21.01.2022 Following the advice of our affiliated organisation Australian Sailing the Boat Club will be postponing any advertised events at the club rooms until further notice. Members of the club who have a door token may use the building but please place all your used cutlery crockery and glasses in the dishwasher to be washed. The club has obtained disposable cups for tea and coffee and we would prefer you use these. Some members will continue to visit the club rooms on Saturday and Wednesday mornings and other times. Boating is a great way to practice social distancing so get out on the water and enjoy

15.01.2022 Today the Boat Club launched our new Weather web site https://www.loch-sport.net/weather-cam, powered by our new Davis weather station which we were able to pur...chase with a grant from the Wellington Shire Council. The new site offers a wealth of information compared to our old site, is responsive, and has a clean modern look. Below the high-resolution panoramic picture, which we upgraded earlier in the year, you will find a summary of the current conditions. Beside the summary is a Windy animation showing the wind conditions around us. Below this is a 7-day forecast, followed by record conditions observed for today, yesterday, and the month. For the finer detail, there are graphs showing how the conditions are progressing throughout the day. A unique feature of the new site is that it shows real-time information from the weather station, so you will see the wind and other parameters change every couple of seconds. Further graphs, reports, and record information are available by following links on the page. We hope you like the new site, let us know what you think or if you find anything that is not working as it should. Explore and enjoy!

10.01.2022 SOME GUIDELINES FROM DHS as at May 11 Can I use sports club facilities? You can use toilet facilities connected to a permitted sport location. However, clubhouses, bars, eating areas, indoor sitting areas, showers and change facilities must remain closed. You should not drink from public drinking fountains. Bars and restaurants can only remain open if it offers takeaway or delivery services no sit-down meals or drinks are permitted.... Can I go boating? Under the new directions, recreational boating is now permissible. Physical distancing and mass gathering rules apply at all times including at the boat ramp and on your boat. As always though, Victorians are being asked to be considered and use common sense when it comes their activities. You should only leave home if you really need to. We are all being asked to make sacrifices in order to save lives. Can I get out on the water in my boat with a mate? Its a small boat. Do we need to be physically distant? Under the new directions, you can go out boating. But you must maintain 1.5 metres between yourself and others. If you are doing these activities in a group there should be no more than 10 people. Can I use the public barbecue facilities in my park, with less than 10 people? You should not use a public barbecue, just as you should not use a public drinking fountain. These facilities represent a risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission because of the numbers of people using them, the inability to control access and the lack of regular cleaning and disinfection. Your outdoor sport or exercise activity can be part of a club, but you cannot use club facilities, except toilets. If your sport has a team that is more than ten people, the whole team cannot play or train together at one time. Use of shared sporting equipment should be minimised and there should be no sharing of equipment that touches the face or head (e.g. helmets, goggles or masks). If the activity involves shared equipment, only equipment with smooth, hard surfaces should be available for use and the equipment should be sanitised between users. Equipment with hard and smooth surfaces are easy to disinfect by wiping between uses. However, some sporting equipment can still be shared such as balls or mats. There is a preference for people to use their own equipment wherever possible. Equipment available for loan or hire to different individuals or groups should be limited to equipment that can be effectively sanitised between users. If your household is greater than 10 people, you can practice your sport/recreation activity with your household. The club rooms can be set up to suit the activity looking forward to hosting your event.

06.01.2022 Practice Kayak skills a note from Marine Safety Victoria With an increase in paddler rescues,, we encourage all paddlers to practise getting back on board. This can be particularly hard in deep water where you need strength, technique and equipment to assist you. East Coast Kayaking, Sandringham Melbourne has put together a short clip of a variety of paddle craft demonstrating how their instructors get back on board. Make sure you practise or consider attending a specialised course. The importance of learning to get back on: https://transportsafety.vic.gov.au/.../prepare/onboard

03.01.2022 Tow, tow, tow your boat Safely back to shore! There isn’t much our Fisheries Officers can’t do, as our Phillip Island crew showed recently. Our officers we...re out on patrol on a Sunday afternoon when they were called into action to help a pair of locals in their boat. Father and son pair Mark and Carlos found themselves in trouble near Cape Woolamai with damage to their motor. Needing a bit of help, they saw our officers cruising past on patrol and flagged them down. Our team were happy to lend a hand and had all the right gear aboard. They towed Mark and Carlos back to the Newhaven boat ramp - in a socially distanced fashion of course! Mark then got in touch with us via email to say he was extremely grateful for their help. While we were distressed they offered us assurance and help when we really needed it, he said. Helping out in emergencies like this is just one of the reasons we’re investing some of your fishing licence fees into more fisheries officers out on the water. #fisheriesofficeratwork #yourfishinglicencefeesatwork #fishingvictoria
