24.01.2022 THE DECK IS OPEN!!! With the easing of restrictions in regional Victoria the tasting room and deck will resume regular Fri-Sat trading from Fri 25th SEPT. We have made a few changes to align with the current restrictions which will include a choose-your-own-adventure style tasting. The setup is as follows:... The deck will be open for the taste of East Gippsland Platters, wines by the glass, local beers, etc. Inside will focus on our new CoVID Safe wine tastings. Wine tastings groups limited to 6 people. Outside tables seat up to 8 people. 1 booking per table. Contact details for everyone attending the cellar door will be collected via QR code on your phone. Bookings are essential - especially for our taste of East Gippsland Platters. Retail only sales don’t require bookings. We are really looking forward to welcoming you back to the tasting room. 22.01.2022 ** CELLAR DOOR OPERATIONS ** The way our cellar door operates has had to change to manage the new restrictions put in place to adhere to the Victorian Governments CoVID-19 Rules. As we are limited to 12 people in the cellar door at any time we are open for wine tastings and retail sales Friday to Sunday 11am 5pm. Unfortunately we will not have any tables on the deck to ensure that we are able to continue to offer the same level of service while maintaining cleaning and sa...nitising protocols. For those of you looking to come out to enjoy a glass of wine and take in the views across to the vineyard, unfortunately it is not something we are able to accommodate at this point. We cant wait to welcome you all back for the full Lightfoot & Sons experience once social distancing has been lifted. For the tastings these are the specifics: The number of guests in our tasting room is strictly limited to 12. We are have been evolving things as we go so that we are able to balance being COVID Safe with demand while continuing to offer our take on a cellar door experience. We open Friday to Sunday 11am 5pm. What's on offer: Wine Tasting from $9 (45 mins) Taste of East Gippsland Experience - a curated food and wine tasting showcasing... some of our favourite food from the region built around our Single Block wines $65 for two (45 mins). Drinks on the Deck - enjoy a glass of our wine on the deck while taking the views over to the vineyard or down the Mitchel River Valley with a Taste of East Gippsland Platter. We also have a selection of local beers if wine is not your thing (up to 2hrs). 08.01.2022 Our Single Block wines represent the best of what we do. We keep a close eye on fruit in the different blocks of the vineyard to find the most concentrated and balanced flavours. These wines are more structured and intense and great to keep in the cellar for special occasions. 2017 Home Block Chardonnay. A Chardonnay for Chardy lovers. More oak, more Malo, more of everything really. Complex, layered and exceptional citrussy length. 2016 Cliff Block Pinot Noir. From vi...nes grown at the edge of the escarpment in shallow top soil, yielding smaller bunches of smaller berries. More whole-bunch fermentation, and more new oak. A darker and more savoury expression of Pinot Noir with texture and earthy complexity. 2016 River Block Shiraz. The dark horse that always impresses. 100 day post-ferment extended maceration, and 50 % new oak. Ripe blue and black berry fruit and soft mouth-filling tannins. Cool-climate shiraz at its most opulent.

Mandatory face masks presents a bit of a challenge for the classic wine tasting experience, but weve got a few ideas up our sleeve. Well make some changes in the coming weeks and cant wait to invite you back for a new type of wine tasting experience soon.

06.01.2022 Spring 2020 ~ Viticulture Chapter 3 ~ Biological farming This spring marks the third phase of viticulture at the Myrtle Point Vineyard, and the second phase under Lightfoot & Sons. When Rob and I returned home to take over the running of the vineyard and build the winery, we implemented changes across the entire management of the vineyard with a greater focus on sustainability and environment. This involved greatly reducing the use of herbicides, eliminating the use of bro...ad spectrum pesticides and using much softer fungicides. We did this in an effort to preserve and encourage healthier soils, healthier vines, quality grapes (and as follows, wines) as well as to promote beneficial insects in the vineyard to help us combat problem bugs. This 3rd phase sets us on a path known by some as the Biological Farming system. Biological Faming is all about promoting the soil food web, which in turn helps the vines. Devoting more time to feeding and nurturing all the bacteria, fungi, and critters that live in a healthy soil will lead to a stronger vine with tastier fruit and even tastier wine. This includes all sorts of management techniques from cover crops to compost, fish juice to fungal teas and lots in between. To enable this we have had to take the plunge on investing in new equipment, and commit to a long term strategy. Its a big commitment, but we are here for the long run, and so marks an exciting new chapter for us. Its taken a while to get this far, but we are proud of the changes we are making and we are full of optimism for the future of our vineyard and our land. We also hope these changes bring as much satisfaction to all the wine enthusiasts out there as it does to us here in the vineyard and in the winery. 02.01.2022 After a very difficult couple of weeks we are relieved that we can open the cellar door again. Our vineyard and winery have not been directly impacted by fire, but we are not out of the woods yet, and the devastation that has been wreaked throughout our region has been catastrophic. For the moment we are just grateful to be able to get back to work. The longer term challenge is going to be how we can help to get East Gippsland back on its feet again.
