22.01.2022 Today is the first day of the #16DaysInWA, the annual Stop Violence Against Women campaign. It will run from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, which is Human Rights Day. This years theme is 'Respect Starts with You'. Violence against women is never okay. We all have a responsibility to prevent violence, call it out when we see it and provide support to those affected.

21.01.2022 Over the past months, Frank Konecny Community Centre in Kwinana has been offering a new service to their community: the provision of emergency food relief. This was in response to a new and emerging community need as a result of COVID. Pictured: Kaye, Lesley, Anne and Jenny are just four of the many Frank Konecny ladies who volunteer their time each week to make hampers of essentials (and a treat or two) for locals in need.

20.01.2022 Frank Konecny Community Centre in the news for the amazing work of their senior volunteers in providing food parcels for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity locally. Prior to C19 the Centre had a free small pantry. Now they provide food for nearly 700 families a month in partnership with Foodbank WA and Second Bite. #LinkwestNetwork WACOSS

20.01.2022 Wonderful to have the Subiaco Post promoting this "four Centre" initiative, and many thanks to Ruth from Shine Communications for her work on making this impressive coverage happen. Ruth's top tip for 'selling' your story to the press: include a high-quality image that speaks directly to the topic of your media release. That's what got this Great Southern story over the line in a metro-based publication that specialises in their own local news.

20.01.2022 We are loving the art and creativity happening in some of our Centres at the moment. Creating beautiful places to welcome and entice people to come in and find out more. #linkwestnetwork #placemaking

18.01.2022 We're not long out of our very first fully virtual AGM, and we're calling it a success! A huge thanks to the 50+ members that tuned in, participated in our pre-meeting networking, and stayed on for our post-meeting Q&A. As ever, it is you - our members - that make what we do worthwhile, and bring that marvelous spark to our events and activities. It was also wonderful to see so many sporting orange for the occasion, which shows our solidarity as a sector for the 16 Days in WA campaign, which starts tomorrow and runs through until 10 December (Human Rights Day).

15.01.2022 As an organisation, Linkwest is very aware of the impact of social isolation in the community, especially in the context of the current pandemic. We want to do as much as we can to increase peoples digital literacy skills throughout Western Australia. We have partnered with the CWA of WA (Country Womens Association), Mens Sheds of WA and Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association in a bid to train up over 100 digital mentors across Western Australia who will in turn ...assist seniors in the community to become more digitally literate. The partnership has resulted in a $100,000 grant from Good Things Foundation Australia's Be Connected project, an Australian government initiative committed to increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians. https://www.linkwest.asn.au//partnership-to-encourage-seni

08.01.2022 Ewa wanted to share some of the photos taken during her Midwest trip. She really enjoyed documenting what she saw and she regretted that in some cases, the lack of time and / or the weather conditions were not conducive to taking more photos. If you would like a high resolution copy of any of the images, please email Ewa at [email protected] and she will be happy to send them to you.

08.01.2022 On Tuesday, the Linkwest board met face to face for the first time since February for a full day of planning. We also said goodbye to Kylie Hansen (bottom left), and Cheryle Brown (bottom right) after five and six years respectfully of contributing during a very busy and pivotal time in Linkwests 38 year history. Most significantly, during their tenure Linkwest and the AWACRC merged creating the Linkwest network of 150 community-led, place based organisations across WA. Thank you Kylie and Cheryle for your contributions to a stronger #LinkwestNetwork

08.01.2022 September 21 is the United Nations' (UN) International Day of Peace, which recognizes the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. While global peace is the vision, for all of us who are not diplomats or world leaders, achieving this vision can seem pretty much out of our control. But there are lots of things we CAN do on an individual and local level to make the world a little more peaceable: - Listen with the intent to understand... - Make a personal commitment to nonviolence - Invite a peace speaker to your event, workplace, and/or community - Organise a community project (clean up, plant a garden) - Attend a meditation or conflict resolution training - Say I am sorry - Create art in the theme of peace Here's to a more peaceable world!

04.01.2022 Victoria Park Community Centre is one of an increasing number of Centres offering the opportunity to keep things out of landfill by repairing, up-cycling and recycling. It's super short - just 30 minutes - so you can ask, share, connect, and quickly get back to your day. To register: https://www.linkwest.asn.au/events/event/MC-networking

02.01.2022 A very timely article in The Conversation today on mental illness prevention. This evening Jane C (Linkwest CEO) will be representing the Linkwest network at the Prevent Support Heal election platform launch. Our members play a significant role in the reduction of social isolation and loneliness which are known contributors to mental illness and increased during COVID-19. Our network needs to recognised and form part of a national and state mental illness prevention plan. The article states that - Local communities could also be mobilised to take positive action on local issues that contribute to poor health and mental health through place-based strategies. Place-based strategies aim to tackle issues existing at a neighbourhood level, such as social isolation and poor housing. #LinkwestNetwork #CommunityLedSolutions
