24.01.2022 The boutique Air Bee n Bees are coming along nicely. Each are one of a kind artworks, creating a special focal point that also serves as nesting habitat for our very special native bees. They seem to be selling quicker than I can make them currently. The frames are built by local retirees (aka papa bear) and painted by a local artist (aka mama bear) (this piece is called "Little Lost Cabin") and inserts cut, drilled and arranged by me, making this venture a true family run sm...all business. We are doing out best to keep pace with the orders coming in but if you're thinking of one as a Christmas gift, get in early rather than later. 22.01.2022 Today is International Rural Women's Day, recognising the women who take on key roles in agriculture despite the challenges. My shout out is to the thousands upon thousands of female worker bees doing what native bees do, day in and out, without any fanfare. 20.01.2022 The leafcutter bee (Megachile sp) is responsible for those most perfect circular (or semi circular) leaf snips from your rose leaves (or stone fruit, crepe myrtle, and other soft leaves). She lines her nest with them, like a baby blanket, so it's nice and cosy, provisions it, then lays her eggs (female eggs first). She now has her very own specially designed bee hotel (scroll to the right) made by local retirees, and painted by artist Rosie Talbot. All of these pieces are a o...ne-off, the artwork is stunning, and never to be repeated, making these quite a showstopping and rare garden feature. More pics of other pieces coming soon. 20.01.2022 Tomorrow, Saturday 28th November, I'll be co- hosting a "Bringing Native Bees to your Garden" half day workshop @tullamore_farm_beaudesert 830-1pm. Little Bee's Secret Garden WILL BE open as I am lucky enough to have Mama Bee and Nephew Bee holding the fort in the garden. Nephew Bee (Daniel) can work the technology, Mama Bee (Rosie) can work the chat . So lucky to have a hive of support . Feel free to stop in and say hi.

17.01.2022 So much fun visiting these mini beekeepers-in-training. Kids are so engaged and enthusiastic, it really warms my heart and fills me with hope. You might be wondering why I'm wearing a head net... stingless bees are just that... Stingless.. But truth is, it can be hard to talk when they go in your mouth and ears and nose and eyes because they can get upset and bite those sensitive spots if you open their hive up! Understandably. Luckily these girls were super chilled out and not fussed at all, so the head net came off. Thanks Twin Towns Kindy for having me.

For those that have been to a previous workshop, I hope that the fact you got to taste the liquid gold nectar of the stingless bees has stayed a secret . 06.01.2022 Okay so here is the akubra that I mentioned a couple of days ago, with thanks to Backroads Beaudesert and @akubraofficial If you're in the garden, you'll be needing a good hat this summer. Next Saturday is a half day+ in the outdoors talking native bees and gardens @tullamore_farm_beaudesert (Oct 24 930am start, $65pp) so a hat is an essential piece of work gear. Hats ready, we are good to go. The info covered in the AM includes stingless bees, their social structure, their foraging behaviour, floral resources, how to caretake/propagate hives, what to look for when buying hives, their honey, and more. Info in the PM includes our most commonly seen solitary bees, their varied habitats, and how to provide nesting habitat and floral resources to encourage them into your garden. 02.01.2022 Seed bombs are an ancient technique of dispersing seed across large areas. Once dry the hard clay protects the seed from rodents and birds, but gradually breaks down to expose it to sunlight and moisture, which initiate germination. They're fun and easy for little hands (and big) to make.
