19.01.2022 18 years ago today, a beautiful baby boy was born. That baby was named Luke Batty. Sadly little Luke never reached adulthood. He was murdered in Tyabb in Victo...ria on February 12, 2014. He was just 11 years old. Luke - and his mum Rosie - were subjected to ongoing domestic violence. Rosie did everything she could to protect herself and her son from his violent father. After Luke was killed, Rosie bravely fronted Australia's media. Her extremely honest account of abuse forced our country to assess its public and private conversations about - and responses to - domestic and family violence. When Luke was laid to rest, Rosie could have retreated into her own grief. But she didn’t. Instead, this brave woman stepped into the limelight in the hopes of making our country a safer place- all she wanted to do was end domestic violence. Sadly, she was relentlessly trolled, abused and threatened by people who disagree that violence is primarily a gendered problem. She was repeatedly blamed for Luke's murder. She was labelled a thief and a fraud by very high profile Australians who spread lies about the foundation she set up in her son's name. Rosie recently withdrew from her public role, the toll of fighting to end domestic violence and the vile abuse clearly having an impact on her. Today, she will celebrate her boy's 18th birthday, but there will be no presents, birthday cake or party for her young lad. There is no doubt that Luke's murder and Rosie's advocacy changed much of the public conversation on violence in Australia but her son should not be dead. One man held Luke’s life in his hands and that man had full control over his decision to kill. There is no beauty in murder, but sometimes violence inspires beautiful moments and movements - Rosie and Luke’s legacy is a perfect example of this. Today, on Luke’s 18th birthday, let’s remember the good that followed the bad. And let’s all share a thought and a few kind words for Rosie, whose dedication, passion, humour and compassion gave Aussie women and children reason to believe that the thugs who subject them to physical, emotional, sexual and financial torment can, and will, be held to account. Very few will forge a legacy like Rosie’s and Luke’s. RIP LUKE BATTY & THANK YOU ROSIE! See more

04.01.2022 In this time of self-isolation, working from home and staying safe, we know that for some people, home is not always the safest place. We are hearing of many instances of an increase in domestic and family abuse and want to assure anyone affected that support services are still available in your community. NSW DV Line 1800 656463
