20.01.2022 Spring has sprung! The children and I have begun a gardening project of planting sunflowers, caring for and watching how they grow. Gardening in early childhood has many benefits for children including:... Developing Children’s gross/ fine motor skills. Encouraging Children’s awareness of sustainability and caring for the natural environment. Exploring scientific concepts in relation to gardening. Facilitating a sense of ownership as each child cares for their own individual flower. We can’t wait for our sunflower seeds to start sprouting! Stay tuned for an update!

19.01.2022 This week we revisited our dental hygiene interest following dental hygiene week last week. We discussed ways to care for our teeth as well as participating in a tooth brushing activity on the white board. Today we then extended on this by using the yoghurt lids as teeth and brushing off the marker pen with shaving foam as toothpaste that represented the plaque/and germs. It was such a hit!

08.01.2022 Following on from last weeks sunflower gardening experience all this week the children have been checking and watering their flower pots. Noticing the seedlings sprouting. This invitation to play garden set up is an extension on our gardening interest. Adding sensory materials including gum leaves, lavender, stones, loose tea leaves and play dough. The children loved exploring the different textures and smells of the lavender/ tea leaves and had fun creating their own play dough masterpieces.
