16.01.2022 Sitting. You’re probably doing it right now. Many of us spend most of our day sitting as we eat, look at our phones, type at a computer, read a book, watch television, and drive the car. The cumulative effect of sedentary behaviour can lead to muscular imbalances. This is where certain muscles become overly tight and shortened, while others weak and overstretched. These imbalances manifest as poor posture, altered gait and movement patterns, joint dysfunction, injury, pain an...d headache. As a remedial massage therapist, I am trained to identify muscular imbalances and use techniques that loosen overworked muscles, allowing your body to relax into its optimal alignment. If you are concerned about the way you are sitting, standing or moving, please call Northside Health (02) 6652 5322 to make an appointment. #remedialmassage #massagetherapy #therapeutictouch #healthandwellbeing #naturalhealing #naturalpainrelief #relaxation #mentalhealth #selfcare

12.01.2022 Got pain in your lower back, hip and/or butt region? A tight QL (quadratus lumborum) could be the culprit source. Give this stretch a try. Hold for 30-60 seconds. Repeat 2-3 times.... Can you feel a difference?

10.01.2022 The beauty of a qualified massage therapist is when clients present with foot pain, they know which trigger points to hit. In this case, the trigger points are ...located away from the symptom area! If you could benefit from a good massage, give us a call today on 6652 5322 or book via the website https://buff.ly/2HKy8gh See more

08.01.2022 Got back pain? Maybe it’s time to have a look at how and where you sleep. Positioning, mattress firmness, and pillow height are a few factors that may be causing discomfort at night. Given the average person spends one-third of their life lying down in bed, paying attention to body posture is crucial to managing joint pain and muscle soreness. Here is a great visual explaining the best (and worst) sleep positions for back pain.... Do you wake up in the morning feeling tight and sore? For a full assessment call Northside Health (02) 6652 5322. ( @pisapain)

04.01.2022 *FORWARD HEAD POSTURE (FHP)* Consider for a moment the weight of your head. When sitting directly above your shoulders in what is considered the ideal posture, the head is quite heavy at about 4.5kg. That’s roughly the same weight as a number 10 bowling ball! When your head is shifted forward, even by just a few centimeters, extra weight is added to the load your neck and shoulders are already trying to support (see attached pic). Over time, your neck joints become increasi...ngly compressed. Many of your neck muscles tighten up due to continual tension, whilst others weaken due to disuse. The added compressive forces through the neck joints and increased muscle tension often lead to pain. So, what can you do about it? Here are just a few suggestions: Be aware of how you are sitting or standing. Are your ears in line with your shoulders? Or is your chin poking forward? Are your shoulders pulled back? Or are they hunched forward? Try using a lumbar pillow or rolled towel to support your lower back when sitting. It will encourage you to sit-up straight. Change-it-up. Reposition yourself regularly. Get up and move every so often (40-60 mins). Take breaks to stand-up and walk to bathrooms that are further away. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Lift your phone up closer to eye level. Stretch-it-out. Get onto Google or YouTube and you’ll find some great stretches for the following muscles that are often particularly tight. o upper trapezius o levator scapulae o sternocleidomastoid (SCM) o scalenes o pectoralis major o pectoralis minor. Remedial massage can improve FHP and associated pain by lengthening muscles that have become chronically shortened through myofacial release, trigger point, and facilitated stretching techniques. Is your FHP a pain the neck? Make an appointment to see me, Liz, at Northside Health (02) 6652 5322. ( Active Quiroprática)
