24.01.2022 It was a busy Forest School Friday for Pre-Prep this week! After monitoring the weather closely, we decided with a potential storm looming that it would be safer to visit our close by site today in 2 smaller groups and wow we were in for a wildlife treat! With the grass left a little longer the site was thriving with insects, spiders, birds and even a leaping toad. Once our boundaries were set and the safety sweep complete, friends were busy searching and trying to identify w...ildlife they could find using our torches and nature books. Others challenged themselves to climb the twisting vines to take a peak at what might be living down inside an old hollowed out tree stump. Extending on our current ‘Rainbow Serpent’ project, some friends went on a colour treasure hunt. We decided to bring back some of these bright treasures to create our own colourful nature serpent at Little Saints. Finally, back in our yard we created our own nature clay faces using any natural treasures we could find. I wonder if our families can spot them hidden in our trees! It looks like we are in for some more wet weather this coming week which means one thing...mud pies. Don't forget your raincoats friends! See more
23.01.2022 We have had another busy week exploring at Forest School with Pre-Prep! Once we reached our Basecamp we made sure we acknowledged the traditional landowners the Yugambeh people, before taking some time for Dadirri. Dadirri is an indigenous practice of Deep Listening in nature shared with us by Aboriginal activist Miriam Rose. It made us all feel nice and calm whilst we listened and looked carefully in our beautiful space. Lots of us created some nature stews and potions wi...th all sorts of treasures we could find. Others were busy searching for insects and researching what they had found in our wildlife books at Basecamp. We even found 2 huge juicy green caterpillars who loved to wiggle along sticks and leaves. One of our favourite activities today was experimenting with the long ropes in between the trees. A small group started by practising their knots tying up the tree, before many more friends joined to try to help make a swing. Before long, it was decided that the group wanted to make a giant spiders web. We cant wait to explore using the ropes to create many more games next week! See more
22.01.2022 The rain clouds kept their distance today and we had a wonderful venture to Shuster Park for our Forest School session. This week we explored as a smaller group, to allow for a more personalised experience and were able to get ourselves prepared with increasing independence, setting off safely in record time. As our weather forecast showed a 25% chance of rain, some of our friends decided they would like to pack a tarp and rope, so that we could build a shelter just in case ... good thinking forest explorers! Once at the park we observed carefully the tide in the creek (whilst spotting a few floating ‘logadiles’) and even thought about how the moon impacts upon this. Once we paused to look carefully, we were also lucky enough to see a wide range of wildlife as always, including what we thought looked much like a falcon swooping in the air above. Many friends chose to continue with there stick imaginative play and this week used their own fine motor skills to tie knots with increasing independence, whilst creating their own fishing rods and magic wands. Others chose to climb and spot insects in the beautiful big fig tree and we were once again blown away by the peer support they gave each other, keeping everyone safe climbing. We decided to bring some sticks back with us as our ‘Borrow Box’ treasures this week to explore creating some 2D and 3D shapes together. Have a great weekend everyone and with the wet weather forecast, don’t forget to splash in some muddy puddles and dance in the rain! See more

21.01.2022 This week we received a new addition to our playground this incredible YARDart caravan cubby! YARDart Cubbies are designed and built locally, made from high quality, durable materials. They offer endless opportunities for open-ended and child-directed play themes, sparked from their own imagination... and we have certainly seen a lot of that this week! This caravan cubby was custom made for Little Saints and we are excited to share that there will be another one arriving so...on for the toddler/babies yard! . . . #goldcoastkindy #childcaregoldcoast #childcare #childcarecentre #daycare #imaginationplay #roleplay #letchildrenbechildren #earlylearning #earlychildhoodeducation #steinereducation See more

19.01.2022 if you could change one thing in the world, what would you change?! My babies are taking part in the #globalstrikeforfuture today because... there aint no pla...net B. I know there will come a day when my kids ask me what I did to help the earth for them, and their children and their childrens children. I know a strike isnt all I can do, but... I want the government to see that we are awake to this, that we need the government to DO MORE, we need big business to DO MORE and that we need our wider community to DO MORE. We need our community (which is you and me!) to strive towards living more sustainable (lets try and do lots of small changes, constantly) so that all these good environmental practises become so ingrained as normal for OUR children they dont carry on the bad environmental habits of last generation and the start of this one. If you cant strike today, please, please have the conversation with your children and then, start good environmentally sustainable habits in YOUR home. For our future grandchildren. #strikeforchange
19.01.2022 Happy Sunday everyone!
18.01.2022 Wow, what are fantastic first week at Forest School for Pre- Prep! Everyone has been busy learning and practising our Forest School rules over the past 2 weeks in preparation and we were able to recall these together before we set off today. We all crossed the roads safely and made it to our Forest School basecamp at Schuster Park, after spotting lots of wildlife along the way! Once at basecamp acknowledged the traditional landowners the Yugambeh people, before having a picn...ic morning tea together. We spotted so many insects and even found a very camouflaged huntsman spider on a giant tree! It was lots of fun looking up what we had found in our wildlife books and learning much more about their habitat. Some of us collected sticks and built a very comfy looking home for Borris the Bear with Miss Juliette. Some of the group spotted lots of cicada shells stuck attached to one particular tree. We also collected special treasures remembering to follow our no lick, no pick rule, to put in our Borrow Box. Our treasures will come back to Pre-Prep with us for the week to investigate, before we return them to the Forest next session. Finally, just as we were getting ready to leave we saw 4 horses and their owners trot passed. We cant wait for next weeks adventure! See more

18.01.2022 Pre-Prep have had a wonderful first few Forest School adventures to Schuster Park, working together as a nature tribe, to make sure we all made the big journey safely. Before we set off, we recapped our Forest School rules at Basecamp and made sure we were all packed up and wearing the correct clothing. It is a quite a big walk all the way to our Forest School site, but all of our friends did so extremely well and we didn’t mind as there was so much to spot along the way. On...ce set up at our site we shared morning tea together under our new favourite tree and acknowledged the traditional owners, the Yugambeh People, for the land on which we play, learn and stand. We then set out our boundaries and explored! To continue on from our bug hunting in the first session, we bought with us a torch, which would allow us to have a good look safely into all of the nooks on the trees to see what we could find and identify. Some of our friends practised climbing up upon the large tree and discovered there was a natural window to spot our buddies through! It was fantastic to see and hear friends giving support and directions to each other to help find the best foot holes to use. Just before heading back for our lunch we found and collected some more nature treasures for our Borrow Box, for us to investigate throughout the week. I wonder what we will find altogether at Forest School this FridayWe may be in for some wet weather, so bring your raincoat friends! See more

09.01.2022 Look what our Babies have been up to this week! Pouring, tipping, splashing, painting and drinking are all the words you can use to describe what the babies have been up to over the last week in the babies room as they have had the opportunity to develop their problem solving skills, explore their sense of touch and strengthen their bonds with their friends and educators through water play each day of the week as they giggled between each other and shared lots of smiles! Water play is much more than just a fun activity for babies, it actually gives them many opportunities to develop gross and fine motor skills across the different age ranges. Young babies love to reach out when water is being poured in front of them and love to feel the trickle and trying to grab the flowing water with an eager grasping hand!

03.01.2022 The sun certainly had its hat on today, as we set off to Schuster Park for Forest School! We were extremely excited to see that the recent rain had created some beautiful temporary waterways throughout the park that made some of the larger trees look like islands. Our friends commented on how their reflection made it look like the trees were upside down. Others reflected on how fast the current in the creek was flowing today and that it was carrying logs and even what we tho...ught looked a lot like a raft along towards the ocean. After arriving safely, we set up our boundaries and basecamp and had some delicious morning tea together under our favourite shady tree. Once our bellies were full, it was time to fire up our imagination, as today was all about stick play! We played together ‘This is not a stick, it’s a’ and so many of our friends had some brilliant ideas. For some, their favourite sticks became fishing rods ready to catch leaf fish. Others chose to create stick people, stick monsters, stick spiders, stick snakes, tent pegs and even a stick boomerang. We will certainly continue to get creative with our stick play ideas back in the yard and families you can even play this at home too! See more

01.01.2022 Forest School was a huge success this week and all of the educators were incredibly proud of the group! Everybody listened very carefully to their friends whilst we recapped our rules, before we set off safely for our Forest School site. We set up basecamp under the beautiful giant tree and took the time to acknowledge the traditional landowners the Yugambeh people. Today we decided we wanted to look out at the nature all around us for our mindful Dadirri and we noticed so ...many butterflies, birds and even felt the wind against our faces. After an extra delicious morning tea together to top up our energy levels we set out our boundary and started exploring. Many Forest Explorers took time to read our wildlife books together, before going on a hunt to try and spot the insects and birds in the park. We even found a giant huntsman spider clinging to the bark of a tree. Others chose to create a huge and rather yummy looking Wombat Stew, recreating the story together. Once again, creating our own rope games and practising tying knots was the most popular activity today. First, we worked as a team to create an even bigger spiders web throughout the trees. This then led to many other child-initiated games being developed where friends created their own rules and strategies. Mr Thiago worked with a group to build a tree swing. Before we used our swing, we had to check the tree branch and rope were super strong. We then found a thick stick and Mr Thiago used his experienced knot tying skills, before testing the swing out for himself. We then took it in turns to swing, so that everyone could have a try. Before long, many Forest Explorers were also helping each other to climb into one of our favourite trees, lending a hand to those who needed. Everyone worked so fantastically as a team to help their friends throughout the morning. Just before leaving and on our trip back to the centre, we collected some special treasures remembering to follow our no lick, no pick rule, to put in our Borrow Box. We have collected a big bunch of large seed pods, which we have decided we would like to test as boomerangs at our next Forest School session! See more
