21.01.2022 Balter Brewing Company Hazy IPA (6.0% Abv) 375mL fresh out of @Liquorbarons ON THE HOPS vol.10 and only $18.99 4pk! This beer began life as Citrapalooza, a limited-release experimental brew that poured briefly in the Balter taproom. Demand for its return was high, so, after a few tweaks, the (more stylistically specific) Hazy IPA reappeared - as a limited-release in 500ml cans - in February last year; then again in November 2019. Finally, though, the Balter crew announced the Unlimited Edition release of Hazy IPA on September 3 - in 375ml cans, bringing those juicy mango, passionfruit and citrus characters to everyday drinking. 11.01.2022 In the lead up to Father's Day, we're introducing you to a few of the legendary West Aussie Dads that make our independently-owned co-op as local as it gets! Steve Perry has been working at the Swanbourne store since the late 90’s, and has been in the Perth liquor game since the early 80’s. For the past 7 years, his son Sam has been working with him at Swanbourne. When we asked Steve what the local community means to him, he said, "It’s the people. The local community is the ...people that I’ve known for 20 years. We’ve done every function for them whether it was their 18th, 21st, wedding, birth of their children, right through to their last days. We’ve covered quite a bit." We asked Steve who his fave customer is, "Oh gosh well it’s gotta be Richie the Plumber. He’s this marvellous man. He does things for people and they pay him with a carton of beer. When I had a problem with my hot water, he just comes and fixes it. Richie is the most kind-hearted soul who cares nothing for material wealth. He’s just a lovely, lovely bloke. He drinks Tooheys Old: it’s unusual no one drinks that anymore, but we keep it in the shop for him. When people come in and buy it we know it’s for Richie he’s done them a favour." We asked Steve what his hopes are for his kids, "You just hope that they’re good people. And that they’re happy. That’s pretty bloody cliché. But that’s it.' Unfortunately, craft-brewing’s grammar police questioned how a brew could be both ‘Black’ and ‘Pale’, and that argument seemed to obscure just how good the combination of dark malts and New World hops could be. South Australia’s Prancing Pony Brewery have wisely side-stepped such issues and delivered the interplay of dark chocolate and cacao malt characters and hints of citrus and spice, with a creamy mouthfeel and a firm, drying bitterness to finish.
