25.01.2022 We're very thankful to Sepik meri, Josephine Wahune, and local award-winning filmmaker, Marcus Wong, who have been recording voice-over audio in Tok Pisin for the Global Health Media video: Danger Signs After Birth. #savingslivestogether #SDGChampions #womenslivesmatter

24.01.2022 In 2012 we introduced clean birth kits to VBAs to help prevent infection of mother and baby at the time of birth. The impact of such a small bag of items has been amazing - the community has reported that they are seeing fewer infections and they relate this to the use of the kits. Since 2018 KIT International have been supplying the kits to PNG for us, distributed through Angoram District Health Centre. Our latest development is that Winnie Sagiu, WaSH Coordinator for ESPHA has stepped up to take on the role of distributing the clean birth kits throughout ESP, especially to the remote Health Centres. We're so thankful for partnerships with government Health services and look forward to evaluating this life saving initiative. THANKS Winnie!

Thank you to the husband/fathers for their support. Breast-milk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses To date, the transmission of active COVID-19 (virus that can cause infection) through breast-milk and breastfeeding has not been detected. https://www.unicef.org//breastfeeding-safely-during-covid- https://www.who.int/health-topics/breastfeeding "

18.01.2022 We are so proud of Tase Julie Baleu for being awarded a grant from Anglican Deaconess Ministries [ADM] for her pitch for funding last week at a zoom event attended by over 100 women from all over Australia. The funding will support Julie to gain a certificate in training and assessment, and then be able to translate and prepare some training materials about reproductive and sexual health for men in PNG. 08.01.2022 After several years of training VBAs, some local rural CHWs and nursing officers started attending and asking for training. In 2016 we conducted the first program to upskill 6 health staff from 3 different remote Health Centres. Then In 2017 we held the first 1 week upskilling course for health centre staff at Angoram District Hospital. Staff told us they'd not had any professional development since completing their certificates many years before. The 6 staff from the training in 2016 shared many stories with the others of implementing the skills they'd learned in 2016 and saving lives of mothers and babies. Living Child continues to provide training to health staff, strengthening the rural health services in ESP #savingmothersandbabies #SHNF #sendhopenotflowers

04.01.2022 It is with heavy hearts that we let our PNG friends know of the passing of John Bolton, pioneer Church of Christ missionary in the Keram River, Angoram District, East Sepik Province. John died peacefully in Mandurah, Western Australia. Many of our friends knew and loved John and his wife Joyce who lived in Bunam for several years during the 1960-70s building the Bethesda Hausik and the airstrip which is still being used today and regarded as one of the best rural strips in ESP. John was so highly respected that he was nominated to represent the remote peoples during the transition to Independence in 1975. May you rest in eternal peace John Bolton

03.01.2022 Breastfeed your baby within the first hour of birth. Only give breastmilk for the first 6 months. Keep breastfeeding for up to 2 years.... Breastfeeding mothers need support to give their babies a healthy start in life.

03.01.2022 From the start Living Child has listened to the people living in the remote areas. Men and women have been given an opportunity to tell us about the issues they face and their suggested solutions. We've responded by partnering and supporting their vision for better health for their people. Their first request was to train their VBAs as there were no services in the area and the second was to provide access to spasim pikinini (family planning methods). Trust and respect between Living Child and the remote communities has developed out of this partnership
