25.01.2022 Congrats to Beaumont Building Design for winning the 2020 HIA Australian GreenSmart Sustainable Home for its home in Periwinkle place at The Cape in Cape Paterson (not Cape York as the article says.) The Bass Coast building design company took out the award during a virtual event for the 2020 HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards on 8 September. The HIA Australian GreenSmart Sustainable Home category is judged on water, energy and resource efficiency and management, innovation and liveability. Nice build by TS Constructions https://hia.com.au//housing-awa/2020/gs-sustainable-winner

24.01.2022 Check out this great film on all the work going in to restoring habitat for nature at The Cape. New wetlands, parks, a restored creekline and kilometers of walking and cycling paths allow people to interact with nature. Thanks to our residents for your great support and involvement and the staff from Australian Ecosystems and The Sustainable Landscape Company for all of your hard work in bringing this landscape together. Great to see wildlife coming back in to a site that was previously a cleared cattle property, with a big increase in wildlife moving in to site in the past decade. #habitat #nature #coastalliving #sustainability #BSUD

24.01.2022 All public playgrounds will be closed from tomorrow for six weeks due to the new coronavirus restrictions. In the interests of the health and safety of our community and our state, The Capes playground will also be closed. Hopefully we will have the playground back open again in six weeks :) Best wishes ... The Cape team See more

24.01.2022 There are several of the fairly common Masked Lapwing birds within The Cape, and a resident pair have set up camp around The Cape wetland. You can often see them venturing out into the grassy open spaces around the estate. They are noticeable by their noisy, grating call, are easily alarmed and can be quite aggressive (even toward humans) and protective of their territory. These birds have wing spurs so this bird is also known as the Spurwinged Plover. Photo and words David Hartney

24.01.2022 As part of our series celebrating the coastal, woodland, wetland, heathland and grassland birds that live in and around the Cape Paterson coastline, today we feature the Great Cormorant. If you look out over the rocks or along the coast you may see the Great Cormorant hanging about with its wings outstretched drying after a fishing expedition. The white throat patches and yellow facial skin are stand-out features. Words and photos by David Hartney

24.01.2022 Being able to walk out our back door and having green space has been really good for both of us, mentally, he says. More and more people are making a sea-change or an "e-change" as they realise the lifestyle benefits of living in the beautiful regional towns in Victoria. The Cape features wetlands, parklands, cycling and walking tracks, and we will be building the last huge stage of our community farm soon. The growing community will soon feature a sports precinct and, of ...course, residents can head out their front door and walk right onto the beach within minutes :) https://www.theguardian.com//the-covid-exodus-from-the-cit

23.01.2022 Nice article on the Bungalow home designed and built at the Cape by The Sociable Weaver - this iconic small footprint home is one of the favourite homes at our fast growing community, and looking at these photos you can see why. #smallisbeautiful #sustainableliving #naturallight # https://the-origins.com//the-bungalow-think-big-build-sma/

22.01.2022 A larger bird than the Silver Gull, you will see the Pacific Gull along the coast. A beautiful bird, quite graceful in flight, generally in pairs or small flocks. The juvenile/immature birds are brown in colour and take about 3 years to reach the white and black adult plumage. You will often see them close-by to people fishing on the beach and rocks waiting for some discarded bait. They also glide up and down the coast in the breeze and reportedly venture to Phillip Island to feed on fledgling Shearwaters in April. They are a near-threatened species in Victoria. Photo and words David Hartney

22.01.2022 Two beautiful homes by The Sociable Weaver at the Cape - The Bungalow and 10 Star - were featured in Realestate.com this week. Great to see homes like these celebrated in the media https://www.facebook.com/461343250729700/posts/1413719292158753/?extid=1aiQwcbV6XWjdTip&d=n

22.01.2022 The walking and cycling paths at the Cape lead to some of the most stunning coastline. Here are a few photos of our coast captured by the very talented Warren Reed from Coast magazine #beachlife #naturalbeauty

22.01.2022 We love The Bungalow, a beautifully designed home handcrafted by The Sociable Weaver at The Cape. Here is a profile on this stunning and affordable beach home from The Design Files #naturallight #effortlesscomfort #workmanship https://thedesignfiles.net//architecture-bungalow-house-b/

21.01.2022 The Pacific Golden Plover is another remarkable migratory bird from western Alaska (and northern Siberia) that is an uncommon visitor to our coastline over summer. You will mainly see them on the rocks near 2nd Surf in small flocks of about 20 birds. A small-medium plover, its plumage in Australia (when it is non-breeding) consists of golden, ‘sparkling’ markings with a yellowish face and black bill. Photos and words David Hartney

20.01.2022 Nice story on increasing demand for sustainable housing in Victoria, with the Cape at Cape Paterson profiled alongside Salt in Torquay and Mullum Creek estate in Melbourne. https://www.thefifthestate.com.au//mandating-high-sustain/

17.01.2022 Great to see forward thinking builders like Tony O'Connell from TS Constructions honing their skills in delivering energy efficient, carbon neutral housing that dramatically reduces energy bills at a time when households across Australia need relief from high energy costs. Tony features in this well written piece in The Guardian today highlighting our efforts at The Cape to lift standards in Australian housing #energyefficiency #cleanenergy #carbonneutral #lowcostliving https://www.theguardian.com//this-builder-used-to-be-scept

17.01.2022 Great to see some of the biodiverse low maintenance landscapes being created by The Sustainable Landscape Company at The Cape #naturebasedsolutions #urbanbiodiversity

17.01.2022 Its nice to see all the hard work coming together at The Cape - kilometres of walking and cycling paths now built, restored wetlands, parks, beautiful solar powered energy efficient sustainable homes that are warm in Winter, cool in Summer and with very low running costs. We are really enjoying the resurgence of wildlife moving in to our restored habitat areas and wetlands on our Land for Wildlife property and over 100,000 locally indigenous plants have been installed on site so far and counting. Not to mention the big additions to the community garden planned for the next 12 months. Thanks to our photographers who are capturing the progress including Ben Symon, David Hartney and William Hamilton Coates. #wetlands #coastalliving #landforwildlife

16.01.2022 We all know that it is the season for whale sightings along Bass Coast right now but the kids playing in our adventure playground this morning were very surprised to see a blue whale leap up very high in the air One of our residents is a skilled kitemaker which may have something to do with it. The community garden is also growing a lot of cool season produce, and one of our residents is starting to grow some nice local wetland plants for replanting into the restored creek lines this Spring. Great to see an increase in young families buying in to the Cape to enjoy the walking paths, restored habitats, playgrounds and coast #escapetothecape #kidslife #explorenature

15.01.2022 Today we celebrate another of the beautiful bird species that live in our coastal environment, the Short-tailed Shearwater - a remarkable migratory birds that fly from near Alaska in September each year and depart for the return journey in April. Their nesting colonies are on Phillip Island. If you look closely out to sea, you may see them feeding on the wing in their thousands over the summer months in a fly past that can last hours! Photo and words by David Hartney

13.01.2022 The Silver Gull is the fish and chip bird of Australia. You will see them in small and larger groups all along the coast. A very opportunistic bird so please do not encourage these birds by feeding them. They are an attractive bird and have some interesting behaviours if you take the time to observe them. They sometimes venture into The Cape housing estate. Photo David Hartney

13.01.2022 This Sunday is Sustainable House Day, where you can explore a dozen of our sustainable homes online. 11.01.2022 Another nice sunset over the new Cape wetlands

11.01.2022 Latham's Snipe is a migrant to Australia over the summer months from its breeding grounds in the northern islands of Japan, a trip of some 10,000 kms! They are difficult to see and are well camouflaged when on the ground. Usually in dense cover by day and only venture out to feed at dawn and dusk. If disturbed they will take to flight wildly, call in alarm and quickly drop to cover again. Three birds were observed within and around The Cape wetlands in 2019-20 season. So far this year we have seen four different birds in the south east corner of the site in the remnant habitat areas. They are generally seen around the boggy, marshy and wet vegetative areas near the larger Cape wetland. They are listed as vulnerable in Victoria. This bird is also known as the Japanese Snipe. Photo and words David Hartney

11.01.2022 Great to see forward thinking builders like Tony OConnell from TS Constructions honing their skills in delivering energy efficient, carbon neutral housing that dramatically reduces energy bills at a time when households across Australia need relief from high energy costs. 11.01.2022 Small flocks of Crested Tern usually hang out on the rocks along the coast and they regularly do a fly-by along the beach. Often co-located with the Silver Gulls. Pretty handy at feeding for small fish. With fish in the bill and in flight, look out for other terns and gulls in pursuit of their catch! Words and photos David Hartney

10.01.2022 Stage one is almost built out at the Cape, and stage two and three are starting to follow suit. Nice photos taken this week show the progress, the walking and cycling path network, new wetlands and the greenery after recent rains

10.01.2022 We are looking forward to this years Sustainable House Day on Sunday September 20th at the Cape, with 12 homes participating in this online event. 09.01.2022 The Hooded Plover is the most vulnerable bird in our neighbourhood. We are extremely fortunate to have a number of these birds and breeding pairs close by on our beaches. Their numbers are hugely impacted by human actions and nest disturbances. Signs and roped-off areas advise off their nesting areas and our expected behaviour in the breeding season- that is by keeping away from their nesting areas, usually a shallow depression in the sand beyond the high tide mark and keeping dogs on leashes to prevent them chasing the birds. The breeding season is from August-March, the busiest time around The Cape area. These birds are listed as vulnerable in Victoria and only 600 birds remain in Victoria. Photos and words David Hartney

09.01.2022 Today we feature another bird species from our part of the Victorian coastline - the Australasian Gannet. Have a close look out to sea and the low flying large white birds with black wing tips and golden/orange face gliding and flying just above the waves are the Australian Gannets. Watch them plunge dive to take fish as they tuck their wings behind their tails and hit the water like an arrow. They can be seen individually or in small groups. Photographs by David Hartney.

09.01.2022 Nice walk this afternoon along the newly restored creekline, wetlands with habitat stags and extensive new walking and cycling paths. There are five new pocket parks along the creekline as well. It will be great to have these opened up by summer

09.01.2022 Nature was smiling on the 9.1 star Core 9 home at the Cape today, built by TS Constructions and designed by Beaumont Building Design. The home was sitting at a comfortable 18 degrees in the Winter sun today with no heating and cooling in this beautifully designed and built home #lightfootprint #passivesolar #naturebasedsolutions

08.01.2022 Stage 3 sales are speeding up another gear! In the past week we have seen another surge in sales at The Cape, with close to 80% of lots in Stage 3 now taken, Stage 1 sold out and Stage 2 approaching a sell out. We know this estate has been one of Victorias best kept secrets and the secret is now well and truly out! Great to see two of our new residents Amanda and her son Jmara here today, proudly placing a sold sign on their Stage 3 homesite. Our landscape team from The Sust...ainable Landscape Company are busy creating a series of new pocket parks, wetlands and walking paths that we will open up in Spring, and we are growing over 50,000 locally indigenous trees, shrubs and aquatic plants through Australian Ecosystems nursery to be installed in the wetlands and creek lines coming into Summer, to transform what was previously cleared paddocks into a mecca for local wildlife. These new additions to the existing parklands and pathway network set up some beautiful nature walks and cycling. Houses across the estate are averaging around 8 star energy efficiency, a national first, are operationally carbon neutral, water efficient and solar powered, and have super low running costs. All homes are connected to NBN with fibre to the home, allowing residents to work efficiently from home in the current environment. Here are some images from the Cape - our homes, landscape, walking and cycling paths, wetlands and coastline. We look forward to seeing you out on the path network sometime soon, and if you have been waiting to secure a home site in The Cape, dont wait too long as we are likely to sell out Stage 3 before too long. The Cape Sales Office, located at 4 Periwinkle Place, Cape Paterson is open on Thursdays to Sundays 12 noon to 4pm. Please email: [email protected] or call 0370229790 to make an appointment. The Cape team are observing all Covid-19 restrictions. We look forward to showing you through The Cape! Regards The Cape Team

08.01.2022 We are down to less than ten lots remaining in Stage 3 at the Cape, our fast growing, sustainable coastal community at Cape Paterson less than 2 hours from Melbourne with ocean views, kilometres of walking paths, parklands and wetlands, waterways and restored habitats. The Cape also features beautifully designed and built, passive solar homes with low running costs, high speed broadband connected to NBN with fibre to all homes and public and household electric vehicle charge ...points. 50% of the site is set aside for parks, wetlands, biolinks, walking and cycling paths, sports areas, a community garden and a childrens adventure playground. There are stills variety of lot sizes available from 520 sq meters to over 1000 sq meters, but dont wait too long as there is a strong likelihood these remaining lots will sell out quickly #escapetothecape #beachlife #carbonneutral #nature See more

07.01.2022 Dreamy day at The Cape garden and childrens playground today with some unusual wildlife spotted overhead The water efficient farm which features wicking beds is in full swing with some nice produce being harvested. #beachlife #localfood #greenthumb

07.01.2022 The coast around Cape Paterson is rich in history, including being the first site in Australia where dinosaur fossils were discovered by Europeans. Plans are now afoot for a coastal trail that celebrates this and many other elements of local history. Done well, this could be a great addition to Bass Coast. https://www.theage.com.au//shire-plans-dinosaur-trail-to-c

07.01.2022 Congrats to Beaumont Building Design for winning the Housing Industry Association Greensmart Award for the Sunlight House on Sunlight Boulevard, this is a beautiful sustainable home built by TS Constructions https://www.facebook.com/497215183624831/posts/3860687147277601/?d=n

06.01.2022 The Pied Cormorant is slightly larger than the similar looking Little Pied Cormorant, these birds often hang out together and the key differentiator is the size and the coloured facial skin. You will see them flying over The Cape wetlands and open spaces inland from the coast occasionally. Photo David Hartney

06.01.2022 Did you know that energy efficient homes like the ones at the Cape qualify for lower interest green home loans through Bank Australia? 06.01.2022 If you like walking, cycling, clean air and nature, check out this 2 minute film. The Cape at Cape Paterson near Phillip Island is one of the most walkable and cyclable communities in Australia. Kilometres of granitic sand paths meander through the community, taking in wetlands, restored habitat, wildlife, childrens playground, ocean views, and they connect to our local surfing and swimming beaches. Come and explore! Dogs must be on leash at all times on our land for wildlife property... Stage 4 is coming very soon.

05.01.2022 Stage 3 at The Cape is getting closer to selling out! The Cape has had its busiest sales period ever over the past 8 weeks, with Stage 1 completely sold out, only two lots left in Stage 2 and Stage 3 approaching 70% sold. At this rate we will be out of stock in these stages coming in to the busy sales period this summer! Nestled in the centre of The Cape sustainable estate at Cape Paterson, and featuring large swathes of open space and parklands with beautiful ocean views, St...age 3 has it all. Home sites in this stage are a short walk to The Capes beaches and an even shorter walk along beautifully landscaped granitic sand paths to the community gardens, expansive childrens adventure playground, wetlands, parklands, off-leash dog park, nature walks and an amazing 50% open space. A diverse range of home sites feature stunning ocean views over beautiful Bass Strait, as well as parklands, walking paths and wetlands. Allotments range in size from 405 m2 townhouse lots to over 1000 m2, so there is something for everyone. Stage 3 adjoins a new chain of parks and wetlands currently being completed by the landscape team. The relaxed coastal lifestyle of The Cape with our ocean view home sites this close to Melbourne are increasingly rare these days. At the Cape, the beautiful Bunurong Coastal Drive is 5 minutes away and the towns of Inverloch and Wonthaggi, which feature all the necessary shops, infrastructure and services, are only 10 minutes away. The Capes design process will guarantee you a beautiful, passive solar home with year round comfort and super low running costs. All homes are connected to NBN with high speed fibre optic direct to the home, and the coastal landscape promises a healthy, active lifestyle. Dont miss your chance to join this modern, sustainable community. The Cape Sales Office, located at 4 Periwinkle Place, Cape Paterson is open on Thursdays to Sundays 12 noon to 4pm. The Cape team are observing all COVID-19 health and safety restrictions so please email: [email protected] or call (03)7022 9790 to make an appointment. We look forward to showing you through all The Cape has to offer. Best regards The Cape team.

05.01.2022 The future of Australian housing (and transport) is efficient, all electric, comfortable, carbon neutral and with low running costs. We have the technology and design nous at our fingertips to achieve this today. Cape Director Brendan Condon had a chance to talk to the Herald Sun in Melbourne on how to kill your household energy and petrol bills (and carbon emissions) by harnessing passive solar design, efficient all electric homes, solar power and long range electric cars. P...eople are doing this already at The Cape sustainable estate at Cape Paterson. One householder shared their energy and petrol bills with our project team this week, estimating they are saving around $6900 per annum in avoided gas, electricity and petrol bills using the combination of sustainability elements outlined above, compared to the gas/electric house with internal combustion car combination at their previous home in Melbourne. Looking forward to seeing the broader housing industry adopt these types of initiatives to unlock these huge benefits for the whole community #carbonneutral #solarpower #energyefficiency https://www.realestate.com.au//how-to-kill-your-bills-br/

05.01.2022 It’s no surprise that higher quality energy efficient homes attract higher resale values. Our designers and builders at the Cape are working hard to ensure every home at the Cape reach these standards, so that all homes are energy efficient, comfortable, healthy and have low running costs. https://www.domain.com.au//energy-efficient-homes-can-sel/

04.01.2022 We are fortunate to have small flocks of Sooty Oystercatchers along The Cape coastline. They are beach-nesting birds and so are vulnerable to our interactions. Look out for their all black plumage, red eyes and thick red bill. In strong coastal winds, they often tuck their head into their shoulder and stand on one leg into the breeze. They are near threatened in Victoria.

04.01.2022 Little Pied Cormorants are also seen on the coastal rocks and flying along the coast. It will venture inland a little and they are often seen showing a keen interest in The Cape wetlands. Photo David Hartney

03.01.2022 We live on a beautiful section of the coast at Cape Paterson in South Gippsland, and the Cape team and our residents are working with experts and to restore large sections of habitat, wetlands and waterways on our site to encourage back the bird life that once would have been abundant here before the site was cleared many decades ago for cattle farming. Some of our residents are keenly observing the increasing diversity of birds that live in and visit the Cape, with almost 10...0 bird species having been observed either living or visiting our community and surrounding coast in the past 18 months. including international migratory species. In coming weeks, we will be celebrating our beautiful bird life at the Cape with some nice words and photographs provided by one of our residents, David Hartney. Today we are featuring the beautiful Shy Albatross. A medium to large pelagic bird, the Shy Albatross breeds in Bass Strait and is the most common albatross likely to be seen along our coast. They are noticeable by their graceful gliding low over the water, and arcing/ banking flight with very few active wing beats. It has grey upperwings and the white underwings have black margins. The wingspan is 2-2.5m long. They are listed as vulnerable. See more

03.01.2022 The Little Black Cormorant is an all dark cormorant, smaller than the Great Cormorant and distinguished by the absence of coloured skin on the head and face. More likely to be seen amongst the coastal rocks rather than inland on the wetlands. Photos David Hartney

03.01.2022 If you are interested in learning more about nature and the special plants and animals that live on our section of the coast, you can't go past the Cape Chatter website, which has been painstakingly put together by one of our residents David Hartney. It is a goldmine of information on the wonderful nature here at the Cape. Check it out here: https://capechatter.com

03.01.2022 Dreamy day at the Cape today. We took these photos on our morning walk. Its a lovely time of year with whales cruising past and surfers in their element. Great day to take a breath, walk in nature, then repeat. #coastlife #nature #community

01.01.2022 We have had a huge response to the launch of Stage 4 at the Cape which was released to the public last Monday, with around 50% of lots now sold.
