25.01.2022 This was how I travelled to work in July 2019. How things have changed!

25.01.2022 Thanks to all involved so far. Zoom PL has been fun!

24.01.2022 My Favourite Books - Day 4 - Book Week. 'Where the Forest Meets the Sea' by Jeannie Baker. My favourite 'persuasive text'. Such a wonderful work of art. Jeannie's unique textural collages inspire the artist in us all. Students love to create their own collages, using leaves, sticks, fabrics, feathers. Critical literacy class discussions weave through ideas of conservation, environment, connection with nature, the passage of time. This book teaches us of the power of words and images to make a difference in this world. It is the first text I use when introducing persuasive text investigations. #jeanniebaker #wheretheforestmeetsthesea

24.01.2022 Such a pleasure to have been a judge in this writing competition. I was inspired by the creativity, unique perspectives and voices of the 2020 entrants. Teachers - some great 'student voice' shared reading material here. Well done to all 3,000+ entrants. Congratulations to all winners.

23.01.2022 Just delivered my last Zoom teacher PD for 2020! Thank you to all participants, from Carlton North VIC, to Bees Creek NT, and everywhere in between! What a year! Next week, just some onsite PD and a few planning meetings before our summer holidays begin!

23.01.2022 We are in lock down again from midnight tonight. An extra week of winter school holidays. Most likely a return to online learning. Sending best wishes to Melbourne teachers, students and parents.

15.01.2022 Be kind to yourselves and have a laugh together.

14.01.2022 The joy of reading in The Bronx, NYC. Love it when children leap up in excitement! Happy International Literacy Day.

14.01.2022 Stuart Park Primary School teachers understand the importance of reading and writing connections.

13.01.2022 RIP to Sir Ken Robinson, an eloquent and indefatigable defender of the role of the arts and creativity in education. His TED talks made him world-famoushis pre...sentation called "Do schools kill creativity?" remains the most popular TED talk of all timeand he wrote widely, including major books on creativity in 2001 and 2015. Robinson was knighted in 2003 for his distinguished career in service to the arts. He was a staunch critic of standardized tests and compliance-based classrooms, and an unapologetic champion of every kind of creative endeavorfrom theater, to music, film, painting, dance, and everything in between. He died yesterday after a brief battle with cancer. His voice will be greatly missed.

11.01.2022 My Favourite Books - Day 5 - Book Week. 'Hunwick's Egg' by Mem Fox & Pamela Lofts. It took Mem Fox seven years to sculpt these 437 words. Pamela's superb illustrations bring the sweetness and wonder of Hunwick to life. This exquisite story invites readers to take what they need from it. I've seen children feel comforted, sad, encouraged, happy and hopeful after reading. There's always lots of deep discussion afterwards. I have read it aloud so many times, I almost know it off by heart. I sometimes spontaneously quote sections of the text. After tidying the house I sometimes say that I 'bustled about, making things cosy,' just like Hunwick. #hunwicksegg #memfox #pamelalofts #spoiltforchoice #cbca2020

10.01.2022 Wishing everyone a wonderfully creative week ahead.

09.01.2022 My Favourite Books - Day 6 - Book Week. 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. My first non-Australian favourite for the week. A simple, magical, feel-good story. Love it! The kids love it too. #lostandfound #oliverjeffers

09.01.2022 I am looking forward to an extended break from remote learning screen time. Best wishes to everyone. #thegardenstate #parksandgardens #backyardgarden

08.01.2022 Another day, writing and revising. Finishing date is fast approaching. Next step, copy editing.

08.01.2022 When will we come together like this again? Educators from around the world connected, sharing their knowledge and passion for literacy education. We had lots of fun too!

03.01.2022 My Favourite Books - Day 7 - Book Week. 'Herbert and Harry' by Pamela Allen. What is most valuable in life? A compelling question to discuss after reading this great book. Kids laugh, gasp and wonder, when I read this story to them. Powerful and entertaining. Love it! The kids love it too. #herbertandharry #pamelaallen

03.01.2022 When the squares and boxes disappear, we will see the full picture. New ways to improve the education system will then emerge.

02.01.2022 Happy spring (vernal) equinox! Today is the first day of astronomical spring in the southern hemisphere. Equal day and night. The weather warms and the days lengthen. A great time to plant seeds and set good intentions. Our ginkgo biloba tree always buds at the vernal equinox. #equinox #springequinox #vernalequinox #spring #springtime
