17.01.2022 In 2017, my close friend and colleague Trish Prince and her daughter tragically lost their husband and father, Michael, at the young age of 45 to melanoma. Whilst Trish is a private person, she has chosen to share her story in the hope that by doing so, others will benefit from the lessons learnt and most importantly, take action to protect themselves and their families with personal insurances. I have worked alongside Trish as a financial planning peer for more than ten yea...rs and have witnessed on countless occasions her diligence, technical expertise and passion for helping her clients. Her father tragically lost a long battle with cancer when she was in her early 20s, during which she witnessed first-hand the financial stress and worries that come with not having insurances. This experience highlighted how being uninsured can impede on the ability to fight the health event itself. Little did any of us know, that the very things she was protecting her clients from, was about to be the very thing that she and her family would also now need protection from. 08.01.2022 Too big US Fed , way too big. Well done - scared the hell out of markets. We need a coordinated international effort here. The RBA will be making accouncements any day and expect more fiscal stimulus on a large scale - I suspect the kitchen sink might be thrown in for good measure. Good to see some stability back in our market this morning. Now is when leadership matters people .... dig deep and find patience, understanding and decency. Lets all take a collective deep breath... and take stock. Yes this is scary, yes this is going to change the way we live our lives in the months ahead - but lets remember the why. We must do the right thing to protect the vulnerable and do whatever it takes to help our medical teams cope with what is coming. A shout out to our nurses, doctors, Ambos, pharmacists and all medical professionals People are worried about their health, their cashflow, their businesses, their livelihoods. Sadly, there will be job losses and businesses will collapse - the government will do all that it can to soften the blow and allow us to bounce back on the other side is this. We will all need to sacrifice on some level. A bit of self care might help - this is going to be a marathon - not a sprint. Take time to turn off the negative news reel, read a book, go for a walk, do some cooking, prepare a household budget (sorry couldnt resist .... actually Im not even joking ) and try to think about what is within your control. Take comfort in the fact that we will all get through this - the one choice we have is how we choose to react and behave amongst this uncertainty. We can also choose what we will do differently on the other side. What really matters ? Make good choices and take care everyone.
