24.01.2022 #100LOCALPHOTOS #DAY22 - No beach images today for a change - instead, here's one of our beautiful parks. This is from photographer Jonathan Cami of the gardener's cottage at Neilson Park. Jonathan, a fantastic local photographer with a lot of credits, tells us he has been shooting the East over the past few weeks with his kids in tow as they get out for their daily exercise to ward of isolation madness. 24.01.2022 Opened ... and closed again. Randwick Council has closed its beaches for the weekend except between 6am-9am for exercise after "people failed to use beaches for exercise only". The decision was made at 1pm today, apparently after people were lying on the sand. Friends who went to Maroubra this week said rangers were having to force people off the beach for building sandcastles and sunbathing. In a statement the Council said: "Randwick City Council closed all beaches, includin...g Clovelly, Coogee and Maroubra, at 1pm this afternoon after people failed to use beaches for exercise only. Coogee, Clovelly and Maroubra beaches will be re-opened on Saturday 25 April and Sunday 26 April 2020 from 6am to 9am only. They will be available for exercise only. Council will reassess the situation on Monday 27 April. All other unpatrolled beaches in Randwick City will remain closed until further notice. These beaches include Gordon’s Bay, Malabar beach, Little Bay beach, Frenchmans beach, Yarra Bay and Congwong beach. This is Coogee's Wylie's Baths, one of our absolute favourite swimming spots, and a much-missed resource at the moment. Thanks to @placesweswim for this image and the story that we ran last year (follow the link online to read the full piece): "To avoid pumping and filtering, the pool was deliberatel...y carved below the high-tide line, the swallowing of the pool by the sea flushing it twice daily. This natural filtration system means the shallow sea floor is home to resident fish, a reclusive octopus, and enough sea urchins to merit packing a set of tweezers with your togs." Did you know that to be a member of Icebergs you have to compete virtually every weekend? This is one of the very rare years when the rules will be broken and members won't have to attend every week, even through winter, to retain membership. This beautiful wall of books extends all the way to a soaring ceiling and the effect of being in the room with so much colour is absolutely mesmerising. There's something magical about its emerald water, the way the sun shimmers on the ripples, how the foliage meets the water's edge.
