25.01.2022 Oddball sale! I carved these three during my lessons, so while my attention was elsewhere they all turned out a little funny in some way or other. I love them all, I think they're great. The two on the left are birch and the right is spotted gum.... $30 AU each + postage or local Pickup (half price!) Going individually or together to the first comment or DM to claim. 24.01.2022 Some blanks going out today - half a dozen each of spoons and spreaders in a variety of shapes. I enjoy it when folks leave it up to me what shapes they get with their blank orders. I like to look at each bit of wood I get and see how inspiration strikes. These are all straight off the axe. It's much easier to learn to carve a functional and aesthetic spoon when the tricky bit (design and geometry) has had the foundations already set. You can take that and use it to design an...d axe out your own spoons. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #spooncarving #sloyd #slöjd #handmade #greenwoodworking #spoonblank #spoonblanks #greenwoodspoonblanks #handtoolsonly #handmadeinMelbourne See more
23.01.2022 These all came from the same plum log. Beautiful wood. They're all available if one catches your eye. I'm taking bookings at the moment for online/ zoom greenwood carving lessons - for all skill levels, beginners included. Sign up, pay a small deposit, I'll post you a blank and we'll arrange a time to go through whatever you'd like to learn! . .... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #spooncarving #sloyd #slöjd #handmade #greenwoodworking #treen #spoon #woodenspoon #handmadeinMelbourne #handtoolsonly #greenwood #carltonnorth #ladle #cawlspoon See more
22.01.2022 https://youtu.be/Caf_N-UoQSk New video! This one has been in the works for a while - hope you find it interesting / relaxing / helpful.
21.01.2022 I really enjoyed rescuing this Disston D8 for myself to use - hope you enjoy the video.
20.01.2022 https://youtu.be/Caf_N-UoQSk I've been promising for a while to make a video on how I make my forks. Here it is! Hope you find it useful. The four on the left are the ones we use in my household, ans the one on the right I carved for the video, so definitely check that out if you'd like to see the process.... Left to right, it's plum, black locust (x2), plum, and nectarine. I have a couple of nectarine crooks in my freezer if anyone wants to commission a fork or two. The fork from the video is also available for $60 AUD, dm me or comment if interested. Which one is your favourite? You can see the video via the link above, or my channel link is in my bio. You could also subscribe to my youtube channel if you'd like to be notified of my future uploads :~) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #greenwoodworking #treen #woodenfork #woodenware #madeinmelbourne #shopsmall #handtoolsonly #handmadeinMelbourne #sloyd #slöjd
12.01.2022 Some low-key facets on this beautiful plum wood. I only have a little fruit wood left, it's all nectarine crooks that I plan to make into forks. Look out for a fork carving video soon, I've got a few tricks to share. YouTube channel link in bio, subscribe (if you like) so you don't miss my uploads. . .... . . . . . . . . . . . . #spooncarving #sloyd #slöjd #handmade #greenwoodworking #treen #spoon #woodenspoon #handmadeinMelbourne #handtoolsonly #greenwood #carltonnorth See more
12.01.2022 Some different angles. I had my first zoom lesson with a student today, big thanks to them and to others who are waiting for their tools to arrive. You can sign-up through the form on my website, link in bio, and my tool buying guide explains everything you need and where you can get it from. I'm happy to say the lesson went very well, and although it's a bit odd compared to my usual workshops, I was able to teach all the same content without a problem. And, as always, it's ...great to have a 2hr yarn with someone while we carve a spoon. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #spooncarving #spooncarvinglessons #greenwoodworking #treen #spoon #woodenspoon #handmadeinMelbourne #carveaspoon #handtoolsonly @ Carlton North, Victoria, Australia See more
10.01.2022 Here's a short clip from my Disston D8 restoration. Watch the full video on my channel, link in bio. I got this saw in very rough condition so I'm pleased with how it turned out - it's now a great user and as good a ripsaw as I could have hoped for. What do you think of this more traditional handtool woodworking content mixed in to my greenwoodworking and spooncarving? ... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #traditionalwoodworking #disston #d8 #disstond8 #antiquetools #handtoolsonly #handmadeinMelbourne #melbournemaker #handsaw #woodworkingwithhandtools #handtools #traditionaltools See more
09.01.2022 Here's a supercut of my fork carving video, I did my best to fit all the steps into just one minute. What do you think? Should I make these condensed versions to post on here? 08.01.2022 I enjoyed doing this commission for a pair of dinner forks in nectarine wood. These came from the same bent branch, one from the heartwood and one from the sapwood. I kept it simple on the decoration, as I prefer to do. See my previous post for the fork carving process, if you're curious, and head over and subscribe to my channel on youtube for the full videos. I've got lots of ideas for interesting videos - just waiting on the time for filming them.... Wooden forks don't have to be crude or bulky - these are light and thin, and work very well. I have a similar one available for sale if you'd like to take my word for it and try one out :~) Check my story highlights. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #slöjd #handmade #greenwoodworking #treen #woodenfork #woodenware #madeinmelbourne #shopsmall #fitzroynorth #carltonnorth #sloyd
06.01.2022 Here's a short from my new video on weaving sloyd knife sheaths from poplar shavings. Using the wooden jointer is always super fun. 05.01.2022 Hi everyone! I've been taking a little break from social media, and from carving all the time. There is also some 24/7 construction where I live, which (plus lockdown) means I can't film any videos. I've got lots of ideas for helpful videos and I'm always wanting to hear more.... Anyway, here's a kuksa I made recently, and it's the first time I'm posting the finished result. I'm very happy with it, it's my best yet. It's knife finished birch, with milk paint over facets, and a subtle undercut and upswept handle. It's available! I quietly updated my store a little while ago so there's a bunch of beautiful new spoons as well, if you'd like to have a look. I'm also still taking bookings for online, zoom video lessons. Thanks to the people who have signed up! You're helping to support me while my workshops and markets, and in person lessons, are cancelled. Go to the workshops page on my site to learn more. 03.01.2022 This cawl spoon in plum wood is going to be the inspiration for one of @thespooncrank flexible templates, alongside my simple eating spoon design. I don't use templates myself, but I understand their value as a learning tool. If you've seen a lot of traditional cawl spoons, you'll notice that mine are a little different. I play with the form in my own way. The real magic is in the side profile, as with all my spoons. I've talked about it a lot but let me reiterate my love for... cawl spoons. I use mine daily, they're perfect for all kinds of broths and soups. I also prefer them to Japanese ramen spoons for ramen /noodle soups - the function is the same but I just don't like the form of those. This spoon is available, or you can stay tuned and wait for the template for carving your own. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #welshspoon #spooncarving #sloyd #slöjd #handmade #greenwoodworking #treen #spoon #woodenspoon #woodenware #madeinmelbourne #handmadeinMelbourne #handtoolsonly #knifefinish #thespooncrank
