15.01.2022 Behind the scenes at Just Cats Orphans and stray cats This time of year finds us travelling around rescuing orphaned kittens that stray cats have birthed in p...eoples gardens, under houses, sheds or barns. It’s always sad when mum cat takes off to hunt and in the mean time her kittens have been rescued without her - of course it’s important to collect them for a couple of reasons 1- she may not return 2 - she’ll take them somewhere else and now we have more stray cats roaming the streets Sometimes we can catch mum and reunite her with her babies but sadly most times this doesn’t happen So far over the last couple of weeks we have taken in 46 orphaned kittens and 6 mum cats with a combination of 19 kittens between them. And let us tell you that this is just the very start of kitten season Just this Saturday we had a call at 4.30pm regarding two kittens found at the back of a shed under some tin in Mayfield, mum cat had been spotted but not approachable - we collected the kittens and set a trap to catch mum. At 8.30pm the call came that mum cat was in the trap so off we went to collect mum. She’s young only maybe 7 months old, scared but understandable- she’s now reunited with her babies, safe, warm and no need to go hunting as she’ll have food served on tap At 11pm another call came in - 4 kittens found in the front yard at a property in Youngtown, mum cat had been spotted but again not approachable - we collected these new born kittens and set another trap to hopefully catch their mum. You can only image the work that goes into looking after neonatal kittens - these little ones need to be fed a bottle every 3 hours (including over night) Therefore last night was an all nighter for myself as I’m already feeding 10 orphans that are now 4 weeks old but their bottle is 4 hourly Foster carers are vital for our organisation and we are always searching for more to help with the load during kitten season, we do hands on training for neonates or you could help with older kittens or take on mum and bubs If you would like to know more about fostering for Just Cats please email us at [email protected] The four new borns have not been reunited with mum yet, however we are still trying. In the meantime they left today to join Naomi who is fostering them. It’s amazing what happens at Just Cats while most people are sleeping, our carers are up feeding and saving lives - of course we love it - it’s what we are here to do - but it’s tiring at the same time. If only we didn’t have so many stray cat’s left alone to defend for themselves. Let’s get them off the streets - if you know of a stray cat please call us to report them on 63889202 Please continued to donate to Just Cats - this helps us continue to fight for those less fortunate Via Credit Card or PayPal https://donation.giveeasy.org/just-cats-tasmania Via banking Just cats Bsb 037608 Act 579574 Reference orphans

07.01.2022 It’s that time of year, and just like us, sweet Mimi can’t believe school holidays and Christmas are just around the corner. Undoubtedly everyone is happy to have the freedom to travel again and bookings reflect a very busy holiday period. Over the next couple of weeks we will be in touch to reconfirm current bookings and at the same time, invoicing for your fur persons visit will be forwarded - payment is requested and appreciated BEFORE checkin via direct deposit, credit ...card payment over the phone or eftpos on dropoff to streamline the checkin and checkout process for everyone’s convenience. Importantly, please ensure all vaccinations are up to date and if flea treatment or worming is required (optional), may we recommend that this is administered at least one to two weeks before arrival as these treatments can on occasion upset tummies. If your fur person requires medicating while they are visiting, please provide us with clear written instructions. For highly anxious cats, we recommend Zylkene capsules 75mgs for cats - this is available from your vet or online at the Pet Chemist or Vet Shed. We suggest that Zylkene is started two or three days before bringing your fur baby into boarding as this will assist with any anxiety they may be feeling before coming into boarding. If your fur baby is extremely anxious we further recommend a supply of Zylkene is provided to last for the duration of their visit which we can administer daily in their food. The benefits of Zylkene can be researched online. Please note we continue to practice strict covid protocols and precautions including social distancing for everyone’s safety. Many thanks for your kind assistance in these matters to ensure an efficient and stress free process for all parties over a busy period. Please feel free to call and discuss any aspect of the above or otherwise

04.01.2022 A picture paints a thousand words... a few weeks ago Myles was looking for a new home through no fault of his - this afternoon his new family picked him up for the freedom ride... less than two hours after arriving home Myles is happily purring away surveying his new domain. I think it’s safe to say he’s found his forever people. Thankyou Margaret and Peter for your kindness. You are a very fortunate gentleman Myles
