25.01.2022 'A Blue Embrace of Sorts' 1500x1500 more or less done!
24.01.2022 This canvas started off on the ground one winters morning at Lake Weyba looking up through dappled bush and beyond to the sky. Hung on to this feeling back in the studio as it chattered away to me. The canvas itself is very rough cotton linen, not my usual go to so I ended up with a somewhat raw, organic texture to the finished piece, fitting for where it began 2100 x 1050 to be framed. Available.
24.01.2022 La Balsa 1500 x 1500- a big painting with a big story that has totally captured my imagination and interest. Between 1966 and 1973 Spanish explorer Vital Alsar led three expeditions to cross the Pacific by raft, travelling from Ecuador to Australia. The first expedition failed, the second trip successfully landing in Mooloolaba, close to where I live, and the third trip consisting of four rafts landing in Ballina, northern NSW. The rafts were constructed from balsa wood l...ogs which were cut down in the jungles of Ecuador from female trees during the full moon when the sap content was at its optimum, thus ensuring its resistance to saturation by sea water. The aim was to prove that the Pacific Islands and indeed Australia could have been populated by migrations from South America well before the Spanish Conquistadors. This raft journey set the record for the longest known raft voyage in history - doubling the distance set by the famous Kontiki raft expedition in 1947. 04.01.2022 Announcing the MPN Online Charity Exhibition for which I have donated a Limited Edition framed print. Conceived by artist Lara Chapman, this art exhibition has the bold aim of raising awareness (and funds) for a little known rare group of blood cancers called Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs). There is no cure and very limited drug therapies. Laras goal is to raise funds to contribute toward a research project. Lara herself lives with Polycythaemia Vera, one of the MPN...s, and has founded a patient volunteer group known as MPN Alliance Australia, working independently under the umbrella of the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia. All works in this exhibition have been very generously donated by over 50 amazing local Australian artists, with 100% of money raised going directly to the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia.
