13.01.2022 Lighthouse Disability staff recently celebrated a Luncheon for the finalists and winners of the Brenton Wright Awards. Brenton was Chair of the Board of Lighthouse Disability until his untimely death in November 2017, and was a very experienced leader in government, not for profit and profit organisations. He was a very intelligent man, quick witted and had a wonderful sense of the ridiculous - and he had a very strong value base which meant that he was committed to good out...comes for vulnerable people. These were the qualities that he brought to the role of Chair of Leveda and then Lighthouse Disability. He knew very well that our staff ARE our business and therefore had a deep interest in how we can value and build worker confidence and competence. Brenton’s partner Pam requested that donations in lieu of flowers at his funeral be sent to Lighthouse Disability. This led to the idea of creating an award in his name that acknowledges and values the outstanding contributions of staff. The Board has approved three annual awards in Brenton’s name for ‘Exceptional Good Practice’ and ‘Innovative Practice’ and ‘Exceptional & Innovative Practice Park Tce’. Brenton would be very pleased to know these awards are being presented in his name.

11.01.2022 Today we say farewell to our beloved CEO Marj Ellis, who is retiring after 7 years at the helm of Leveda / Lighthouse Disability. The sector and the organisation have changed significantly during Marj’s time as CEO and the Lighthouse Disability of today is vastly different from that which Marj joined in 2013. Marj has brought a strong values-based approach and a genuine commitment to meeting the needs of clients. She encouraged collaboration and innovation amongst staff and ...reached out to engage with clients and families. She contributed to sector initiatives that added value to our work and enhanced our reputation. Through her leadership and hard work, Marj achieved the significant cultural change that was necessary to make our transition to the NDIS such a success. In doing this she has gained admiration and respect from both the Lighthouse Disability Community and the disability sector at large. Marj will leave Lighthouse Disability having laid a strong foundation for its continued development. On behalf of all clients, families, staff and supporters, we express our gratitude to Marj for the enormous contribution she has made, and we wish her good health, happiness and fulfilment in her future.

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Lighthouse Disability Life Member Richard Bruggemann on being awarded the status of ‘SA State Senior Australian of the Year 2021’. On behalf of all clients, families, staff and supporters, we acknowledge Richard’s distinguished contributions to the disability sector during his career, and in particular to Lighthouse Disability. Many years ago, Richard worked closely with several parents to develop Leveda (now Lighthouse Disability) as an alternative to ins...titutional care for people with disabilities and has maintained an active interest in our organisation since this time, continuing to share his considerable expertise and experience with us. https://www.australianoftheyear.org.au//richard-brug/2273/
