25.01.2022 What a week at U18 Basketball nationals! For the first time, Limitless Physio Steph got to work with both the mens and womens North Queesland teams. Their schedules, injuries, great questions and prehab kept me busy but thankfully some amazing JCU Physio students volunteered their time to make being in 2 places at once actually possible. Im sending a great big thank you to the superbly awesome 4 years I got to spend with a handful of the men on this team because I was lu...cky enough to experience their entire junior basketball nationals campaign. We have a gold medal, lots of memories and finally a roller - that you even know how to correctly use Not many people make me feel short, but hanging out with this crew definitely do The joke in Townsville is that I was hiding a basketball under my shirt. April 30th will be my last day as a Physio for a few months while I swap busy hats to play new Mom instead. Thanks to the teams, coaches, managers, parents and new friends for a great 2019 tournament!

19.01.2022 Liquid Gold is on sale Tuesday These are a few of my favourite things.... actually, this is just my favourite anything of 2018 For 90% of the population its doing things that my magical Physio skills cant improve like: ... stimulating the body to rebuild cartilage, that stuff between your joints that wears out forcing you to have a joint replacement Increases the bodys tendon, muscle and ligament flexibility that is sometimes (always!!!) referred to as old age My skepticism was huge because Liquid Gold sounded too good to be true so over 9 months: I read ALL the research I attended 5 conferences on the product I interviewed the inventor with hard Physio questions I drilled the Australian GM about the companys integrity I waited for others to get results and saw their improvements before trying it myself I made my Mom be my Guiana Pig End result - my Mom wont go off it, my Dad is takes it religiously & wont listen to anyone complain about pain because you can do something about that you know Side effects: 1 less wrinkles 2 thicker & fuller hair 3 decreased pain 4 healthier teeth & gums Leave me a gold emoji in the comments if you want to know more & see if this can help you.

14.01.2022 Working with athletes is one of my favourite things to do because they listen to what I say and actually want to get better. Unfortunately, mental health is MAJOR and super common. These injuries are something Physios directly see because of our frequent one:one relationship and until we do advanced training and specific courses, we arent skilled on how to handle the individual or the situation. Im loving the research lately into recognising this deficit in our training.

02.01.2022 Sprained ankle?? This has already been referred to as THE standout paper for 2018: how to manage ankle sprains. Your summary.... 1 Those most at risk: females in life (??) males during sport and people with low body weight.... 2 People with less ankle bend, poor balance when standing on one leg, high BMI, being tall or with cardiovascular disease are next likely to sprain their ankle. 3 Playing on natural grass rather than turf decreases your chances of a sprain. Your chances increase while playing a defending position. 4 40% of ankle sprains result in chronic ankle instability. Suspected to be due to poor knee and hip stability. Therefore, returning to sport and life is dependent on the individuals pain and workload. These factors need to be addressed and respected very early in rehab to prevent recurrences. 5 Physio assessment 4-5 days following injury is more specific at diagnosing the grade of ligament damage than ultrasound. XR following Ottawa Rules. MRI should be saved for persisting symptoms, suspicion of high-grade ligament injuries, osteochondral defects, syndesmotic injuries and occult fractures. 6 there is little scientific support to RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) your ankle injury: increased evidence indicates that the individual aspects of RICE are not effective, apart from cryotherapy [icing], if provided in combination with exercise therapy... there is no role for RICE alone in the treatment of acute ankle sprains. So if you are going to do anything, combine ice with your Physio homework. 7 Anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) delay the natural healing and should only be used for chronic ankle swelling. Tape or bracing can be used post injury but do not cast, immobilise the ankle or waste your time with compression bandages or tubi-grip. Semi-rigid or lace up braces providing functional support for 46 weeks is preferred over immobilisation or tape (due to potential skin irritation). 8 Manual therapy (your Physio moving your ankle joints) combined with exercise therapy results in better outcomes compared with exercise therapy alone. 9 Save surgery for chronic ankle instability. No effect on pain, oedema (swelling), function and return to play has been shown for ultrasound, laser therapy, electrotherapy and shortwave therapy in the treatment of acute lateral ankle sprains.
