25.01.2022 ROADMAP: Everything you need to know about the Greater Brisbane lockdown and Queensland restrictions

25.01.2022 See below for an update from Premier: Annastacia Palaszczuk. We are essential, so we will remain open. To our currently enrolled families, please keep your eye out on Storypark for an update about precautions moving forward.

24.01.2022 Over the course of this week, the Toddlers have been showing an interest in engaging in symbolic play- using different resources to create their very own rocket ships! We have seen rockets made from connector blocks, sticks, yoghurt tops and we have even used some recycled resources to collage our very own interpretations of rockets too. Child theorist,Piaget, stated that in both play and deferred imitation, the child is able to learn about symbols or that one thing can stand for another. A skill that will be used throughout life.

24.01.2022 There is always something beautiful in every day. Sometimes you just need to look at things from a new perspective <3

24.01.2022 15 Minutes to go! Earth Hour has always been for everyone. Every year, the hour of no power turns individuals, schools, businesses and communities into a millions-strong movement, and it's never been a more important time to make the switch. This Earth Hour, we’re encouraging people everywhere to make the #SwitchforNature to support Australia’s switch to a renewables-based economy.... Simple switches you make in your daily life can help our planet. You could: - Switch to solar power. - Switch your ride - Or just #SwitchOff your lights for Earth Hour to show your support for Australia becoming a renewables powerhouse.

23.01.2022 EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT Miss Tahlia has been a part of the Little Ducks Birkdale community for over 10 years and is a valid asset to the team and service. Miss Tahlia goes above and beyond for the children and families in her care and has a compassion and kindness that draws you to be around her. This is a shout out post to Tahlia to say thanks for being the educator you are!

23.01.2022 Don't forget: Your masks must be worn when travelling to our service, and whilst dropping your children off and collecting them today. #StaySafe #InThisTogether

22.01.2022 Today the Junior Kindy children furthered their knowledge in healthy eating habits and nutrition as they made fruit faces for morning tea while discussing the benefits they hold for our bodies. Check out their creations in the photos.

21.01.2022 EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT Miss Cassie is our wonderful Center Manager! Cassie has been working at Little Ducks for over 10 years and has a passion for children's well being. She has a vast knowledge that improves educators practice and is always happy to assist or provide support. This is a shout out to Cassie to let her know we appreciate her for all the hard work she does. Leave her a message below!

21.01.2022 You must carry a face mask with you at all times when you leave home, unless you have a lawful reason not to. You must wear a mask in indoor spaces, except in your home. We will be adhering to the updated protocols in the following way; - Educators will carry a mask at all times. - Parents/caregivers must wear a mask when dropping off and picking up your children. - All visitors to the service over the age of 12 must wear a mask when visiting the centre. The health, safety and welfare of children, families, educators and staff of early childhood education and care services continues to be our priority during this ever-changing pandemic, and we thank you for your co-operation.

21.01.2022 Music can have a massive benefit in cognitive development. The Senior Nursery children have music in so many aspects of their day whether in routine times or during play. This week we have been working on our story telling through songs as we help elephants balance along string as well as practicing it ourselves, balancing along different obstacles, developing our spatial awareness too!

20.01.2022 These NAIDOC week provocations invite children's imagination, creativity and knowledge to shine through in their play, as they show respect for cultural diversity. We have a strong belief at Little Ducks Birkdale in embedding this practice daily to show our respect for the Quandamooka land in which we learn and play on. Always was, always will be.

20.01.2022 For me, a VCR!

19.01.2022 EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT In January this year, Kristy and her family moved to Sydney to support her husband in a new role at work. Given the current climate in Sydney, it was not the ideal place to be so they packed their bags and came home before the boarder restrictions were in place. Kristy was with us for almost 11 years before her move down south so when we heard the news of her return to QLD, we were so excited to offer her a role within our service. Welcome back, Kristy! It is great to have you home.

18.01.2022 Educator Spotlight Miss Chloe is our Toddler lead educator and has recently returned to Little Ducks Birkdale after being a full time mum to her son. Miss Chloe is passionate about children's learning through play and provides engaging experiences for the children based on their interests and home projects. She is currently learning the business management side to the industry. This is a shout out to let her know we appreciate all her hard work.

18.01.2022 Wishing all our prep children a wonderful first day! We can't wait to hear all your stories of the adventures you got up to.

16.01.2022 Its Red Nose Day! Today, we have shown our support for Red Nose by providing families with information on safe sleeping, safe wrapping, cot safety and grief and loss support. You can further show support by making a donation rednoseday.org.au/donate

16.01.2022 Thank you for keeping our state safe! Please remember that even if you have the mildest symptoms, stay home and arrange a test. This helps us protect the smallest, vulnerable children in our community <3

15.01.2022 Recently, some of our educators attended an Early Learning Redlands online Zoom event hosted by Ruth Dyer from IndigiScapes Centre. During this Zoom, Ruth spoke passionately about children growing through play in nature and one of our key takeaways was about creating an environment that was environmentally sustainable for insects and wildlife. This prompted us to plan a sustainability module focusing on this topic and the children have been engaging in various emergent learni...ng experiences about wildlife, nature and habitats. Through providing loose parts for their play, the children have created their own representations of various habitats in our outdoor play space over the past two days. Moving forward, we will be working with the children to include the addition of bird nest baskets, bug hotels and small water dishes for our smaller wildlife creatures to access in our environment. 15.01.2022 Gardening with children provides them with skills to help your child's development. You and your children will enjoy every stage of the process. Young children can practice loco motor skills, body management skills and object control skills in the garden. Gardening is also a wonderful opportunity to build on sensory development. Today the Senior Nursery children were gifted some lettuce seedlings and we spent the morning exploring the garden planting them.

14.01.2022 Tomorrow we will be wearing our pyjamas and collecting donations for The Pyjama Foundation! If you are in a position to be able to support this campaign, we would love you to contribute a small donation.

14.01.2022 Yesterday we had a very special visitor! Laura from Street Science came to visit us for a science show! Laura spoke to us a lot about germs and how we leave our germs on lots of different surfaces such as drink bottles, toys, tables ect. when we dont wash our hands. Laura then walked us through some science experiments to visually show us what happens to our germs when we dont wash them away with soap. She used a special blue light so that we were able to see the germs on d...ifferent surfaces and then once we had washed them away, we could no longer see them under the blue light. As we moved through the show, Laura discussed with us the importance of being careful around electrical points. She demonstrated how electricity can travel through our bodies, through water and even from person to person. The children were reminded to make sure that they stay away from power points and not to put anything inside of them as it could cause harm to themselves or one of their friends. Laura later explained to us that when we eat unhealthy food, it effects our teeth by breaking them down. Laura added some special tooth paste to her water and as she brushed and brushed, her teeth became healthy and strong. We also discussed how if we dont effectively wash our hands, germs can go into our tummies through touching the foods that we eat. This then sometimes makes us vomit. Laura demonstrated this through an experiment where she added some germs (powder) to a healthy beaker of water (our tummy). The children watched in awe as the beaker bubbled over and fizzed out the sides! What a wonderful time we had with Laura from Street Science!

14.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISS RENEE!

14.01.2022 This week in Kindergarten the children have been learning all about the letter B and what sorts of things might start with this letter. The children brainstormed ideas together and made their way outside to see what they could discover. Some things identified were Bouncing, Balls, Beams, Balance, Boat and Butterfly. This prompted Emma to come up with the idea to create a group project together where they collaboratively painted their hand prints to make a butterfly. Check out their display in the Kindergarten room.

13.01.2022 Teamwork, co-operation and compassion! The kindergarten children have been challenging their physical skills as well as working on ways in which they can assist others. Today Kerri created this pulley system and the children worked together to get everyone from the ground to the fort. They also did a risk assessment together and worked out their own safety precautions. (Check in the comments for their mind map risk assessment)

13.01.2022 The more risks you allow your children to make, the better they learn to look after themselves - Roald Dahl This morning the Kindergarten children demonstrated they are capable of assessing their own limitations through being aware of how their actions could impact on themselves, others and the environment. Being able to assess hazard and the associated risk is a life skill transferable into other real-life experiences.

12.01.2022 This week in recognition of Child Protection Week, the Junior Kindy and Kindergarten children participated in Bravehearts Keep Ditto Safe Show. Throughout the show the children learnt essential personal safety skills through song, dance and discussions at an age-appropriate level.

11.01.2022 "Giving your child opportunities to practice independence and experience autonomy helps them create a sense of mastery over their body, their mind and their environment. This supports independent and critical thinking, encourages intrinsic motivation and inspires confidence." The Junior Kindy children are given many opportunities for independence and to contribute to decision making throughout the day. Some examples are choosing where to sleep, when to eat or what experiences... they would like to engage in. Their independence has blossomed over the last few months with the children now able to make their own beds, pour their own drinks of water and open their own lunches. Below is a useful website for some ways in which you could foster autonomy at home. https://www.canr.msu.edu//the_little_toddler_that_could_au

08.01.2022 "Play is a powerful and important activity. It has a natural and positive influence on childrens social, physical, emotional and cognitive development. The best learning happens when children play. Through play, children can discover their own interests, abilities and limitations; they imagine, investigate and explore. They develop memory skills, build vocabulary, learn new skills and knowledge and learn how to get on with adults and other children." - Department of Education The Toddler children have created a medium to explore the various types of machinery and their uses as well as learning about patterns and how to create them with tyres during their play in the outside environment.

06.01.2022 "Mindfulness training has been to shown to reduce the severity of depression, anxiety and ADHD in children. Mindfulness builds resilience by giving children skills to help them to cope better with stress, as well as engage more fully with themselves and the world." Kids Matter, 2017 Weaving takes you to an incredible dream-like state when your gaze is fixed, your breathing slow and the only part of your body thats moving is your fingertips. It allows children the opportunity... to feel the pause that weaving delivers to your mind. Our outdoor nature weaving station is the perfect place for the children to come to when they are searching for their calm. Its exactly what many children do need and the perfect mediation activity for children who should slow down but dont particularly like to sit still.

05.01.2022 How lucky are we!? I arrived back at the centre this afternoon, following the monthly management meeting, to see some home baked cookies for the educators from one of our Senior Nursery childrens mums, just as a token of her appreciation! Thanks, Alana. We appreciate you too

03.01.2022 Leaping! The leap is a large step, taking off from one foot and landing on the other, in which the flight phase is increased in a forward and upward direction. A single leap may be combined with the run to leap over an object (such as a puddle or obstacle) while maintaining the running pattern. The continuous leap is a series of leaps and is sometimes described as an exaggerated run. Single and continuous leaps are used in playground games such as hopscotch games, track and field events such as hurdles and triple jump, traditional dances, and sports such as basketball, baseball, netball, and football. Our children have been learning the fundamental movement skill of leaping during the month of July through our Move and Groove program, implemented by Miss Teesh.

03.01.2022 The Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package has been extended until 12 July 2020.
