Deadlift: 110 How did we get this far? She has adhered to her training plan, she listens to her coach and she enjoys the process of learning about her body and lifting heavy weights! Alongside all of this, her understanding of nutrition protocols has helped create healthier relationships with food. For the begginer lifter, keep things simple. Focus on 'bang for your buck' exercises and make sure you align the programming with individual goals. As always team, stay strong.

08.01.2022 Yesterday I spent my Saturday afternoon a little differently to normal. Two of my clients in particular, none other than the dynamic mother-son duo of Alex and Ange, are pretty much like family to me. I've had the pleasure of knowing them both for a while and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Yesterday we cooked lunch together to go through a few ways for them to still enjoy their food whilst on a calorie deficit. Alex loves everything about the regular souvlaki so we decided... to make some healthier homemade souvlakis ! We bought some lamb backstrap along with all the salad ingredients, sauces, seasonings and even some feta and we managed to create souvlakis for well under 500 cal ! Was a very fun afternoon and was great spending some time with them outside of the gym. My clients are my family away from home. Here's to a great week ahead team! #teamavia

07.01.2022 My cheeky client Eileen. Eileen was diagnosed with Leukemia a few years ago. Despite everything she keeps a smile on her face and dances around in between sets in the gym. Leukemia involves abnormal amounts of leucocytes being produced which can supress the normal production of red blood cells. ... I am excited to help the guys down at Goodlife Coburg to help raise some money for the Leukemia Foundation. It's a great cause to support and I'm excited to bring some attention to their charity. Feel free to come by for the Group Workout they will be running at 7.30am and to see the other little events they'll have on. You can make donations on the day. This is what Eileen's daughter had to say: "Holding this fundraiser means that my mum gets the chance to battle leukaemia. Every dollar means that she has the opportunity to get the cure she so desperately needs and deserves". Hope to see some of you there tomorrow!

04.01.2022 So proud of this young lady. She has been through a lot over the last 8 months and to come back into competition today was an achievement in itself. She missed out on 2nd place purely on bodyweight and subsequently came 3rd in quite a competitive weightclass today. Couldn't be prouder of the way she handled herself today, especially after missing her first deadlift. Love everything this girl stands for.... Great work schenky denk.
