25.01.2022 We understand that many businesses will need to change the way they do things in order to remain sustainable during this period. Thats why our government has joined with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in launching a new business mentoring initiative to help small business owners navigate the challenges posed by coronavirus. The $10 million program will match small business owners and sole traders with experienced professionals who will help them to adapt thei...r businesses and strategies. Through this Business Recovery and Resilience Mentoring Program, mentors will provide mentees with guidance on reducing their business costs, managing cashflow, finding new customers and maximising the benefits of online sales and marketing.

24.01.2022 Some of our favourite Victorians have teamed up to remind us all - staying safe is in our hands. Our daily case numbers are promising, but until we have a vaccine, precautions like wearing a mask, physically distancing and being on the lookout for symptoms must continue to be part of our COVID Normal, for some time to come. I have no doubt that as Victorians, we can continue to follow the advice and work together to keep our communities safe.

23.01.2022 This week the massive state-wide clean-up effort following the devastating 2019-20 Victorian bushfires is officially complete, with 736 properties across East Gippsland and North East Victoria cleared of destroyed and damaged buildings. In total, the 2020 Clean-up Program demolished, cleared and disposed of more than 2,500 individual structures on 547 properties in East Gippsland Shire, 183 properties in Towong Shire and 5 properties in Alpine Shire. In total, 75,000 tonnes o...f bushfire waste was cleared the equivalent of over 20,000 Toyota Landcruisers. We said wed finish up by the end of August and I want to thank the hardworking crews who did such a great job to get us here. This has been a very tough year for so many across East Gippsland and North East Victoria. Families can now start rebuilding, and well continue to support them in every way we can through that process.

23.01.2022 The 2019-20 bushfires were the most extensive in living memory. The fires burnt over 1.5 million hectares, destroyed hundreds of properties, significantly affected local economies and tragically, took five lives. Bushfire recovery is a long journey but were here for the long haul. With urgent health and housing needs met, tens of millions in grants paid out, and the clean-up almost complete, Victorias State Recovery Plan helps bushfire-affected communities turn to the nex...t stage in their journey getting back on their feet, getting works underway and getting things done. As part of the Plan, were delivering 18 critical, region-wide projects to meet urgent environmental, economic and wellbeing needs right now, and a further $34.3 million for projects shaped and supported by local communities into the future. 22.01.2022 Coronavirus does not discriminate - even those who recover from the virus are left with long-term consequences, both physical and psychological. We need everyone to follow the health advice, play our part and stay safe.

22.01.2022 Spring has sprung and swooping has begun If you are venturing out, dont wing it here are some tips to avoid being swooped: - Know your local swooping hotspots and avoid them - Move quickly, but dont run... - Cover your head with a hat, helmet or umbrella - Consider drawing a pair of eyes on the back of your hat or helmet - Never harass or feed wildlife. To report a swooping incident by any species of bird, mark its location on Victorias swooping bird map by visiting www.wildlife.vic.gov.au/managing-wildlife/swooping-birds

22.01.2022 No one should have to fear losing their home in the middle of a pandemic. With home more important than ever, we are ensuring greater certainty and security for residential tenants and landlords by extending the eviction moratorium until 28 March 2021. Under legislation introduced to Parliament last week, evictions would continue to be banned for residential tenancies, except in certain circumstances, until that date. Rental increases would continue to be banned for the same... period. Were also expanding the eligibility criteria for our rent relief grants so more tenants can access support. The savings threshold will double, from $5,000 to $10,000 ensuring families have a bit more left over to cover the essentials, and those big costs that come at the end of the year.

21.01.2022 The past 24 hours have demonstrated, once again, the tremendous work of our Victorian emergency service volunteers. As part of our Governments ongoing commitment to the emergency services, we are providing $14 million for the latest round of the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP). Volunteer emergency service groups have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $150,000 to help buy operational equipment and fund minor facility upgrades.... Applications are now open - head to the website to find out more: emv.vic.gov.au/vesep

21.01.2022 To help renters during this difficult time, we are extending our ban on evictions and rental increases until the end of the year. We are also increasing available assistance, and ensuring tenant turnover is taken into account in rental negotiations giving tenants certainty and security they wont lose their home during the pandemic. Eligible residential tenants and landlords will be supported with up to $3,000 in rental payments as part of the Rental Relief Grant program, ...with new recipients able to apply for the full amount, and up to $1,000 extra available for previous recipients. Visit www.housing.vic.gov.au/help-renting/rentrelief for more information and to access support.

21.01.2022 Great news for Geelong and the Bellarine - from 11:59pm tomorrow, regional Victoria will progress to the Third Step of our reopening roadmap. This will mean more time can be spent with family and friends, more businesses can re-open their doors and we can all get back to doing some of the things we love in regional Victoria cautiously and safely. We wouldnt be in this position without the hard work and sacrifices of everyone in our local community and I thank you for doing... your part to follow the rules and stay safe. This big step forward today means our strategy is working but we cant afford to become complacent. There are still rules and restrictions in place in and we still need to follow them, to make sure we can keep these numbers low and keep on the path towards COVID normal. To see all the changes happening in regional Victoria from tomorrow night, visit: vic.gov.au/roadmap

20.01.2022 Important coronavirus update:

20.01.2022 Our Budget will help more people explore the state, with up to 120,000 vouchers each worth $200 available to entice more people to visit and stay in regional Victoria. As part of our $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package, Victorians will be able to apply for the vouchers as long as they spend at least $400 on accommodation, attractions or tours in regional Victoria. The scheme is expected to be up and running in December, ensuring the benefits are felt this summer when businesses need it most.

20.01.2022 Two local sporting reserves are receiving lighting upgrades as part of our governments Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program This investment will help grassroots sporting communities get back in the game when the time is right. St Leonards Lake Reserve will be having new lights installed, while Newcombs Grinter Reserve will see an upgrade of their current lighting system.... Not only will these lights make a world of difference in lighting up nighttime matches and training, but these projects will employ local workers and use local materials.

19.01.2022 We’re transforming support for students with a disability in Victorian government schools - to ensure that every student at every ability can thrive. Our Disability Inclusion package will double the number of students receiving extra support in the classroom to 55,000, and is expected to create up to 1,730 jobs across the state by 2025. All schools will benefit from the change, enabling them to better support students who may have previously been ineligible for targeted suppo...rt such as those with autism, dyslexia or complex behaviours. New facilitator roles will be established to help schools and families work together through this new approach. Facilitators will bring their expertise and knowledge into classrooms to support students and schools which will be critical in this transition. This new approach puts the needs of the student at the heart of our response shifting away from current practices and focusing on what a child can achieve, rather than what they can’t.

19.01.2022 This couldnt be clearer:

Over the last year throughout bushfires, severe storms and a global pandemic weve seen the incredible work that our emergency services do to serve and support their communities. We thank them today and every day.

17.01.2022 Were helping more people buy their dream home, with thousands of first home buyers spared millions of dollars in stamp duty costs over the past financial year In Greater Geelong, almost 2,000 homebuyers either had their stamp duty fees waived or received a concession, resulting in a total saving of close to $31 million. 16.01.2022 Today is Early Childhood Educators Day, a day where we celebrate these educators outstanding work. 15.01.2022 We’re investing $2 million to deliver faster services between Geelong and Melbourne’s CBD Australia’s first faster rail corridor between Melbourne and Geelong will strip 15 minutes off the travel time and mean a congestion free commute to and from Melbourne’s CBD. This investment means less time commuting, and more time doing what you love. It's a great win for our Greater Geelong region.

15.01.2022 While its encouraging to see that daily case numbers are beginning to stabilise, we have seen a concerning drop-off in testing rates in recent days. Victorians have worked incredibly hard to follow the rules and drive community transmission numbers down we cant let all that effort go to waste by letting our guard down now. If you are experiencing any of the below symptoms, please get tested.... For more information on where you can get tested, head to: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/where-get-tested-covid-19

15.01.2022 We’re delivering clean, sustainable public transport to keep Victorians moving, with a trial of zero-emission buses to start in the coming months. Our Budget will invest $20 million in a statewide trial to investigate solutions to achieve a zero-emission bus fleet and create a pipeline of local job opportunities. The Zero Emissions Bus Trial will run over three years, trialling different technologies on buses right across the state.... The trial will drive the local development of skills and innovation, whilst also contributing to regional economies where some existing manufacturers are already established.

13.01.2022 We’ve announced a $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package to help the sector bounce back after a year of bushfires and necessary health restrictions. It includes infrastructure upgrades, events funding, vouchers and advertisements and it'll make holidaying at home easier and cheaper for families too. Almost $300 million will go towards building and upgrading attractions across the state, including the Grampians, High Country, Gippsland, Great Ocean Road, King Valle...y and more so that every corner has an attraction to be proud of. Over $20 million will be spent bringing big events to small communities too, supporting the existing festivals and events that've been hardest hit by this pandemic. We're also helping local Aboriginal groups share their stories and history too, with funding to help attract tourists to cultural sites and events. This is fantastic news to regional communities, and will provide a real incentive for Victorians to travel within our regions.

13.01.2022 To help Victorian households, were rolling out a team of financial counsellors and community workers to give targeted advice and support to those who need help with their energy bills. Debt to energy companies is one of the top three most common sources of financial difficulty raised with financial counsellors and, with many Victorians seeing high bills this winter, its vital that support can be accessed. To speak to a financial counsellor for advice call 1800 830 029.

13.01.2022 We’re replacing the St Leonards/Indented Head Fire Brigade station with a $2.2 million funding boost as part of our Fire Services Reform. The facilities at St Leonards will be rebuilt to provide better spaces for volunteers and adequate space to accomodate their vehicles and emergency appliances. Our CFA volunteers work tirelessly to protect their communities, so it’s important that they have the facilities they need to support the fire response. ... St Leonards Station is one of 16 being replaced under the $126 million CFA capability funding to meet the demands of growing townships and emerging weather threats well into the future. I congratulate and thank the St Leonards CFA, under the leadership of Captain Niki Habibis, for their ongoing commitment in protecting their community and surrounding region.

13.01.2022 Thanks to the enormous efforts of Victorians, from midnight tonight, regional Victoria will move from Stage Three restrictions to the Second Step of the roadmap. This means that up to five people can gather together in outdoor public places from a maximum of two households. Social bubbles will begin, allowing those living alone or single parents to have one other person in their home. ... Outdoor pools and playgrounds in regional Victoria will open. And religious services can be conducted outside with a maximum of five people, plus a faith leader. Given the progress regional Victoria has made in lowering case numbers, we will continue to closely monitor the 14-day rolling average - which currently sits at 4.1 for regional communities. If this effort continues, regional Victorians could move to the Third Step in a matter of days. More information can be found on our Coronavirus Roadmap to Reopening website: www.vic.gov.au/roadmap.

13.01.2022 Melbourne Legacy tin rattlers arent able to hit the streets this year, but the 4,700 families of veterans that Melbourne Legacy current support still need our help. I know many Victorians are doing it tough right now, but if you can give to the appeal please do so through a digital donation or online purchase. The program will give our kids the opportunity to learn from some of our state’s top creative talent while supporting some of those hit hardest by the pandemic to get back into the workforce.

11.01.2022 Last nights damaging storms saw the Victoria State Emergency Service - supported by Victoria Police, Fire Rescue Victoria and CFA (Country Fire Authority) - responding to over 2,000 calls for assistance. They did an incredible job assisting right across the state, and I want to thank them for all their efforts helping the community when they need it most. Tragically, three people, including a four-year old boy, lost their lives as a result of fallings trees. I send my deepest condolences and prayers to their loved ones during this devastating time. Many communities - especially in bushfire affected areas - are currently impacted by power loss at the moment and we are working with them to provide assistance wherever we can.

10.01.2022 This is a really difficult time for young people trying to enter the workforce - thats why were supporting 300 young Victorians to enter into apprenticeships and traineeships as part of our $500 million Working for Victoria Fund. The new apprentices and trainees, aged 15 - 24, will be placed with public sector employers across the state, in workplaces such as government departments and agencies, local councils, hospitals, schools, TAFEs and water authorities. Jobseekers, including those interested in the apprenticeships and the traineeships initiative, can register for Working for Victoria at vic.gov.au/workingforvictoria

10.01.2022 Modelling from the University of Melbourne and University of New England shows whats likely to happen if we eased too quickly, with the numbers too high. It takes into account the data and current settings we have in place in Victoria things like case numbers, face coverings, and restrictions. If we removed the Stay at Home restrictions when daily case numbers were averaging 25, theres more than a 60 per cent chance that wed be back in lockdown by Christmas.... When the stakes are so high, its a risk we just cant take. The modelling also shows that if we drive daily numbers down to five before taking the next step that likelihood drops to just 3 per cent. We all want this to be over and for things to go back to normal. But no matter how much we want this, its not the reality were currently facing. By waiting to open up were increasing the chance that our communities will be able to stay open, which is what we all want.

09.01.2022 Our household energy efficiency package will invest $191 million into expanding our Solar Homes program This will provide 42,000 additional solar rebates, meaning a total of 140,000 households will be able to install solar panels on their roof at no upfront cost over the next two years. Victorians in every corner of the state will also be able to apply for a Solar Homes battery - with 17,500 household battery rebates available over the next three years. We’re putting power back in your hands saving money, reducing emissions and creating thousands of jobs at the same time.

09.01.2022 The Andrews Labor Government is investing $990,000 in the Barwon Heads 13th Beach Surf Life Saving Club to improve it’s infrastructure and facilities This upgrade will deliver an extension to the facility to include a new second storey to accommodate a new larger training space, extra toilets, additional storage and a small kitchenette. We’re committed to backing our local volunteers and ensuring that they have the quality facilities they need to continue their great wor...k in keeping our community safe. The project is one of 125 projects sharing in $20 million in funding under the Emergency Services Refurbishment Fund, as part of our government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package. I congratulate the entire club, especially President Andrew McKinnon and Property Officer Nathan Maher, for their untiring efforts on this project.

09.01.2022 The Bellarine Peninsula is lucky to have active volunteers and not-for-profit organisations who passionately dedicate their time to protecting our beautiful coastline. Through the Coastcare Victoria Community Grants Program, the Andrews Labor Government will help three of these local groups care for our coast. The recipients of these grants are: Ocean Grove Coastcare - this grant will help them, alongside Barwon Coast Committee of Management and COGG, address the over-represe...ntation of cigarette butts on Ocean Grove beaches though the installation of cigarette butt bins, and community awareness activities. BirdLife Australia - they will use this grant to help raise awareness of shorebirds and their habitat, and gather necessary information to help conserve shorebirds across Victoria. Bellarine Catchment Network - this grant will help them expand and diversify their volunteer base and increase engagement. Congratulations to all recipients, these initiatives will no doubt make a positive impact on our seaside communities.

08.01.2022 We know this is a particularly tough time to be completing your final years of high school - thats why were providing additional support to help students with their VET studies. Schools will be able to access additional funding for things like student transport and extra material costs, thanks to a new $2.4 million VET catch-up fund.

08.01.2022 Those living by themselves have had it particularly tough these past few months. Starting next week, single people living on their own and solo parents will be able to nominate one friend or family member for their bubble and that person can visit them at home. Its important to note that rules regarding the 1.5m distancing and masks must continue to be followed by both members inside the bubble.... Hopefully, this new change will make the next little while easier for members of our community.

08.01.2022 Im delighted to announce that 12 kindergarten services in the Bellarine will receive funding to purchase essential IT equipment to support and improve their learning environment. 06.01.2022 Yesterday, our government released a series of measured steps that will guide our roadmap for reopening. By moving from stages to steps, were giving Victorians a long-term plan for our path out of restrictions and into COVID Normal. Due to regional Victorias comparatively low case numbers, we will be able to jump to the Second Step of reopening.... From 11:59pm on 13 September, this Second Step of reopening means that the following changes will me made to regional Victorias current restrictions: - Up to five people will be able to gather together in outdoor public places the park, the beach from up to a maximum of two households. By limiting it to two households, were again limiting the viruss ability to spread. - Bubbles can be created for people living alone and single parents. Bubbles allow these individuals to nominate a friend or family member that can visit them in their home. - Outdoor pools and playgrounds in regional Victoria will open. - Religious services will be able to be conducted outside with a maximum of five people, plus a faith leader. Additionally, in regional Victoria all school students will return to onsite learning between 12 and 16 October. I understand that there will be some people who will be disappointed, those who wanted more and sooner. But these are the steady and sustainable steps that our health experts tell us will see us out of this safely. Weve all come too far, given too much, to see it wasted. More information can be found on our Coronavirus Roadmap to Reopening website: www.vic.gov.au/roadmap.

04.01.2022 Our government is taking the first step in tackling insecure work. Too often, workers are being forced to choose between a day’s pay and their health and the health of every Victorian. Over the past eight months, we’ve seen just how dangerous, and unfair, that can be. That’s why our government will do what no other government has develop a new Secure Work Pilot Scheme, to provide up to five days of sick and carer’s pay at the national minimum wage for casual or insecure w...orkers in priority industries. Once up and running, the two-year pilot will afford these workers sick pay when they’re unwell, and carer’s pay when they need to take time to look after someone they love. Importantly, it will mean Victorians aren’t being forced to choose between the safety of their co-workers and putting food on the table for their family. This isn’t going to solve the problem of insecure work overnight - but it's a significant step in the right direction, and one I’m proud our government is taking.

02.01.2022 Our Victoria State Emergency Service volunteers have had an incredibly busy 24 hours, responding to 386 calls for assistance - 300 of those were for fallen trees and 46 for building damage. As always, I thank them for their great efforts keeping the community safe. With strong winds forecast across the state - especially in the East - throughout today, were urging Victorians to be safe, stay indoors where possible, be careful driving and continue to monitor weather warnings here: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV21037.shtml

02.01.2022 A massive new support package will see $3 billion in cash grants, tax relief and cashflow support delivered to Victorian businesses as we work together to drive coronavirus cases down and progress along our roadmap to COVID Normal. Were giving over $1.1 billion in cash grants to support small and medium sized businesses that are most affected by coronavirus restrictions -including $822 million as part of the third round of the Business Support Fund. Around 75,000 eligible bu...sinesses with payrolls up to $10 million will receive grants of $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 depending on their size. To support our bars, restaurants, pubs, clubs, hotels and reception centres, the Government will establish a $251 million dedicated Licenced Venue Fund, with grants of between $10,000 and $30,000 for licenced venues. Were also waiving liquor licence fees for 2021. Were giving businesses in our alpine resorts the support they need with with grants of up to $20,000 to help cover their resort fees, saving them a combined $4.3 million. To provide a $1.7 billion cashflow boost for businesses, we are deferring payroll tax for businesses with payrolls up to $10 million for the full 2020-21 financial year. Were also launching a $15.7 million export recovery package to address logistics and supply chain issues caused by the pandemic, and establish new export channels. Businesses will be connected to international markets through virtual trade missions as well as assistance to adapt their export strategies to respond to the rapidly changing global market. Additional details about support for businesses can be found at: www.business.vic.gov.au.

02.01.2022 The stability and security of home is more important than ever for Victorians. However, for some people in our community, being at home is anything but safe right now. If you are experiencing family violence, help is available. You can leave your home during curfew, and you can travel more than 5km you will not be fined.... If you are stopped by police, let them know that you are escaping family violence. For help and support, contact safe steps 24/7 on 1800 015 188, email [email protected] or webchat Mon-Fri, 9am to 9pm at safesteps.org.au/chat Anyone concerned about their own behaviour can contact the Mens Referral Service on 1300 766 491. In an emergency, call 000.

02.01.2022 The Victorian Government is ensuring regional road projects remain on track, to support jobs and deliver the projects Victorians need. This week, Regional Roads Victoria are preparing parts of Murradoc Road for sealing. In light of this, if youre using Murradoc Road this week make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go.

02.01.2022 From 11:59pm tonight, significant changes will be made to our state's restrictions. These changes would not be possible without the extraordinary efforts of Victorians. Now it’s time to enjoy the warmer weather and celebrate what we’ve been able to achieve as a state. From 11:59pm tonight: The number of visitors to your home will increase from two to 15 per day. That can be split across different times ten for lunch, and five for dinner as long as people are sticking ...to a total of 15. Outdoor gatherings in a public place the park, the beach will increase to 50. For those couples who’ve had to delay their special day, weddings will increase to 150 people. The same number will apply to funerals and religious ceremonies indoors. For smaller hospitality venues, the density limit will change to one person for every two square metres up to 50 customers. QR code record keeping will be mandatory. For bigger venues, the density limit will stay the same, but the cap will increase to 150. Total venue capacity will also rise to 300. Cinemas, galleries and museums will also be able to host up to 150 people indoors. And in good news for community clubs, contact and non-contact sports can begin for adults as well as kids 150 people indoors with a group size of up to 20 and 500 outdoors with groups of up to 50. We’re also able to begin a phased approach for staff heading back to the office. From 30 November, up to 25 per cent of workers will be able to attend onsite. To be clear though unless you’re one of those people nominated by your employer you need to keep working from home. We're also making some changes to the rules around masks. You’ll still need to wear one when you’re indoors and on public transport and where you can’t keep your distance. But if you’re outdoors and you can keep a safe distance, masks will no longer be mandatory.

02.01.2022 Today marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War 2, when Victory in the Pacific was declared. We remember and honour all those who fought for our country and we thank them for their service and sacrifice today, and every day.
