16.01.2022 Huge News!! This morning, Queensland’s Minster for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef Leeanne Enoch MP just announced that the government will fund 100 new... Indigenous Land and Sea Rangers over the next four years! This commitment effectively doubles the number of rangers funded by the Queensland Government. That means 100 more traditional owners working on country controlling feral animals, 100 more rangers tackling noxious weeds, 100 more rangers managing vegetation to prevent bushfires, 100 more rangers caring for incredibly important cultural sites. Here at Country Needs People, we have been calling for the number of Indigenous rangers to be double for years and its great to see the Annastacia Palaszczuk MP government is listening! A hearty congratulations to every ranger in Queensland and Minister Enoch on this very welcome announcement today! Now we are super keen to see the other parties and politicians follow suit and back this solid increase to Indigenous Rangers. PS Country Needs People is a non-partisan organisation. We think Indigenous rangers are such a success that all sides of politics should back them. We will never tell you who to vote for but when pollies make an announcement like this, we are sure to let you know.

13.01.2022 "Aboriginal community-control is an act of self-determination for our peoples. It is how we exercise greater political agency within the present policy landscap...e. "Currently, and in my view, there is no other way of delivering and governing services, or providing us with a say in policy and programs, that guarantees Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander empowerment and protects our identity and culture for the long term." "There is strong evidence that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled services are better for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, achieve better results and help make sure we get the support we need." 13.01.2022 It’s up to all of us to help prevent domestic and family violence. During Zonta Club of Ipswich Inc's 16 Days of Activism, orange ladies will be appearing aroun...d Ipswich to raise awareness of violence against women. Yesterday I brought an orange lady along to the opening of the 57th Queensland Parliament to raise awareness of this important issue. As Members of Parliament, we work hard to protect women from violence through effective legislation. The Palaszczuk Government is also committed to working with organisations that are combatting this issue head on like the Queensland Police Service and Domestic Violence Action Centre, who have done so much for Ipswich and Queensland.
