25.01.2022 With all the rain we have had lately it has meant there has been some water flowing through our creek bed in the Nature Kindy area, I managed to snap this sneaky pic while I was up there yesterday. Lynn and the children were discovering the little weeds that had decided it was a nice place to grow and picking them for our Hens. Such wonderful learning and conversations to be had during a spontaneous experience such as this.

25.01.2022 A new adventure playground arrived for the toddlers and babies! the children were so excited this morning when they came in and saw it

25.01.2022 INCURSION! We have our friends Steve from Wild Movement Perth coming to visit us in our Nature Kindy Area on 16th August. If you would like to be a part of this let us know at [email protected] and we can let you know the availability. The children will experience and learn about the following during Steve's visit...... In this workshop you will learn: - the principles of wood and tinder selection. - the 3 key elements for fire creation. - how to create a fire by friction kit. - how to start a fire using friction. The children will get to witness a fire being started the traditional way as well as get to play with the kits.

25.01.2022 Today we were very lucky and had a visit from some of our local Police Officers. They brought along a plain clothes police car as well as a 'Paddy Wagon' for the children to have a look at, sit in and explore. We also got some pretty cool police hats to keep as well as some stickers. Once everyone had a look there was an opportunity to ask the Police Officers some questions and learn more about what they do. We were reminded the number to call in an emergency only, and also that the Police are there to help us when we are in need. A big thank you to the friendly officers that took the time out of their day to provide us with this wonderful experience!

24.01.2022 Dear friends and families of little learners EDEC We just wanted to provide an update on our centre We are aware that some parents have expressed some concern about childcare centres possibly closing, which is why we wanted to share some government advice which was issued today from the department of education. Our primary aim is to support services to remain open for as long as possible.. we understand that a decision about widespread closure is NOT IMMINENT Our centre w...ill remain open until directed otherwise by a government authority. At this difficult and uncertain time, we are working hard to safeguard our centre, children, families and employees. We want to reassure you that we are maintaining our exceeding practices and are being very vigilant with regards to health and hygiene practices. We are keeping up to date with the latest information provided by all government authorities and we are doing everything possible to keep our families, children and employees safe and protected. Please feel free to talk to myself or your room educators if you have any questions or would like clarification on our policies and procedures. 21.01.2022 On Wednesday our National Marine Debris Campaigner, Marina Hansen, visited Little Learners an early development and education centre in White Gum Valley, Perth.... Marina hosted an incursion with a group of children from the Nature Kindergarten program, sharing with them the importance of protecting life in our oceans and why our marine debris campaign is working hard to free our oceans of plastic pollution. In support of Book Week 2020, Marina read 'What Would Happen Do You Suppose?’ an engaging children’s book on plastic pollution written and illustrated by Julie Parker, our very own Mallacoota Marine Debris Coordinator. Thank you to the team at Little Learners for hosting Sea Shepherd today - Marina was delighted to spend time with these future stewards of our planet. We would also like to show our appreciation to Little Learners for their donation to Sea Shepherd Australia which they made as part of their membership with the 1% for the Planet program. 20.01.2022 While we love being outdoors as much as possible all year round, there are days when mother nature and the children have other plans! So, with that in mind we have just installed an amazing role play home corner learning environment complete with a very comfortable home corner sofa suite! Its packed full of incredibly wooden (mainly) resources with plenty of more things on the way.... I can’t wait to see the children role playing in this engaging new learning environment next week.

20.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon we had Steve from Wild Movement Perth visit us for his 'Fire by Friction' incursion. The children got to see the process from creating a small ember form using some sticks to this creating a lovely fire for some damper to be cooked over. They were so excited to see him back here at Little Learners with us, many remembering the last time he was here! Steve will be coming to share his amazing knowledge and enthusiasm once a term, so keep your eyes peeled for the next date.

16.01.2022 Last Thursday we had our second visit from our friend Steve from 'Wild Movement Perth' to complete the second and final stage of our Clay Pinch Pot Incursion. This involved lighting our fire in the fire pit and baking them within it! This was such an awesome experience for the children, as we waited for the fire to build and get hot enough for the Clay Pots the children and Educators cooked some bread on sticks they had prepared with the children earlier 'Damper'. Keeping... a watchful eye and having patience was needed during this process but the wait was well worth it as the bread was warm and delicious! When the cooking and eating was finished Steve placed the Pots within the bed of the fire and kept a close eye to them to ensure they had just the right amount of time in there before they were taken out to cool before the children were able to take them home to share with their families. Thank you again Steve, we love what you do! www.wildmovementperth.com.au

06.01.2022 Wow our new mud kitchen looks AMAZING. The children wanted to make a mud kitchen out of recycled and donated items such as pallet boxes. Here they are applying the finishing touches and cooking up a storm.... Well done to all the children that had a hand making this magnificent mud kitchen. Next stop 'the block'!

03.01.2022 This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, it’s an important one. These are prewriting patterns, with the average (not prescribed) age at which child...ren are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as visual motor integration. Note that an X is not typically achieved until 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child can’t form these basic shapes...then they probably won’t be able to form letters. It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling, where they’re expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically don’t have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesn’t hold meaning, it‘s unlikely to stick. So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, that’s great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum stands, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better. 02.01.2022 Today we were fortunate to have another visit from our great friend Steve, from Wild Movement Perth. This time Steve came to teach us the art of making original styled water carriers and cooking pots using that great natural resource mud! We can’t wait for him to come back next Thursday when he will show the children how to cure their clay pinch pots in our open fire pit before taking the home.... #Wildmovementperth,#natureplay, #naturekindergarten, #reggioemilia, #stem, #realhhandtools, #mud #earlychildhoodeducationandcare, #childcarecentre

01.01.2022 This morning we had a visit from West Oz Wildlife. The Babies, Toddlers and our Nature Kindy children all had a chance to have a look and maybe even a touch if they were feeling confident. It is such a wonderful experience being able to get so close to these amazing animals. We had Juda the Koala, Yappa the Dingo, Rocky the Snake, Ninja the snake and Barry the Bobtail were some of the animals that came to visit us.

01.01.2022 We have been reflecting on how we could use a spare room that were not using. We have decided to create an Atelier (art studio) dedicated to small groups or individual children to explore, discover and create using a variety of materials. Children can paint, glue, use clay and other messy materials in a quiet calm environment. All children will be able to visit the Atelier at various times throughout the day and spend unlimited time exploring different art mediums

01.01.2022 What an exciting morning we had here! The visit from West Oz Wildlife was such a fantastic experience. The children (if they wanted to) got to get up close and personal with a Koala, 2 snakes, Lizards, Dingo and Bobtail.... I am sure there will be some stories coming home with the children this afternoon. Thank you again West Oz Wildlife!

01.01.2022 Exciting news - Little Learners EDEC have partnered with Nourished Beginnings to bring nourishing whole food meals to the children in our care. We understand the important role nutrition plays in early childhood and have made it our responsibility to provide meals that are packed full of nutrients essential for optimal growth and development. Our nourishing menus are based on the whole food principle. Whole food is food which is eaten as close to its natural state as possibl...e. No additives, unprocessed and unrefined. It is thinking about where our food comes from and the processes that are undertaken to get it to our plates. Whole food is enjoying the food we are eating whilst appreciating and understanding the nourishment it provides our bodies. Wholefood is real food. Nourished Beginnings mission is to set a new standard for what is acceptable nutrition in child care centers and family dinner tables throughout Australia. Our children are our future and it is our aim to assist early childhood centres and families by providing them with quality food education and training to see their children grow and develop into healthy adults with strong food values and a healthy relationship with food for life. For more information on Nourished Beginnings please visit: www.nourishedbeginnings.org We will be launching our exciting new menu’s as of Monday 18th February and can't wait to see the positive impact these awesome menu's will have on our children.

01.01.2022 Wow what a hot day today. After rest time we offered water trays and paint brushes on the veranda, so our toddlers could paint with water. They painted the bricks, the walls and painted cool water on themselves. A very calming and cooling activity they really enjoyed.
