Sanjeev Sabhlok, who resigned last week, has condemned the policies implemented by Mr Andrews and warned they will unfairly punish the poorest communities in Victoria while holding back business investment, skilled migration, education and tourism. In an opinion piece written for the Australian Financial Review, Mr Sabhlok accuses Mr Andrews of being heavy handed in his response to the virus and likens it to the use of a sledgehammer to kill a swarm of flies. Mr Sabhlok who operates a blog largely dedicated to political and economic reform in India argues the restrictions in Victoria will signal to the world Australia is closed for business and doesnt care for human freedoms. He makes the argument that restrictions could never have been justified even if the coronavirus was to have proved as deadly as the Spanish flu. Victorias Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, is singled out for criticism over comments in which he said the coronavirus was the greatest public health challenge since the Spanish flu, with Mr Sabhlok rejecting any comparison. This is no Spanish flu, he writes. We can verify that easily. Mr Sabhlok writes that, for COVID-19 to be as proportionately deadly as the Spanish flu, which claimed 50 million lives when the global population was 1.8 billion, it would need to have killed 210 million people today. The study looked at 76 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 infection, that all had progressed to acute respiratory infection, confirmed by a radiographic pattern of viral pneumonia. (And at this late stage, doctors have thought it might be too late for HCQ + Zinc to be effective). Of 50 patients treated with HCQ + AZ + Vitamin D - only one required admission to the ICU (2%) and none died. However of 26 untreated patients (that didnt get the Vitamin D) 13 required admission to the ICU (50%) and 2 died. https://www.sciencedirect.com//artic/pii/S0960076020302764 This study indicates that if you had 100 sick COVID patients in hospital that had developed pneumonia - if you treated them with HCQ and boosted their Vitamin D levels, you might reduce admissions to the ICU from 50 patients to just 2. Yes,... the author is my husband Mr Brian Loughnane, but given he was the Federal Liberal Party Director from 2002 to 2015, and ran four election campaigns in that time for Hon John Howard and the Hon Tony Abbott, I reckon he knows what hes talking about. Labors been very effective in Victoria and other states like Queensland, in putting up a near benign character as their leader, at least in terms of public presentation, while ruthlessly using the apparatus of the public service and political offices to implement a strategy that most voters dont know about until it is too late. The Lefts agenda is deep and long-lasting. It seeps into every part of the citizens life and lives on, long after Labor is removed from power. I saw it in Canberra - after the Rudd-Gillard years - and the way Labor policy was dug so deep into the forward agenda that you needed a crow-bar to dig it out, not just a change of government. If this pandemic teaches us one thing, I only hope its that voters understand better that who they elect to run their state matters.
