20.01.2022 With a home more important than ever, we are ensuring greater certainty and security for residential tenants and landlords by extending the eviction moratorium until 28 March 2021. Under legislation introduced to Parliament this week, evictions would continue to be banned for residential tenancies, except in certain circumstances, until that date. Rental increases would continue to be banned for the same period.... These measures are effective state-wide, regardless of whether you rent in a Stage 3 or Stage 4 restricted area. 17.01.2022 We all know how much our pets mean to us especially these days. The good news is that the ongoing drop in virus case numbers means were on track to allow pet owners in metro Melbourne to drop off our pets to the groomers for contactless service from 28 Sept. This is similar to how vet clinics are already operating.

16.01.2022 The Deputy Chief Health Officer shared these scenarios yesterday but I just wanted to explain a bit more about why its so important. This modelling from the... University of Melbourne and University of New England shows whats likely to happen if we eased too quickly, with the numbers too high. It takes into account the data and current settings we have in place in Victoria things like case numbers, face coverings, and restrictions. If we removed the Stay at Home restrictions when daily case numbers were averaging 25, theres more than a 60 per cent chance wed be back in lockdown by Christmas. When the stakes are so high, its a risk we just cant take. The modelling also shows that if we drive daily numbers down to five before taking the next step that likelihood drops to just 3 per cent. I know everyone wants this over as soon as possible. So do I. But theres one thing worse than having restrictions in place and thats coming out too fast. Having two weeks of fun. Case numbers explode. And then youre straight back into lockdown. Yo-yoing in and out, with businesses opening and closing, is just about the worst scenario possible. All our sacrifices would count for nothing. And we simply cant allow that to happen.

15.01.2022 After significant storms overnight many homes and businesses have been left without power for a short period of time. 14.01.2022 Today I joined Steve McGhie MP and opened Western Water’s new biogas facility, which is turning liquid food waste into enough energy to power their recycled water plant. This will divert the equivalent of two Olympic sized swimming pools of food and organic material from landfill. The biogas facility will generate up to 1,000 megawatt hours of renewable electricity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 900 tonnes annually the equivalent of taking 300 cars off the road each ...year. More clean power. Reducing organics sent to landfill. Reducing emissions.

14.01.2022 Great news for households and small and medium businesses across Victoria with big savings to be made on energy bills next year. From January 1 the new Victorian Default Offer will see bills slashed by up to 14 per cent with average annual savings of $159 for households and $916 for businesses. And as part of our Energy Fairness Plan, we’re investing $797 million in the budget to help those struggling to pay their bills and make homes across the state more energy efficient. The VDO is a regulated fair priced option for customers who are unwilling or unable to engage in the energy market.

13.01.2022 Were asking people to stay home and save lives. But for some Victorians, home is the most dangerous place to be. Today we announced the expansion of the Orange... Door Network across the state. Five new hubs where Victorians who need support, can turn to and feel safe. A place that can change lives, and most importantly - save lives. My message to every Victorian is that help is there if you need it. There is never an excuse for violence. And fleeing family violence is always a reason to leave home - restrictions or not. If you see or hear someone being hurt or intimidated, call 000. Share these numbers with the people around you. And remember that family violence isnt always physical. You never know who might need help.

13.01.2022 For those still affected by power outages from Thursday nights storms, Ive been working with Ausnet and Im pleased to advise a dedicated hotline is now available to those experiencing extreme hardship. For those customers who have been without power since Thursday and who are likely to remain off past this evening, if you are feeling unsafe and are unsure of what to do I encourage you to reach out to A...usNet Services on 1300 561 171 to discuss your options. If you are not an Ausnet customer but you have been impacted by power outages and need relief support, you should contact your power distribution company, or your local council. Power companies have been working day and night to restore power to homes and businesses affected. More than 190,000 homes and businesses have now had their power restored. Unfortunately, there are still more than 6700 homes and businesses without power. Obviously today will be another challenging day with the forecast damaging winds across the state which has the potential for further outages. If a power outage impacts your health or safety, or the health or safety of someone you live with, DHHS has advised that you can travel to a friend or family members house

10.01.2022 I know the pause on non-urgent elective surgeries has meant an anxious wait for people. The term elective never really does justice to the changes a hip repl...acement or cataract removal can make to someones life. No-one wants a delay on these important operations but it was necessary while our hospitals dealt with the worst of the pandemic. Pleased to announce today that were able to lock in a staged timeline for getting surgeries back up and running. This means hospitals state-wide will return to 100 per cent of usual activity when Victoria reaches the Last Step of the roadmap planned for 23 November. In real terms, that accounts for around 18,750 additional elective surgeries across our private and public hospitals in October, and an extra 10,500 surgeries in November. Well also reinstate the elective surgery blitz to clear the backlog as soon as its safe to do so. And for people waiting on dental or allied health treatment restrictions for those services in metro Melbourne will ease during the Second Step, from the 28 September. That means non-urgent procedures including routine dental examinations, temporary fillings, simple extractions, preventive procedures, and dentures and orthodontic treatments can go ahead. Allied health professionals will be able to see patients face-to-face for a broader range of treatments such as pain management or supporting mobility. These steps are only possible because of Victorians efforts and sacrifices and success in driving the numbers down. So thank you.
