25.01.2022 Tasmania has Australia’s highest rates of asthma affecting 13.4 per cent of the population with spring being a difficult time due to an increased amount of pollen in the air which may trigger hay fever symptoms, an asthma flare-up or attack. A range of information and resources is available at https://bit.ly/2U4a8KJ Now is a great time to call 1800 ASTHMA to find out ways to manage your symptoms during #pollen season. Asthma Australia’s free 1800 ASTHMA service is staffed... by trained Asthma Educators to provide additional information and support to help empower people with asthma in treating their condition. In addition to managing symptoms, people with asthma and hay fever are being encouraged to use pollen monitoring mobile apps like AirRater to check pollen levels to help prevent unnecessary exposure. 18.01.2022 Do you support clients who smoke through your work? Lets Start a Conversation! Check out this video... It only takes 5 minutes, and is a great reminder of why workers are being encouraged to talk to clients about stopping smoking. Here are suggestions about how to continue the conversation:... 1. Give clear advice on the benefits of being smoke free: This can include having more money, feeling less stressed, breathing better or even requiring less medication. Here is a resource that may help. 2. Offer support: In particular, staff who have long term working relationships with clients are well placed to provide ongoing support and encouragement to someone who wants to stop smoking. 3. Recommend Nicotine Replacement Therapy: There are many options available to choose from (see the NRT card), with most people using more than one type of NRT at the same time. Everyone is different, but there is a dose of NRT that will work to ease cravings and withdrawals symptoms when people are trying to stop smoking. 4. Refer to the Quitline: We know that the best way to quit smoking is to combine counselling support, such as the Quitline with pharmacotherapies, such as NRT. Your support can make a difference. #livehealthy #liveclarence #letsstartaconversation

02.01.2022 STAY WELL WITH ASTHMA THIS SPRING Spring is the season where the weather warms, flowers begin to bloom and theres an overall sense of new beginning in the air. However, for many people in Australia, spring (or the dry season in tropical areas) can be a difficult time. This is particularly so for people with asthma and/or allergies as during spring there is often an increased amount of pollen in the air which may trigger hay fever symptoms or an asthma flare-up or attack. Ast...hma Australia has a new Spring resource collection to help those with Asthma stay ahead of symptoms coming into the season. https://asthma.org.au/about/live-with-asthma/spring-asthma/ Good asthma management year-round is the key to ensuring you are ready for spring. Asthma isnt something you have to deal with on your own. Your doctor and other health professionals can help you get good asthma control, so you can live a full and active life. A written asthma action plan is something developed with a doctor to help provide clear instructions on what to do when experiencing asthma symptoms or during an asthma flare-up. STILL HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT SPRING ASTHMA? Speak to an Asthma Educator today by calling 1800 ASTHMA | 1800 278 462 They operate 9:00 am 5:00 pm Monday to Friday
