25.01.2022 To all our LAA members, families plus extended family members - llamas, donkeys etc. With these terrible and devastating fire activity across our country we hope that you are safe ! Even if you are not in the fire activity zone we hope that you have your fire plan in place just in case. Many lives have been saved when you plan ahead just in case. As we have seen fire can come at any time from any direction - please don't take any chance. Our thoughts are with you. LAA C...ommittee On a personal note my farm is located 25 minutes west from Geelong have some spare paddocks and spare beds for anyone in need.

05.01.2022 I met a lil’ llama in Machu Picchu that actually likes me !...Or at least tolerates me . Did you know that llamas are related to camels? As are alpacas, ...vicuñas, and guanacos - the other camelids found in Peru. We all know that llamas look like an animal that no one can take seriously, but did you know they’re actually super important for the landscape and rural people living in Peru!? Llamas are not only deeply tied to Peruvian culture but they’re far more eco-friendly and sustainable on the landscape than the cattle and horses that were brought over by the Spaniards about 600 years ago. Llamas have soft, small feet and their environmental footprint is less 1/6 of that of cattle. And llamas cut grass when they eat it, allowing it to grow back readily, compared to other large domestics that pull out the grass’s roots too. Llama Pack Project is doing amazing & important work to help Peruvians living in the Andes to reintegrate llamas into their culture & lifestyle and also breed them to be bigger (ideally 300+ lbs) and more capable of carrying heavier loads ! Who would’ve thought that llamas could save the environment!? Check out the season 1 finale of #EvanGoesWild on Animal Planet Sunday night at 9p E/P to learn all about Peru’s ridiculous mountain camels ! #peru #machupicchu #sacredvalley #llama #imadeallamafren # #
04.01.2022 The Queensland Branch visited a valued friend and long term member, Peter Fogg yesterday at his residential nursing home. If Pete can’t come to us then we’ll go to him. Maybe there’ll be a llama with us next time Peter!
