22.01.2022 The student's at LPS have been busy bee's in Week 8. Their minds are always "buzzing" to learn!

22.01.2022 Over the holidays, it is imperative that your child continues reading a variety of texts. This could include picture books, novels, newspapers and poetry. A great way to keep track of their reading is to keep a holiday reading log, like this example. This will be great to show your child their reading achievements, and their 2021 teacher would love to learn more about their reading interests on their return to school. Writing about reading is important as it assists with reading comprehension, so using a reflective reading template like the example below would also be a great holiday activity.

20.01.2022 Week 7 has been another jam packed week of learning. Check out what our amazing LPS students have learnt this week!

20.01.2022 Last week, the Year 3 students explored the use of energy at LPS. We brainstormed different ways that we could save energy at our school. We then made posters (which are part of a competition) on our iPads, which could be displayed around the school to remind people to switch off lights, fans and appliances when they are not being used, not to leave TVs on standby and to set air conditioners at the appropriate energy saving temperatures for summer and winter. We learnt that e...lectricity and natural gas are the most used energy sources in homes and that air conditioning and heating use the most energy. It is important to reduce our energy use so that carbon emissions into the environment are limited. Our planet will be healthier and we will use less of our natural resources if we reduce our energy use. Written by Jayden and Nicole from Year 3

14.01.2022 In their science inquiry unit, Year 5 and 6 students are exploring the optimal conditions for growing plants. Students have used their maths and science skills and knowledge to decide on the container, location, watering schedule, soil and fertiliser that they will use to grow a plant, and have made predictions about how tall their plant will grow over the next 6 weeks. Stay tuned!

14.01.2022 In their science inquiry unit, Year 1 and 2 students have been exploring the external features of dinosaurs and modern animals. Students have been participating in guided investigations exploring animal teeth and skeletons, and have been describing the use of different animal body parts for particular purposes such as flying and walking.

11.01.2022 Dads Group - The Fathering Project Thank you to all of the dads and father figures who have already joined our Dads Group. Research indicates that dads and father figures who are supportive, involved and engaged with their children have a significant impact on their children’s health, academic, social, behavioural and emotional outcomes. To join our Dads Group, click here: https://thefatheringproject.org//livingstone-primary-scho/ We are now also seeking expressions of interest for Dads Group Leaders. We’re looking for organised, experienced leaders who (with the support of The Fathering Project) would be willing to organise events with other dads, father figures and kids throughout 2021. If you would like to find out more about becoming a Dads Group Leader, please view today's Compass post.

08.01.2022 In their social and emotional learning inquiry, Foundation students have been learning all about why they come to school. They know that at school we can learn new things that will help us as we grow up. In this activity, students thought about all of the things that they can do now, and then predicted what they will be able to do when they are in Year 6! Students can't wait to do all the things that their big buddies can do - like reading books, writing stories, drawing dinosaurs, and using their iPads!

02.01.2022 Wattle Happen to the Wattle? Growing Seeds from Space! Our Year 5 STEAM and Green Monitors worked extremely hard to put together an entry into the ‘What’ll Happen to the Wattle’ competition, which sees winning entries participate in a scientific investigation in conjunction with the Australian Space Agency and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). The investigation will compare the growth of wattle seeds in space with seeds on planet Earth. We found out last week that our students’ entry was successful! Congratulations to all involved!
