22.01.2022 HE FLANDERS WEED by Derrick Sole We stand tall, even the little ones who are small, proud of all who paid the price, we stand to thank them for their sacrifice, a red flower we wear on our chest, ... a sign of thanks to those now at rest. In Flanders on the war torn land, nature had not given up and made a stand, a weed with a flower of vivid red, reminding many of the blood that had been shed. It grew upon the ravaged land, churned buy war, and the explosions of man, amongst the fallen and the dead, this weed grew blossoming with a flower of vivid red. Man killed man in his insanity, nature somehow showed no complicity, in the landscape of holes and mounds, the Flanders weed grew all around, a vision of red so bright it is said. In a land now stripped by war, only the dead grew, daily there was always more, nature gave up the land, stripped of its beauty it could not make a stand, yet a weed began to grow, inhospitable though the land, the weed still did show. The poppy family It does belong, in the fields of Flanders it brightly shone, around the graves it began to grow, honouring those who laid below, has the land began to warm, the Flanders weed began to swarm. Now proudly in memory we wear, an effigy, of this weed in brilliant red, which in Flanders on the battle fields, did grow everywhere, for the blood that flowed of those now dead, we wear with pride, the poppy red. The eleventh hour, of the eleventh day in the month of November, we stand to say, thank you all who paid the price, in far of lands and shores nearby, with banners and flags and the Union Jack, we stand in silence, for those who never came back. They did as the government asked, to fight and stand to the very last, like all the wars known to man, to stay alive you do the best you can, rules are for fools and wise men a guide, not for the politicians and lawyers, behind to hide. As a nation under the Union Jack, we stand in celebration, of those who serve, and those who never came back, those who the fight has never left, proudly a red poppy up on our chest.. Derrick Sole 2016

17.01.2022 What is the source of this quote? "And those who were seen dancing were thought insane by those who could not hear the music." It often attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche, but there is little evidence to support this.... Nietzsche was a German philosopher, essayist, and cultural critic. His writings include those on on truth, morality, language, aesthetics and cultural theory.

16.01.2022 Lunch with James Brown by Mark Dapin Former cavalry officer James Brown, a veteran of Australias inconclusive campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, sees the country heading towards another messy war in an atmosphere of open public discussion and informed national debate.
