24.01.2022 Good morning! Does everyone remember our blog post about the danger of Wi-Fi and other wireless technologies, and how suseptable children are to it? Well ABC's Catalyst program has finally released the episode they were preparing for when we first attended Dr Davis's lecture at UNSW. Of course technology is going to continue to be such a big part of our lives and especially those of the younger generation so it's vital that we be aware of things like this so we can support the development of safer technologies for the future. Please remember to hit that "like" button so we know you enjoy our posts!

23.01.2022 Good morning Birdies! Some thought-provoking ideas in this for you. It's well known that the younger years are the most important, and this is one of those, if not the only reason why. Remember to like our posts if you do! We'll need all the love we can get being so far away from Sydney at the moment :)

22.01.2022 Good evening fledgelings! Some important information regarding schooling. A STEM head start for thousands of preschoolers... As part of the National Innovation and Science Agenda, the Turnbull Government is investing $14 million to equip Australian children with the necessary skills in maths and science for the jobs of tomorrow. Around 75 per cent of the fastest-growing industries require skills in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), so this investments aim is to help Australias youngest minds develop an interest in these fields. ELLA programme extendedapplications now open The Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) programme has been expanded to include additional early learning services. Applications are now open and will close on Friday 4 March 2016. The ELLA programme provides children with an opportunity to learn a language other than English using innovative mobile apps. Educators are not required to be proficient in speaking other languages. The link below has more information about eligibility criteria and how to apply. 19.01.2022 Good afternoon fledgelings. Did you read our blog post on the danger of radiation emitted by phones and tablets on children? An estimated one million Australian children will be taking high-tech devices, such as tablets, to school this year. Research by Telstra has estimated that 1.3 million households with school-aged children have at least one tablet and 62 per cent of these tablet owners have purchased at least one tablet for education purposes. Shelly Gorr, a senior advi...ser in Telstras Digital Inclusion team, has said it is important for children to learn and practise digital literacy skills. Do you limit screen time in your house hold? We've recently come across a few good points against limiting screen times for kids. One of the best was about not turning screen time into a reward and so, turning it into such a desired thing that, when kids reach school age and need ipads and tablets for school work, they will have no concept of self control. In light of all this, the most important thing we should be teaching our kids is self-moderation because, looking ahead to their futures, we won't be by their shoulder throughout their career reminding them not to be on Facebook during work hours. Though sometimes I wish my mum could use her mum power to sense when I'm distracted... But whose to say I'd even listen? If you want to refresh your memory about Wi-Fi and Phone Health and Safey, have a look at our blog post on the subject here http://littlebirdnannyagency.com.au/news-hub/ We love to hear your feedback about our posts, so don't forget to show your appreciation by "liking" this post or commenting!
19.01.2022 Early Childhood Education and Care National Workforce Census The government will be conducting the third Early Childhood Education and Care National Workforce Census from 23 May17 July 2016. The census will collect information on service usage, children with additional needs, access to preschool programs and staff details, including staff demographics, types of work, qualifications, experience and current study. The information will provide a national overview to inform policy, including the Jobs for Families Child Care Package and the implementation of the National Quality Agenda. 18.01.2022 Something fun for your Monday birdies. Kids have such wonderful imaginations. It's always so special when you have the change to delve into their minds and these fantastic artists are creating a wonderful chance for us to see through their eyes! Alternatively I know you can get your kids drawings turned into stuffed animals somewhere? Has anyone done that? Enjoy Australia day tomorrow everyone. Wishing you a safe and delicious day xx
17.01.2022 With the end of the holidays in sight, it's a great time to start thinking about having the house a little more organised, especially with all the new school supplies coming into the house. This is definitely a wonderful idea. We especially love the Lego one! No doubt it will save a few feet from the horror of stepping on one of those so colourful but evil bricks Please remember to like and comment on our posts so we know you enjoy them! Which one of these is your favourite?
16.01.2022 Recent research conducted at the University of North Texas clearly reveals that the cortisol levels of babies left alone to CIO remain at unnaturally high levels even days after they learn to stop crying/cuing for help. However, the cortisol levels of mothers -- which register as abnormally high when their babies cry -- return to normal levels in the silence. At this point, mothers and babies are no longer biologically in sync. The mothers assume all is well; they interpret their babies silence as proof that their little ones have learned to self-soothe. Yet, physiologically babies cant self-soothe. Rather, CIO teaches them to panic silently and detach from those whom nature intends for them to trust.
16.01.2022 Merry Christmas Birdies!! Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday
15.01.2022 How was your weekend birdies? In the spirit of gender equality, today we're talking about this fantastic page, "A Mighty Girl", who share inspirational posts about historical Wonder Women, and more importantly for us, fantastic books and ideas for inspiring the Wonder Women of tomorrow. As the only girl in my year who took the Metal work class in high school, I know the sort of prejudice that STILL affects our society and the perceptions we have of girls interested in math, science and trades. Do your girls love woodwork? Do they love doing science experiments, at the peril of the family goldfish who does NOT want to partake in a home-made volcano? What have you done to support your mighty girls? As always please "like" and "share" the stuffing out of our post so we know you appreciate us

10.01.2022 Nationally consistent approach to early childhood intervention The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has released a national framework for an approach to Early Childhood Early Intervention. Early Childhood Intervention Australia (ECIA) has been involved with NDIA to co-design the key elements that are critical for positive outcomes for young children with developmental delay or disability.
09.01.2022 Another good day for ducks! Today we want to start a discussion about the entitlement the current youth are displaying and what we can do to help our kids and charges be a little more grateful, a little more generous, and a little more thankful. The article below (please excuse the sensationalised headline) goes into how several schools are adopting the KidsGive program, where children use crowdfunding to raise money for the cause of their choice. "You counteract the age of... entitlement with the age of giving," Yarrington says. "Kids learn that sometimes it is more about others than myself." Somethings we often think of here at Little Bird are ways to implement this sort of behaviour at home. Below is a link with good ideas to get you inspired -> http://www.themotherco.com//how-to-avoid-raising-an-entit/ Of course all kids go through a stage like this anyway, as they learn to understand their own autonomy in relation the the world around them, but where does fair praise end and entitlement begin? As always, you can find more of our articles on our website littlebirdnannyagency.com.au where you can comment, share or save them. OR let us know in the comments below things your passionate about as a parent or Nanny! Have a lovely weekend Birdies x
08.01.2022 Confusion about where to turn for trustworthy medical advice may be responsible for spiralling rates of presentations at the RCHs emergency department, with the poll revealing half of the parents visited a hospital for health advice in the past six months. Hospital Eds are highly trusted, but they are not the best place for the care of children with lower acuity conditions, who will typically face long wait times as critical patients are treated first, Dr Rhodes said. Instead of turning to Dr Google only to fearfully rush your kids to the emergency department, we need to work on maintaining our relationship with our kids GPs.
08.01.2022 Preschool education in Australia: The stats The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released a new report on preschool education in Australia. The report found that four-year-olds made up 82 per cent of the 325 273 children aged four or five enrolled in a preschool program last year, while 18 per cent were aged five. The 2015 enrolments were almost equally split between preschools and long day care centres. Click below to access the full report. http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/mf/4240.0
06.01.2022 Happy Monday fledgelings! We hope you all had a beautiful weekend. Here's a little funny to get your week started.
06.01.2022 Monday done and dusted fledglings. Since we're back to swimming weather it's high time to remind everyone about pool and beach safety with kids. Had a recent trip to Cook and Phillip Pool in the city and loved their "within arms reach" policy about kids five and under. As nice as the summer season is for drinks by the pool, remember that drowning and pool accidents are still the biggest cause of accidental deaths for children under five. Just take a minute to refresh yourself... on the the safety protocols and regulations, you never know when you might be thankful you took the time. The second point we want to make today is how important it is to upkeep your first aid! Little Bird nannies always have at least Senior First Aid Certification, but to all our parents, if you haven't yet, you never want to be without that extra knowledge. *Touch wood* you never need it. Please remember to like, comment on or share our posts, we love to hear your feedback!
05.01.2022 Happy Monday birdies! A little thought provoking article for you today. Always interesting to sit back and see our everyday worries placed against the grander scale of the era.
04.01.2022 Heathy lunches just look better! We've managed the whole rainbow today
02.01.2022 Tipping the scales: promoting child mental health Among the many skills that children develop in their early years are social and emotional wellbeing skills, which provide the foundation for childrens mental health. These skills are critical to helping young children manage the ups and downs that are part of everyones life. Children who are mentally healthy can cope better with challenges, are more open to learning, and are more responsive to new things and new people. In ...the early years, we can think of child mental health as being like an old-fashioned set of scales one side are the positive factors that contribute to mental wellbeing, on the other, the negative factors. Parents, teachers and early childhood educators can all work together to help young children to load up the positive side of the scale and minimise the factors weighing down the negative side. Some of protective factors within a child that can help to load up the positive side of the scale are: having an easy-going temperament having positive expectations of themselves feeling positive about the future having a sense of independence possessing good communication, problem-solving and social skills being able to regulate their own emotions positive and lasting relationships with friends and family. All children will have good days and bad days, but poor mental health in childhood is more than having a bad day sometimes. When children are faced with multiple and long lasting negative factors things like being an anxious child, experiencing conflict at home, or being culturally or socially isolated the risk factors on the negative side of the scale pile up and, for some children, poor mental health can be the result. Steps to promote child mental health There are steps you can take to help promote childrens mental health: Maintain routines Routines can help young children and babies to feel secure. Having routines for story-time and meals, for example, offers structure. Listen to childrens concerns Having a trusted adult to talk to when theyre worried, one who wont judge and who will listen carefully, is an important factor in childrens mental health. Build a network with other adults Your relationships with the other adults in each childs life relevant health professionals, other teachers and early childhood educators, and the childs family are an important factor in their mental health. Modelling healthy relationships helps children to build a network of secure attachment figures, which all contributes to developing mental wellbeing. If you are still concerned, talk with the childs parents or other caregivers about their child seeing a GP for an assessment and further referral if needed.

01.01.2022 I'm sure you all saw or heard about this yesterday birdies. Sad to say it's going to inspire only panic and worry until more details come out. As for us all we can suggest is always keep your kiddies in sight. Futhermore what's your stranger-danger policies with your kids? Do you have a "secret password" in case you need to send someone unknown to your child to pick them up? How do you explain it to your kids?
